Chinese Parents Sell Kids To Fund Gaming Habits

No, you read that right.

Just when you thought stories of <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.288761-Teen-Sells-Kidney-for-iPad-2?page=1>stupid people doing incredibly stupid things for technology couldn't get any more insane, China has produced another winner: Two young parents were recently revealed as having sold all three (three!) of their children so they could play online videogames at internet cafes.

According to Sanxiang City News, the parents are Li Lin and Li Juan and are both under the age of 21. The first sale occurred in 2009, when they sold their second child, a baby girl. The girl went for under $500, but their first child (this time a boy) was sold soon after for $4,600. Then, the couple sold their youngest child, also a boy, for another $4,600.

It wasn't until Li Juan's mother found out what was going on that she wound up reporting the two young people to the authorities. The couple is apparently claiming they didn't know what they were doing was illegal. Not only that, but when they were asked if they missed their children, this was their response:

"We don't want to raise them, we just want to sell them for some money," they said.

Stating that you didn't know it was illegal to sell your child is pretty ludicrous. If Li Lin and Li Juan aren't sure about whether they're completely worthless human beings, I'll be happy to give them the answer.

What? That's all I can really say to this story is "what?" with a giant facepalm on the side.

A slightly related question, though: where do you even sell a child? I'm guessing to like sex trafficers or something. If that is the case then this is even more horrifying.

Of course some will see this and claim that video games caused them to sell their children. No. These are worthless and horrible human beings who happen to play video games. I'm sure I've been ninja'd by now.

^What he said a thousand times over. I mean, if they were addicted to drugs instead of video games they would have sold their children anyways.
But anyways, stuff like this makes me stop and wonder about how crazy and/or stupid people will be at times.
I feel bad about what has/will happen to the children though.

Ugh, really? People can really be this horrible? At what point does any of that seem like a good idea?
I don't even have much of a reaction to that, that's just so much stupid, it's hard to handle. Worthless human beings doesn't even begin to cut it.

Yeah this doesnt add up. First off people locally claiming that theres no mention of this locally yet the government would LOVE a story like this because it would give them more creedence to take more liberties.

Secondly. Who would buy a kid in China with their strict population laws. Its not like your going to be able to hide a child your raising from government officials forever. There is something fishy here about this story.

Can we see an actual source on this?

So, basically, they thought they were a breeding/adoption agency of people? That's pretty messed up.

that is really disturbing. to think that you could be born into a family and then sold so that your parents could get more time on WOW and SC2. i can only shake my head in shame that the human race is able to do such idiotic things.

(9 months + racing, feeding et.c) * 3 and all you got out of it was ~$10K, feels like they got ripped off.

Still. Gotta love the excuse,"Selling children is illegal? I would never have guessed!"

Hmmm...why didn't I think of that?!?!? J/K of course you know how much it costs to give birth?? More then what they sold their kids combined. Hardly worth it. The saddest part is that the game they sold them for is probably something like FarmVille...O.O

Peasants who can, for whatever reason, not produce their own children will purchase children to raise via the black market. If you're clever, you can sell the child to white parents looking for adoption.

Still considering locals are refuting this on the ABC source link, perhaps an actual source material of this would be in order.

It was probably to an 'adoption' agency of some sort. There's actually quite a market for kids among 30 somthing yuppies who want to prove how "progressive" they are by adopting kids from 3rd world countries (I blame Angelina Jolie), though oddly enough there aren't a lot of people jumping on adopting kids from the horn of Africa or places where things are truly horrifying for kids. I guess the starving Somali kid doesn't come pre-programed with the ability to play piano or solve math problems or whatever the logic is behind wanting to adopt a Asian kid.

Perhaps I'm simply being naive and overly sensitive, but that just seems so absolutely horrid and wrong.

Wait a minute, they sell 3 children and they can't afford a gaming PC with a decent internet connection. Fucking waste of time.
