I would like to remind audiences that not all Asians are like that. There's not much else to say other than that.

Oh, yeah! I thought there was a single child policy, but whatever.

If they like videogames that much, I have a good punishment for them:

Stay in prison until they beat I Wanna Be the Guy on Impossible!

This is perfect, actually, but I would add one stipulation:

They only get one try per hour, and if they do succeed they don't get bragging rights.

At least it was a better option than what that lady from the Casey Anthony trial did.

Come to think of it, I don't think anyone would pay tons of money just to illegally adopt a child, so nevermind.

Err..No? Taking an extreme case and generalizing it across an entire demographic is generally a poor way of analyzing things. Besides, I don't think the value of human attachment is one of those things that scales with population. I don't think people today treat their friends and family 5x worse than someone from 1950, simply because the population of the world is 5x larger now than in 1950.

Wait, what were they sold to?
Yakuza or another gang likely. Don't know about the boys so much, but once she grows up, the girls probably got a bright future in underage prostitution ahead of her now.

Really? I was thinking more along the lines of sweatshops or factories. Fits the whole "slaves to capitalism" feel of the whole thing to a T. That said, this is China we're talking about. I wouldn't be surprised about either of those, though the Yazuka I'm pretty sure is a Japan-only thing. Probably a Chinese-equivalent syndicate, though.
The Tryad? or something like that :p

This is absolutely disgusting! It's the twenty-first century! That a nation on the fast track to industrialization, after decades of economic and social progress, can permit this to happen is just mind blowing. China is supposed to be an up-and-coming superpower, not some backwards country limping on after the fall of it's last great dynasty. I intend to find out who I need to contact to pressure the Chinese government in making sure that never again will a little girl suffer through such an ordeal, that no little boy's head shall be weighed down with the weight of the injustice that he knows to has been inflicted. How can such a country hope to regard itself as modern when the going price for a male child is three hundred sixty percent higher than a female? Or a female worth less than twenty-two percent of her male counterpart; non-traditional gender roles are no excuse for such staggering and regressive discrimination! I can only hope that nobody should ever suffer through such an experience ever again, that it has happened this once is more than enough for a generation to bear!

Together, my brothers, sisters, friends and companions, we have the power to see to it that this never happens again in a hundred years!

You serious? Because I'm pretty sure that the Chinese government isn't exactly endorsing this. Actually, never mind that.

There's plenty of possibilities why they could be exempt from the One Child Policy. First of all, it applies only to Han Chinese, not to minorities. Also exempt are farmers and the like, who "need" more children to survive. Who knows? We're only here for the shock news, not the finer details.

At least absurd things break up the monotomy of my day.

One can only hope that they get a few decades in jail.

This is absolutely rediculous. Those people got completely gipped on the price of the kids. The should have gotten at least $10k for the kids easily, do they know how much Americans will spend for a tiny Chinese baby? /sarcasm

What the hell is wrong with people? If having one kid seemed like a mistake and you didn't feel like raising it, why shit out two more kids if you aren't commited to being a parent? I can only hope that those kids were sold to good families and not some sort of slave ring or organ salesman. Although considering what kind of parents they are, maybe slavery would actually be a happy alternative.

Here's hoping the Chinese government has a neutering policy for situations like this.

Sweet merciful heaven, I feel sick. Those poor children. What the hell is wrong with some people?!

Ugh, it's news like this that gives video games a bad name. I just can't imagine selling off my own kids just to play a GODDAMN GAME!

And of course, this is only the case that we KNOW about. How many other unscrupulous young couples have been able to get away with it for similarly unbelievable reasons?

My response to this really depends on who they were sold to, if it was just like a shady under the counter selling so they could be raised to do labor or so they could have their organs harvested than I think these people are completely fucked up and deserve to go to jail for a VERY long time.

However, if it were to say family that can't have children of their own (wether it be that they are gay or impotent or whatever) then I might be a little more understanding, I mean was it like adoption but the parents get paid to ensure the kid thats going isn't completely fucked up psychologically or physically? unlikely since I believe they have child adoption agencies for people in china who are qualifed to be actual parents, and I can't see why the boys would go for so much more than the girl in that case, but I don't want to jump to conclusions with my infinite amount of spite.
(my Captcha was a simple, step back, heh)

Not that I'm defending them in any way, but I could have sworn it was legal to sell your children in China.

Unless I misread something I read a while back about how adoption works over there...
