Recently I've been trying to find a game to play with my friend who has a Mac. I noticed that Civilization V has cross-platform multiplayer and as a result it seems like my top choice at the moment. Unfortunately, I've read that many people have had issues with compatibility, specifically with the gap between PC and Mac updates. I'm curious if anyone can shed some light upon this issue or at least if updates are still very frequent since Gods and Kings. If you know neither of these I guess having a good games with PC/Mac compatibility would be nice.
Thanks everyone.

You should just make a game out of chastising your friend for owning a MAC.

Oh, I do, but I'm looking for a game we would both enjoy.

Why not have your friend use boot camp so he can play games using Windows.
I'm trying but it's a hard battle to convince her.

Firaxis is super lazy about updating the patches on the Mac side for all their games. Civ 5, Borderlands 2...both HAVE cross-platform support, but the patch numbers rarely if ever match up, which prevents cross-platform play.

Around the time G&K dropped, the Mac and PC versions worked together just fine, the PC has since seen at least 2 patches that the Mac side STILL has not gotten, which is what is causing your problem.

My solution was install Civ 5 on my Windows side to play with my friend.

I appreciate it, I guess I'll go back to convincing my friend of the wonders of Windows.
