Have any overly-religious people blamed it on God's judgement yet?

In all seriousness, this is terrible, I'm glad that structural intergrity and improved medical infrastructure in Chile means deaths have been reduced (compared to, say, Haiti) but I worry about the prospect of a tsunami hitting the region.

All the small-minded personification of nature here is pretty disgusting.

This is pretty bad, not to mention Japan already got hit by the tsunami, although it was sufficiently weakened to only flood ports. That being said though, Japan suffered a 6.8 quake two days ago, poor buggers.

I do not care at all. I can honestly say that a NATURAL HAPPENING that is unpredictable and unavoidable and doesn't affect me has no place in my mind. Those guys chose to live on an island. If they get hit by a tsunami it is their own fault. I knew the dangers of tornadoes in the Midwest, and we never begged for the red cross to come help us when our town was thrashed by a twister. Grow some balls and accept that life happens instead of expecting nothing bad will ever happen and calling for sympathy and asking them to throw money at you.

With that being said, I live in Anchorage, Alaska right now. We get earthquakes all the time. There was a volcano really close that erupted this winter? where everybody was warned to wear those little masks because of the ash that turned the snow black. And tsunamis are definitely a danger living here on the coast. So I don't care about any 'natural disaster' that happens thousand of miles away. Nut up or shut up, damn Hawaiians living on an island bitching about getting tsunamied.

Silly logic to be honest.

Maybe they live there because they were born there, not because they chose it. Maybe they don't have money to leave. I certainly don't have money to live anywhere else apart from where I do now, if a natural disaster hit my city I would just have to grin and bear it because I'm poor. Not everyone is a rich kid with unlimited credit and the ability to travel wherever they want on a whim.

hahaha, sucks to be in Hawaii. Oh, and they've got proper warning, so I'm not gonna feel bad when they get hit (not that I would anyway).
Harsh. And uncalled for.
not entirley, kinda like the new orleans crap awhile back, they had an ample warning to get the hell out and they didnt, then everyone bitched about how bad it was after the hurricane hit.
The fact that he said 'not that I would anyway' disregards any care with or without a warning. makes it pretty ruthless.

And seriously, such levels of death and destruction is always going to be a tragedy. Sure, they can get a warning, but take New Orleans for example... you think that it's easy to evacuate an entire fucking city? What about those that can't afford it? Not to mention they still lose their homes.
I didnt say it was easy to evacuate an entire city, let alone an entire island, Now, lets not get into an argument, You tryed to call out somone over the internet, turns out they had an allie, its my opinion. And geuss what, everyone on this site has the right to opinionate on what ever the hell they want.

As for new orlens, Did the people in the city not have days if not weeks they were warned that the levi's could not and would not hold back the surge of water from the ocean, I DO NOT feel bad for them, sure they would have left stuff behind if they legged it, but they wouldnt have been in the center of the storm now would they? and they would have lost their stuff anyways. Get off your high horse please.
I feel sorry for the dead and the homeless. Showing empathy is not being 'on a high horse'.
No it isn't, But implying you're better than somone because you have a different view on something is.

And From the probation you just got, It looks like you enjoy running off at the mouth When you should stop. This would be another time when you should just stop.

That's terrible... Ya know, I'm tired of all this. Not in an "an hero" kinda way, but I think Space travel should be a bigger focus for humanity. XD I wanna go elsewhere, and experience new stuff. Earthquakes, Wars, Politicians, I'm sick of it all... Anyone wanna build Rapture? =P

Ok Mother Nature, we get it, you're having a bad time right now. Do us all a favor and go get laid, maybe you'll feel better afterward. And I'm going to input my whole 2 cents on the Katrina thing. They had almost 2 weeks to evacuate, they just took their sweet ass time getting out. I DO pity the homeless, cause they had no real way of leaving, but everyone else had time. And now because of this, a earthquake is going to rip through my house tonight...speak of which we had one here around the 12th of February. I slept through it but they say it was a 4.8

I'm not implying anything. It's even not like my view is particularly alternative. I have respect for the dead any empathy for those who have lost something; and i bet you'll find many who feel the same way. I'm not better than anyone else for my view.

Sorry to tell you but... Everyone has the ability to go somewhere else. Even on an island you can catch a ride with someone or make a raft. If you're not on an island you can simply walk or catch a free ride on the highway.

Making a raft probably isn't the best tsunami-avoidance strategy I've ever heard...
