I think the people that complain are the twats not Clarkson. Not that I'm a big fan of his.
I think everybody needs to get off their high horses and let people have opinions. Just because he is a big TV personality, it doesn't strip him of his right to have an opinion that differs from the good suck up way of thinking.

If you were to listen to the average Australian's opinion of the Prime Ministers here, you'd find much worse things said.
I've lived in England (for 13 years) and even though I'm living in Australia now (I get to see Clarkson tomorrow! Whoo!), I take it that the British media still loves to go completely over the top on everything they can get their hands on. Funnily enough, so does most/all media in the world.
