That isn't surprising. You have to sit through, like, an hour of babbling cut-scene dialogue before you can even play it. It makes you wait the longest time for the really pretty and cool stuff.NeutralDrow said:I'm struggling to get into Okami, at the moment. See, that's what I was thinking.stroopwafel said:Had I played Deus ex when it originally came out, yeah, I would have probably really liked it.
Honestly, the vast majority of what was awful about Deus Ex 1, was awful at the time. (And I love that game.)Extra-Ordinary said:See, that's what I was thinking.stroopwafel said:Had I played Deus ex when it originally came out, yeah, I would have probably really liked it.
... Hang on, when did I ever say that? Or were you quoting someone else and the forums fucked up? I actually love MGS unironically.stroopwafel said:Cid Silverwing said:In MGS you meet someone for the first time and have to sit there for 15 minute while they tell you their life story. Gotta second this. I remember playing Deus Ex something like 15 or so years ago for the first and only time. As much as I love the story and the atmosphere, the graphics, interface and especially combat were clunky as hell even back then. Which is probably why I haven't gone back to replay it. Really, if the combat was fixed to be...well, fun, I think I'd actually go back and replay it. One thing I was glad for in HR, though too bad the boss fights were broken as hell.Pyrian said:Honestly, the vast majority of what was awful about Deus Ex 1, was awful at the time. The quote was from me. Either stroopwafel or the quote system messed up.Cid Silverwing said:... Hang on, when did I ever say that? Or were you quoting someone else and the forums fucked up? I also have to make myself stay with Super Metroid. And Symphony of Time as well. Might speak to my lack of patience. But something about the controls and backtracking through 2d environments just doesn't work for me. (it does in Guacamelee though)
And like apparently a few of you I gave up on Ocarina of Time. Didn't grab me at all. But this one doesnt bother me as much.
Ahh nothing spooks me more in that game than one of those service bots spawning right behind me and going "Welcome aboard" right into my face. Or one of those frigging ..forgot their name..cyber maidens? Spawning around a corner you checked 10 seconds ago and then screaming THE CHILDREN DON'T LIKE YOU.Ihateregistering1 said:happening, and really feels like true 'survival horror'. This is what made the game for me. I played it in around '98 in the same scenario and utterly hated it. Skip forward around 1 year and I give it another go, and wow do I become hooked.baddude1337 said:Been trying to play the classic X-Com and yeah, I just can't. They really throw you in the deep end with no explanation of any of it's mechanics at all (fortunately the Steam version comes with a digital manual). I don't mind retro graphics and stuff, but the interface really leaves something to be desired, and RNG seems to just hate me even more than the modern remake.
Oh man Morrowind is just pure RPG heaven for me (apart from the combat). I think it's a bit of a sad reflection on modern gaming how things such as the geography of the maps are viewed as confounding. For me it was relatively simply map reading and exploration, and it helped give it so muchdepth and satisfaction. Maybe it's a generation thing?jklinders said:Morrowind. I really wanted to like it and get into it but the ganky leveling system, weird pseudo action RPG combat and even the geography of the maps confounded me to the point that I just gave up.
The first Deus Ex game. Utter blasphemy for a PC gamer but I just...can't...get...past...the horrid voice acting and even more horrid textures. Early voice acting and 3D were terrible. Any time I had to platform I cringed.
OT: Arcanum - i was huge fan on first Fallouts, so i couldn't wait to try Another Great RPG by some of the same people. But it just felt so slow and archaic... Shame, because i really like the idea fantasy/steampunk/wildwest rpg.MrCalavera said:TBF there are no 'areas' in technical sense in Gothic - it's pretty much all open world with no loading screens up until last part of the game. And that lightning? It was the defense system, the great barier that keeps all these nasty prisoners(and you) in. Think of it as a way of employing "invisible walls", known so well from other sandboxes, into the plot. But yeah, although it gets better later, in the beginning Gothic can be damn unforgivable, especially compared to similar sandbox-y rpgs, like Morrowind for example.Elementary - Dear Watson said:Gothic I didn't get past the first area. Be not afraid! Human Revolution is a prequel to first Deus Ex so you can safely start from it.Extra-Ordinary said:Deus Ex.
I just got interested in the Deus Ex universe and figured I'd start from the beginning.
