Smokers are disgusting.

If you see someone drinking in the middle of the street in the afternoon, when people are about, they're deemed unfit to be in society and are treated as people with a problem. Smoker's then don't see why smoking in the same circumstance attracts them ire, even though smoking's actually worse since it actually affects people around you with your disgusting second-hand smoke, and not to mention the god awful stench of a smoker.

I mean, I'm all for people doing whatever to their bodies and stuff, but you should keep to that crap in private. If you couldn't bare to go 9 hours or so without a fag then frankly, the rest of society shouldn't have to put up with your god-awful fumes so they're entitled to mock and belittle your addict-ass.
Wow, that seems a little...harsh. I'm just curious, you say that smokers are disgusting. Is it the smokers themselves, or just the smoke. And why mock and belittle anyone in the first place, smoker or non, what does it accomplish? I'm not trying to be a jackass, you just seem to be the one with the most negative thing to say so far, so if I offend, I apologize ahead of time.

Here is a question- not my viewpoint but a thought- should smokers still be entitled to free NHS treatment if it is evident that their disease can be demonstrated to be caused by smoking?-

Why should the taxpayer have to pay for smokers treatment when they have made an informed decision to smoke and well aware of the risks?

Again, not my belief but a thought that came to mind.

My personal response to smoking?- I found out around half a year ago that one of my close friends smokes- he had hoped to keep it a secret from me because he knows i dislike smoking for the simple reason its detrimental to your health. My response? He does not know that i know he smokes, but privately i lost a lot of respect i had for him. If people are willing to smoke and damage their own health- that's their choice but i won't respect them for it.

I do not care at all if people smoke as long as they do it far the fuck away from me. If I am having a conversation with someone and someone else comes over and lights up I have no problem with telling them to fuck off. That or just taking the smoke out of their mouth and throwing it.
Why not just ask them to move away. Most every smoker I know is quite respectful. If they're not aware ahead of time of your aversion to it, why start off by being a dick about it? If you ask a smoker politely to not smoke around them, most of them are happy to put it out or walk away. And flat-ouy pulling it out of their mouth and throwing it? That's a surefire way to get your ass beat in my neck of the woods. Ntrying to be a dick or start a fight, just asking and telling you from personally witnessing said fights, there's better ways to get people to not smoke around you. If I offend, I apologize.

I don't say anything for several reasons. First off, I'm allergic, so I'd rather not go any closer than I have to. Second, it's their decision, not mine. Thirdly, I hate people, what do I care if they die sooner rather than later?

Man, what's bad is that I smoke a pipe. I smoke PURE tobacco, not the shit that they call tobacco in cigarettes that makes them safer (it worked well, eh?) and people still give me hell. Most of the stuff in cigarettes is just chemicals that have been added to the minuscule amount of tobacco in each one in order to increase the nicotine content. I was a the Gatlin-berlier last week (a famous pipe shop) and the guy behind the counter was telling my family how he is addicted to nicotine, but sense he started smoking a pipe, he has noticed that the nicotine from pipe-tobacco stays in his system for literally hours, whereas when he smokes cigarettes, it doesnt stay for long at all. He said that he smoked a pipe one night, and went until lunch the next day before realizing that he hadn't smoked sense the night before! Its the chemicals that are added that cause cancer, not the tobacco.

You know I'm upper class because my first smoke was a cigar...

srsly.

It was for a Drama play for GCSE. Probably against the law but I looked so damn awesome. Also I felt so unbelievably ill. Pissed off I only got an A though, stupid bloody written exam... would've got A*...

I had a lot of good times in Drama. There was that and my teacher (and class for that matter) made me do a "sexual assault" scene. She was fine with it, I however was nervous as fuck when my first breast squeeze was going to be witnessed by an audience which included my 9 year old sister.

No regrets though. Made me the man I am today. I don't get shy any more. I just think "it's not as bad as that".

I just avoid most smokers to avoid the smell. Mind you, some brands are tolerable.
I just avoid them completely, I had a mate who started smoking, and I stopped hanging about with him, when he started smoking, mainly just due to the smell.

I do not enjoy the picture they've started putting on cigarette packets in England, the one with the dude's throat all corroded and exposed.
Thats the only bad one. The dead nuns quite funny, and the fact ones got a needle on it which is supposed to mean addictive.

Never have a problem with other people telling me not to, my mothers got over it.

Its just the new non smokers I meet that say it once or twice but I tend to just say something like "Yeah but it makes me look cool." or some other smoking cliche and they seem to realise telling me is pointless.

Also not addicted, I can substitute ciggs for skateboarding/drink/games or other things I enjoy doing.

& I smokes Golden Virginia, but I wish I could change this to Pipeweed.

Vicious group mockery of anyone in my social circle who starts smoking ensures they stop, when it's not seen as cool people don't tend to do it. We don't see many smokers in bars in the UK (it's illegal), they're all stood outside in the cold hanging about the door (being the anti-social loners you speak of, ironically). That attack just doesn't wash here.

@chefassassin2 : Mock/Belittle is just a matter of disrespect mostly. They disrespect my liking for clean air to breathe, I disrespect their habit. I don't pee in your pool, you don't fill my air with smoke. Reciprocal altruism and all that.

@oddresin : I don't even need to say anything to you because you directly compared alcoholics to smokers, then tried to rationalize your problem. That's kind of boring though so I'll just say that cars (at present) need to pump out crap to move, you don't need to pump dirty air to work, if you do indeed work.

I mean, I generally don't mind as long as you don't blow it in my face, but that's just because social convention says it's wrong to do that but okay in most other circumanstances. The OP was on about public perception to fags, I'm just saying, in general, "I only tell people who I care about to stop, and I think anyone who does it is innately scum, but I won't treat you any differently for it".

If thats all it takes for you to assume someone is scum, you need to work on yourself and get a grip.

I don't like to smoke, but it is a person's right to do so. I just won't be with them while they do it.

In the USA more people die every year from their Double-Whoppers with extra cheese and bacon then they do from smoking. Why is it that nobody makes a big deal out of this? Seriously, heart failure due to high cholesterol and bad diet is the number 1 killer in America besides old age. I'm much more concerned by the fact that nearly 40% of our population here is overweight then the i am for the small number of people who smoke.

But personally I have no problem with smokers, mostly because I am one but only socially, but also because not all smokers are gross. People that claim that all smokers are nasty and smell are coming from a place of igniorance and are most likely inexperienced with smoking or are just haters.

I think most people just need something to ***** about, people like this are never happy and always have to be the victim of something or place themselves on a higher moral ground, kind of like what some vegetarians do. i just think that if you have a problem with smokers then stay away from them, most smokers have the decency to stay away from you if they know you don't like it. So you should have the same decency and not walk up to them to try and make them fell terrible or try and take away something that brings them a little bit of joy in their day. If you are one of these people then first off...fuck you... and second... mind your own buisness.

Yeah, keep dreaming buddy, if you smoke you have to deal with the fact that the stench from your cigarette smoke is going to hang around your clothes, thats the way it is. Dont like certain people bitching about it, dont smoke around those people.

I only complain if i'm forced to breath the smoke. However, I never comment on their health choices.
