Right, as a Mac user, I haven't exactly been much of a PC gamer... I get the occasional Sims game, got Rome: Total War as soon as it was released for Mac (finally), and thats about it.

However, with Steam coming to Mac, I've found a lot more gaming opportunities have opened up to me. Horray!

My question is this: with a sale on Steam right now, is it worth getting Civ IV, especially considering Civ V is coming so soon? Also, will my slightly shabby Macbook be able to run it? I think its a couple of generations old... 2.4 GHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, if that helps.

Thanks to any help/advice anyone can give me!

Civ 5 looks to be a very different game so it may still be worth checking out. It's alot of fun especially with the expansions. I think you should be able to run it but make sure before you buy it.

Oh and if you can try SMAC instead it's cheaper and I find it to be a somewhat better game but it's worth getting both if you like it.

I really hate Civ IV. It is nowhere near as smooth as III and it has religion in it. The battles are incredibly one sided as well. Skip it and await Civ V.

IMO the game is TOTALLY worth it.

My laptop is one of the newer Ultra Low Voltage core 2 duos, but it's only 1.3 GHZ, and my video card is an Gforce 210 512MB and it plays absolutely fine. Just disable high quality terrain and you should be fine!

I say definitely, in my opinion it's the best Civ game so far (And before the oldbies lash out at me I played a lot of Civ 2 as a kid).

So, yes totally worth getting.

You know, I was so totally against some of the Civ 4 changes when I first played it, but I think I liked it even more than Civ 2 in the end.
