Choo! Choo! All aboard the hype train!

Well, the title should be obvious enough. But I'm just so gosh darn nice I'll explain it. What's anything that someone got you hyped up for... and then it didn't turn out as good as planned? Another part is, it can be any aspect. Example: People said Game of Thrones was dark, but when I watched it, I didn't find it all that dark.

Now onto mine. My biggest one is Toradora . A somewhat popular anime based of a light novel of the same name. The first thing I heard was the show was funny, the romance was good, and the feels were high. The comedy was great as was the romance. As it actually takes quite a while for it to begin. But the feels were such an overhype. I'd seen this anime, especially the Christmas episode in several peoples top ten sad moments in anime. I was expecting a lot. To bad I viewed the character I was meant to feel pity for, a self pitying crybaby who needs to grow up and face something called reality. She's a rich girl with Daddy issues, I feel no pity for someone like that. I feel pity for the MC who has his mom pretty much sell her body at a host bar to make ends meet. The only time I felt any kind of feel was when the MC and his mother got into an argument. So the feels were massively over hyped.

So, what's your guy's experiences with over hype?

Back in the day Naruto was hyped up by some of my classmates as the coolest thing ever. They've since come to their senses.

I wasn't really impressed by it but whatever. My tastes vary.

These days I usually don't let hype get me, well, hyper. There is one train I'm a proud member of however.

I'm a proud Star Citizen and I have faith in CIG to make the space sim I've been waiting over a decade for!

Stand outs are Minori, who starts out lovably eccentric and later becomes a horrible selfish ***** who revels in her loneliness. Ami is probably the best, starting out as the "competition" to Taiga and later becoming Takasu's guide to helping him resolve his relationship at the cost of her own happiness.

As for my jumping onto the hype wagon, I'd have to say it was the little while I got to play Titanfall for about a day or two. I liked the gameplay, but the game seemed like a project EA threw overboard without a life preserver before it was ready and watched to see if it sank or swam. It was hard for me to get invested in a game where evidence of a rushed development was around each corner I turned.

It's a good game, and I'm sure it'll be an excellent game a year from now after it's been patched and had more content added to it. But that's if there are enough people around after a year.

Everyone hypes The Exorcist as such a scary movie, but it bores me to tears. I couldn't stand it when I first saw it 15 years ago, and yet, I decided to give it another go last September. There were about 20 minutes left in the movie when I had to turn it off because I couldn't take any more of that snore-fest.

Could you please give me some examples of Minori's change. All I saw was a friend who gave up her own happiness so her friend could be happy. I mean sure, she did become a total ***** when Taiga's dad came to town. Which she could of easily explained, rather than getting mad at Ryuji. But other than that I'm coming up blank.

I do agree with the characters though. Yuyuko Takemiya is an amazing writer and her work. Unlike most writers in the anime, manga, LN, VN business, she actually can write good and interesting female characters.

The Evangelion thing... I just got bored halfway through. Maybe I'll pick it up at some point but I wasn't really invested in the series by then.

it is ones own choice to go on the hype train in the end...

for me it was the Glitch Mobs second album, their first one I loved but "Love Death and Imortality"...it wasnt bad but it just felt like generic trailer music fodder rather than the unique uplifiting sound of "Drink the Sea"

I also bought Titanfall knowing what it would be like but I was bored and thourght "I don't know...mabye this will be the one that surprises me" I can't say I was disapointed or impressed....well disapointed with myself for being so dumb

I was beyond hyped for The Raid 2: Berandal but that was more to do with my own expectations. From the trailers I filled in the blanks and expected a masterfully executed crime epic with martial arts. Note, masterfully executed. It's an excellent movie but it can't live up to what's in my head. Didn't ruin it for me but it did somewhat diminish my enjoyment of it.

Steven Moffat taking the reins of Doctor Who is the one that stands out for me right now.

I think I was just expecting too much.
The Matt Smith era has some fantastic episodes, some of the best of Who and he's a great Doctor which some wonderful companions but when the writing is bad, it's really bad.
The River Song/Clara story lines just weren't my cup of tea and I wasn't very satisfied with the resolution of the arse-crack in time and space.

Still, I'm hopeful for Peter Capaldi, I think my expectations are a lot more realistic this time around though.

The second Hobbit film.
I really liked the first and the Lord of the Rings trilogy and all the books and the 2002 game and everything but the film was beyond crap, I really hated it and can't even be motivated to see it again!

I wasn't particularly hyped for Frozen, but the endless love it's received ever since it hit theaters gave the impression it was at least a very solid Disney movie.

I saw it on blu-ray last week, and I can't say I cared much for it. I can see it has some good ideas, but it just doesn't execute any of them very well. The idea behind the song 'Let it Go' is great, but it's sung in such a poppy manner that it felt like I was watching Glee or a Katy Perry music video.

None of the songs for that matter were any good, and the way they were incorperated in certain scenes was very odd. When Elsa and her sister meet again in the ice castle, there's this emotional exchange through song that has no real melody or structure to it. They just sing for the sake of singing, and it comes of really forced. When you get to the rock trolls there's some funny, wacky (yet equally forced) song about Christof getting hitched, which gets punctuated with the near death of a character.

The animation wasn't even that well done, with even certain moments of woodenness, especially regarding the horses. And a lot of the environments felt overly empty.

The characters themselves had little to no chemistry with one another. I didn't feel any sort of sisterly love between Elsa and her sister, because we hardly get to see them together. And due to "the twist" Christof had no purpose in this story at all other than to serve as a red herring of sorts. We also have two useless funny characters, so that the 2-year olds in the audience have something to look at. And the 'villain reveal' twist also felt like it was there just for the sake of it. The fact that I already figured it out beforehand didn't help much either.

Maybe it's the fact that this movie didn't have the combined might of Glen Keane and Alan Menkin, but it fell short for me on almost every level.

The last three big ones for me were SSB Brawl, Star Craft 2 & Avatar.

I loved SSB Melee, played it with friends for 8 YEARS! I saw the teaser for Brawl and my mind was blown already, except Zamus annoyed me. For 2 years and a half I was on the hype train, waiting half patiently, without spoiling it for myself (cause I used to trust Nintendo), only to find out the movement is clunky and they cut out some of my favourite strategy moves, the smash ball abilities were completely unbalanced, you could hardly combo, Fucking Random Tripping, and just about every thing else was clumsily put together or just plain stupid.

Star Craft 2 is officially the last game I pre-ordered (don't have a go at me, Blizzard used to be amazing) but I cancelled it because Brawl taught me I should check just incase, and I really dodged a bullet. I still can't believe how terrible the dialogue and story is, I am still amazed they used the shitty excuse of making a better story by limiting each race campaign to one expansion, I'm still baffled that they thought it would be a good idea to base the game around masterful strategies from the original, and there online thing it started off with. I have no problem calling them terrible now, in fact I don't even refer to them as Blizzard, more Blizzaro, the anti quality. I played it at an internet cafe' in case you're wondering.

And Avatar the movie, which I actually liked. But the hype for it was absolutely ridiculous. I had retards telling me that the 3D technology was new because of it and that it's the only movie to do it right, which couldn't be more wrong. Also, the hour before I actually saw it, I saw ad's hyping up with "It's the greatest film, Ever" and banners saying "It's the experience of a life time" (I am not exaggerating at all). NO! It's nowhere near the greatest film of all time, it didn't do any thing to earn that. Maybe some of you were really impressed with the detail but that's not how to judge greatness at all to me. Popular votes lost all their merit for me after that. And to rub it in, Titanic was a shit load more interesting, it had far more memorable scenes.

Before I saw Frozen, everyone kept going on about how Let It Go is such a great song, and my Facebook feed was flooded with Let It Go covers. Then I watched the movie and... No, the song isn't the best Disney song. It's very good, but it's not perfect.

I liked the movie a lot, though.

OT: I seem to be someone who would start said hype than to fall victim to it... I remember always hyping up anything that Toonami/Adult Swim was showing on their lineup...

I think one of me bigger setbacks was trying to hype up the series Another with my friends by basically calling it the "better version" of Final Destination...

and then they heard the dubbed version...

However, I did fall pray to the Hangover 2 hype and tried to persuade my friends to see it with me in theaters... Long story short, we all couldn't get tickets due to ID trouble and ended up watching Kong Fu Panda 2 instead... (Yeah... We all unintentionally dodged a bullet that weekend...)

Bioshock Infinite. A film that I forgot about now. Half-Life/Team Fortress 2. Attack on Titan. And the list goes On'n'On.

Bryan's acting was top notch but the show was nothing spectacular.

After seeing the reviews for it, Uncharted 3. It was still good, but considering it got multiple perfect scores I assumed it was better than Uncharted 2. Boy was I wrong, 3 definitely did not hit all the right spots like the second one.

Last of Us might fall into this category too, but I assumed it would not be as good as the games media wanted everyone to think it was.

Paper Mario Sticker Star, mainly because JonTron kept saying how great it was on Game Grumps. Needless to say I was pretty disappointed.
