...& so the gulf between those who get the internet & those who dont expands a little winder. Shame its those that dont who seem to have the power to turn it off :-(
See my thread on the source of perpetuating world problems. It's the age gap between the governments and their youngest (And future.) citizens.

As for Australia, U.S., and Europe, one remains fairly certain that it is about pictures of semi-attractive women doing horrible things to various mammals.

China however has problems with people trying to learn about the Tiananmen Square incident and the age of their Olympic gymnasts to the point that Google China is not allowed to show hits to sites on these topics.

So, yeah, I'm inclined to think it is more thought control than moral preservation.

The BBC article also says that they want to get rid of porn. My reaction to that: NOOOO!!!!!!!!

But seriously, governments are becoming more like 'The Party' in 1984. We discussed this in our History class, saying that security cameras and the like aren't really for saftey, they're to keep an eye on us.
first of all... NOOOOOOOOOOOO AHHH GOD! PLEASE NOT THE INSUFFERABLE PAIN!!!

now that thats gone,

China's system is already like Orwell's 1984, if u break down the different powers / sections of the CPC there already is divisions set aside for spying on people. i think its like neighborhood watch... but that may be wrong (no, its not like the vigilante group in the US)

Oh, China, you make me laugh. What next? Are you going to try and stop all the freaking HUMAN TRAFFICKING? Ranks a bit higher than Google on my list.

There is a fine line between Neighbourhood Watch and being a vigilante, and it's a line that you cross when you buy a cape...
Our school is like a freaking dictatorship. First there's the god-awful vertical tutoring where all students are mixed up in a feeble attempt to get us all to like each other; then there's the propaganda theatre known as 'Royds Hall TV' (you can find it on YouTube, for some strange reason). Even worse, we're forced to do charity work.

If it was even possible I would like to see them try
I would love to see Hacking Community (basically every hacker in existance) vs a Government. That would almost be beautiful. Not to mention that many people who AREN'T hackers would want google back, and I can totally imagine people risking their lives to protect hackers to bring back the internet.

What people need to realize is that porn is the mold of the world. Even if you wipe the world 'clean', mold will be the first thing to grow back; and unless you keep a constant eye throughout the ENTIRE globe, you're going to have some mold. And then of course there are the objects you can't get mold off of, or the objects that have only a little so it only affects those who are seriously allergic (porn haters I guess in this analogy).

Note: I never said I am for/against porn. :D
