I got it, it's on my iPad right now. I don't really get to start playing til tonight.

In every rpg, it's Mage Mage Mage. I played a sorcerer in my last bg 2 experience, Mage in da:eek:, wizard in net hack, you get the idea. I also only ever play human, I'm willing to change, but not to gnome or half ling. I'm rrrrecyst.

The new rule set gives me what looks like interesting options, from inquisitors to black guards to every type of ranger under the sun.

What do you think!

What do you think the chances of it coming to steam are?

If it doesn't come to steam, where is the best place to get it for the PC? I haven't done much research on it... *I have now been answered on this, thanks guys!*

I also find I usually play a Human in rpg's, weird, you would think in a fantastical world I would want to place something strange. I guess maybe it has something with relateing with your character and still being able to experience a fantasy world around you. I mean even if you don't personally play a elf or something, doesn't mean you won't meet plenty of them in your travels.

Human Fighter/Mage and focus on buff spells. I don't think there are any NPCs of this class in the game, so it's something you can only experience as a player character. It also makes sense within the story.

It's not coming to Steam at all, or GoG, because of contractual obligations...

The game, due to contract obligations, was launched on Beamdog for the PC Edition and will be launched on the Mac App Store for the iPad and Mac OS editions. It will not be available for purchase from Steam or GOG.com.
There is only one place you can buy it and that's Beamdog.

I would have bought it in a Steam sale but it won't be there so i'll be giving it a miss.

Since I went with the iOS version, I got it from the App Store. I prefer steam for all purchases, but I wanted to support nostalgiagaming.

Ad&d was always my favorite rule set, but I never dabbled with mixed characters- purity always seemed more logical! Are there simple "dual class at level 3 " guidelines or something?

I like the wild mage(one time I permanently changed my character and her clothing bright iridescent yellow while trying to cast magic missile.

Alas! mourn for poor Naril! she killed a few too many people and was slain by the guards at nashkel.

Infact I don't think you can be a Human Fighter/Mage, you have to be Half-Elf for that to work (derp).

If that doesn't float your boat but you want to try a human duel class charater, try a Kensi Fighter, level up a bit to get your class bonus, then duel class as a mage. You suffer when you go back to level one, but when your initial class kicks back in you have what is possibly the most powerful spell-sword in the game. If you're going that route, remember to get plenty of INT in charater creation so it lets you switch over when the time is right.

ED: Derp 2: the derp returns. I totaly forgot that this is BG1, I don't even know if you can be a kensi.

Actually, go with pure mage. While BG wasn't as bad as BG2, there is, in general a lack of real magic oomph throughout the games. Edwin is really the only focussed mage and only works in an evil party anyway. Being a powerful mage in BG isn't to be scoffed at and I for one throughly enjoy it. There's so many options for warriors/tanks of any kind. Thieves are more limited but bearable but mages are really thin on the ground.

To tempt you, just think about this scenario (though you won't see it in BG1). Open door, confronted by hordes of terrors. Time Stop, Abi Dazim's Horrid Wilting x2, Meteor x1. Close door, count to 5, open door again...OMGWTF where did all the monsters go?

The Enhanced Edition adds all the classes and Kits from BG2 and, I believe, more besides. Kensai is one of them :)

I always go with a Human Fighter with enough Int to dual into a mage (BG2 is coming I'm pretty much certain of it). The combination is devastating, you get (almost) all the hp of a fighter, the ability to wear armour (though there is little fighter specific armour till the very end of the game you can cast spells in) and very close to the full fighting capacity of a fighter. In BG1 fighters are more effective than wizards because of the low levels, and if you are LG you get access to Draw Upon Holy Might which is damn near broken if you're Strength 18. Also Improved Haste Plus Time stop kills everything.

I went w/Ranger, Archer kit. Have all the new npc's in my party, leaving one slot for a vanilla npc of choice, so i'm seeing mostly new stuff w/the npc's. Closing in on chapter 4 now.

fingers crossed for an early bg2ee, icewind dale enhanced, planescape torment enhanced, bg3, iwd3, and pst2
