Despite my earlier comment this topic does have merit because everywhere there is too little understanding of what is rich and what is poor. (keep in mind these rough figures are just approximations as everywhere has a cost of living index)
The way I see it poor is equated to day to day survival. Food, water, Shelter, electricity. Ive seen first hand a family of four exist on roughly 10k per year. Thats what I would consider Surviving.
Doing Ok takes what is considered surviving and adds to it. Things like financial security of owning a home, (Ha, yeah right, not anymore) Luxury expenses such as phones, internet, etc. Ive seen first hand a family of four with everything you would see in a surviving household, plus a mortgage, multiple cars, Cable, internet. I would consider that Flourishing
Doing well takes all of the previous two and continues to add more to it. Things like the ability to invest, Discretionary spending, Multiple luxuries. I have first hand seen a family of four doing well at 30-50k per year. I would consider that thriving.
Beyond that you have more than satisfied your basic financial needs. Your able to survive and that is the most important part. Everything beyond survival is a bonus. You start to enter into the area when money is no longer crucial to defining your level of existence. To me that would be rich.
Then in the upper stratas you see people making Millions of dollars per year, from various forms of revenue such as vocation, investment, speculation, etc. This enters into a realm of wealthy.
Far too many people have this notion of 100k per year is not rich. If your struggling to get by living on 100k per year, then perhaps it might be time to re prioritize your life and trim some of the fat out of your life that has you struggling to survive at 100k because I know of nowhere as it relates to cost of living index(at least in the US) that you cant survive on 100k per year.
