You might want to change your OP there, as the Wii and Wii U are different systems and the things you want are on the Wii U. XD

Anyway to answer your question, yes I think investing in a Wii U is a good thing now. If you asked me about that about a year ago, then I'd of said no and to not make the same mistake as I did. The Wii U finally has a decent amount of games, sadly not many justify the GamePad, but it's still got stuff to satisfy. I also recommend getting a Wii U Pro Controller, as you will find that they are wonderful with how many games they work with and that have way more battery life than the GamePad does.

As for graphics, Wii U can do 1080p at 30 FPS (Wind Waker HD), but not all games are 1080p as most are usually 720p but have slight upscaling for 1080p. Mario Kart 8 runs at 720p an 60 FPS, as does Sonic Lost World Wii U for example. The Wii Mode on the system also upscales Wii games like how the launch PS3's could upscale PS2 games and how all PS3 models can upscale PS1 games. Some games look worse than others though, so watch out. Games like A Boy and His Blob Wii and the Super Mario Galaxy games look gorgeous, however games like Sonic Unleashed Wii look bad. It's more if you are playing older Wii games than say the later ones though.

For Wii Mode however, you must have a Wiimote. No exceptions for that at all. The system comes with a sensor bar for the Wii, but the remotes are sold separately. I'd also recommend picking up the Pro Classic Controller if you can, since VC games must be played with those since the Wii U doesn't have a GameCube input. There is an adapter that turns GameCube controllers into Wii Classic Controllers that I'd recommend, and it works really well with no input lag for the most part. You can also have the console go into Wii Mode and have the screen appear on the GamePad, but despite this you can't control VC games with it which is rather dumb.

Assuming you mean WiiU - Those graphics would not be touched up. It's pretty consistent with the appearance of current WiiU games.

I would totally recommend getting a WiiU. I've been really digging mine in the year and half that I've had it. It had a bit of a slow start with games but there's a very decent library behind it now (not to mention Wii games too!) with a ton more on the way. Also, a lot of the games are unique to the WiiU so there's very little overlap between what you can already get on PC.

Well, if your PC can handle most modern titles, then the WiiU isn't a bad choice. I wouldn't hold your breath on the thing delivering good graphics.
Then there's the line-up of Wii game, if you're willing to pay the crazy prices for older Nintendo games.

There are a few other exclusives worth checking out if you have the time/money to do so. Nintendoland (for Xmas day fun with family), Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Pikmin 3, DK Tropical Freeze, Wonderful 101, Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta.

Every worthwhile game announced is either on PC, probably will get ported to PC, or a Wii U exclusive. Go with the Wii U and get your Smash, Mario and Capt. Toad fix.

I'm waiting for a good Black Friday deal for a Wii U, so I can play teh Pikmins and Bayonetta, among others.

So wait, the Wii-U Virtual Console supplies games that don't work with the control methods that come with the console right out of the package?!

I'm pondering getting a Wii-U myself, but if I have to buy all this bullshit along with what is already a 300 dollar console just to play the games I'm not so sure if I should.

It's dumb, I know. If Sony can have it that a PSP and a Vita can both stream games from a PS3/PS4 for display, and have the system be used as a controller then Nintendo should be able to as well. At least in the case of Virtual Console games since those only have the inputs for Classic Controllers and GameCube controllers, and the Wii U GamePad has all the buttons for a Classic Controller. It's only for VC games that are played through the Wii mode to make things clear. If you buy games from the eShop then they will work with the GamePad just fine. However, not all Wii VC games are on the eShop, but this has more to do with NoA being stupid with the eShop and VC in general. Like how Sony is stupid when it comes to PSN for Vita in the US.

*is still bitter that he can't play the Crash Bandicoot series or Spyro the Dragon series on his NTSC Vita, but PAL regions can*

I would recommend getting a Wii U, especially if you have a PC, but you want certain console exclusive games you would find on a Nintendo console. Since most PS4 and Xbox One games are on PC, having a Nintendo console makes more sense anyway. Plus you can play any Wii games on it too if you find any of those interesting.

I can say with confidence that Mario Kart 8 is my favorite Mario Kart by far, and I have high hopes for Smash U. If you can find it cheap, I would recommend Pikmin 3, one of the best overlooked Wii U games for me personally.

Here's the deal with the Wii U virtual console (VC):
There are two sets of VC games, Wii U versions and Wii versions. Both are "available" on the Wii U, but you can only play the Wii version through "Wii mode" which requires a Wiimote to even access. Wii U VC games do not have this problem, but there are some exclusives in both lists as well as some cross-over. If you own the Wii version and a Wii U version exists, then you can upgrade with a small fee ($1-$1.5), but that's only if the game is either bought through the Wii mode on the Wii U or transferred from an original Wii.

More details:
--Wii U VC - bought through eShop, no other controllers required, but older non-standard controllers may not be compatible (like the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro - not to be confused with the Wii U Pro Controller). Wii U Gamepad control and Wii U Pro Controller guaranteed to work.

--Wii mode VC - bought through the old store (Wii mode again), requires at least a Wii-mote, SNES and N64 games require a Wii-mote and at least a Classic Controller or Classic Controller Pro (original Wii included Gamecube Controller compatibility as well, but not known if new Wii U adapter will allow control of any VC games, Wii U or Wii mode). The Wii U Pro Controller does not work in Wii mode for anything. The Wii U Gamepad can be used to display all Wii mode games (disc or VC), but requires a Wii mote to play (no Wii U Gamepad controls of any kind), but a Wii Sensor Bar is integrated into the Wii U Gamepad.

Confusing to be sure, and frustrating Classic Controller/Classic Controller Pro/Wii U Pro Controller incompatibilities, but for previous Wii owners, the integration of the old hardware is awesome, there are just some drawbacks and hidden cost for non-Wii owners.

I guess, holy shit... A console that's backwards compatible if you're willing to buy atleast two extra controllers and jump through tons of hoops. And here I thought Nintendo's weird online system was enough to keep me from buying their Virtual Console stuff.

Really depends on which games you want. Most of the "classics" have Wii U versions by now, so check lists online to see if the games you really care about have Wii U versions, then you won't need to worry about the old controller compatibility.

I still find it dumb that they haven't put them all on the eShop yet, and are keeping the Wiiware Shop that still requires points. I mean, it just seems so backwards to be running 2 different shops of which both have some of the same games. It may be because some people still use their Wii's, but at the same time Nintendo has already dropped support of it for all things in favor of the 3DS and Wii U so it seems dumb to keep that Wii Shop nowadays. :/

Well that and again Nintendo of America has been shit when it comes to the eShop and Wii Shop for ages now.
