I'm not a typical guy, in so far as that I don't like beer, curry, football, or cars.
However, when flicking thru the channels, I have found myself settling on an episode of Top Gear, purely because Clarkson and the other two make it entertaining, and enjoyable to watch, even for normal people and non car fetishists.
I agree it wasn't smart to keep pushing it after you'd just skirted around some trouble, I'm getting thoroughly sick of the whole 'I heard someone might have said something I don't agree with, and now I'm offended' plague that's washing over the country.
It was the same with the Brass Eye Paedophilia Special, MP's condemning it, then forced to admit they'd not seen a single second of the show and were knee jerk reacting to something they'd 'heard was bad'. Then there was 'Jerry Springer - The Opera' which only got so many vast swatches of complaints because Christian Organisations were setting up operations against it, until they did that, the TV station had actually had more messages of support than complaints.
Maybe we should set it so you have 24 hours to get your complaint in by e-mail or telephone. If you can't be bothered to do that, you obviously were not offended enough. It would stop all the 'I got an email sending me a to a link about the Russell Brand thing, saying how offensive it was, sat there and listened to the whole thing, and now I am offended'.
Personally I'm offended these people who are complaining are using up all my air.
I also agree with Mackem, in that its a terrible shame that all the 'creators' are now pandering to the lowest common denominator rather than trying to make something great.
I know it makes sense from a statistics point of view, but I wish they'd quit making shows like My Family, which vaguely and mildly amused about 10 million viewers, and get us more Black Books, which was an instant classic and truly witty, and well written, entertaining maybe the 3 million who understood it. Stupid thing was, Black books wasn't ever very sweary, or rude, or violent, was just tucked away in a time slot many would never find. I think 'Bloody bastard arse' was about as rude as it ever got, stopping it from being saturday at 6:30 fodder, but it deserved better treatment.
