I actually made this one! (So talented, I know.) I wanted something more 16 bit-ish, slightly animated and something for the American Presidential elections, and it was born! It went through a couple of redesigns but I think it came out pretty nice.

I doubt i'll ever change my avatar to be honest... I like it too much. Maybe people wouldn't recognise me anymore if I randomly changed it anyway :3

Actually changed mine less than a week ago. It is a more improved version of my previous one.

One of the reasons why I changed it is because I decided that my previous one bore too much relation to the insignia of the Vanu of Planteside. Also I really just wanted to change it but never could find a reason.

Finding Nemo is one of my favorite movies ever and Crush is my favorite character from said movie.

Maybe some day I'll update it to a gif avatar, but it'll still feature Crush. I've had him for a year and a half now and it'd be a durn shame to change that.

I think i've ranted enough about LoL that if you were paying attention to a decent portion of them (for some reason) you could accurately line up all my favourite Champions and lanes.

Rules I use when choosing a new avatar:

1) Must contain a Big Daddy (broken for a short period earlier this year, never again...)

2) Must make good use of the limited pixels available and must be clear, not overly detailed

3) Must be altered to make it unique

I often also try to focus on the face as faces are generally more memorable to people.

The GIMP can do gifs: treat each layer as a frame, export as .gif and voila

Personally I get most of my avatars from screenshots, when I see something good I crop it out and save it. Then when I feel like changing my avatar (every few months) I'll have a nice little library of unused ones to choose from

I like to draw my avatars myself, even though I'm not that good an artist, nor do I like to consider myself an artist by any means.

Criteria:
Am I bored?
Do I think my avatar needs to be changed?
Am I going to use as little time and effort as possible?
Will the result be something that only I care about?
Will it be a .jpeg because I never learned the proper method of exporting a .gif in Photoshop CS5 without muddling the colors?

If the answer is yes to all of the above, then away I go!
