It's pretty creepy to like someone based on how they look.

"Liking somebody based on how they look" is pretty much the exact definition of physical attraction. I find person A attractive, but you don't; you think person B is beautiful but I just don't see the appeal. Nothing "creepy" about that, it's called personal preference and taste.

Considering how people from Japan tend to be pretty petite and lean compared to the average westerner, I don't see this as false advertising but just what they consider to be fluffy by their own standards. You don't really see many plump or curvaceous people in Japan barring certain exceptions.
