I don't suppose anyone has played the demo, yet?

I played it after being prompted that it was online via Penny-Arcade. ( http://www.penny-arcade.com/2008/06/06/one-possible-explanation/ ) In that post, Tycho seems doubtful about the controls for the 360, lamenting that the schema doesn't feel native to the console. After playing the extremely satisfying demo to it's conclusion, I'm left scratching my head as to what he was actually talking about. I think the control scheme is perfect. If, perhaps, anything was lacking it was some aspects of the interface.

As far as that goes, the only thing I can think of that needs fixed is: When a settler is selected, the map should show you the resource values of ALL the tiles, not just the tile that is currently highlighted. This left me flipping the stick around trying to figure out where I wanted to send my settler a little longer than I would have liked and slowed down an otherwise perfectly paced game of Civ.

What did you guys think of the demo? Yea, nay, bleh? Good controls, bad controls or GCTFOC (Get Civ The Fuck Off Consoles)?

It's weird that they wouldn't have that, since Civ 4 did include that very helpful option.

Dunno, maybe they thought all that extra information would be too much to handle for console users.

You don't need games on the train. You can just role play with fellow commuters

I liked it, addictive and gave me a warth feeling when my city of Rome reach new levels of culture when I built the wonders.

It was a nice demo. I played it with my friend (because i promised i wouldn't play the demo until he came over, he's a good Civ fan) and we were genuinly pleased.

I might get this game, but i'll wait until it's released and see some of the reviews.

I think it's a fairly pointless exercise to be honest. A dumbed down Civilisation game seems to be missing the point. I haven't played Civ 4 since my PC won't run it but I'm still happy playing Civ 3 on the PC. I like the complexity of the game and removing it feels like Civ's been lobotomised. No offense to anyone that liked the demo, but I just don't see the point.
