I hear this http://www.gog.com/gamecard/combat_mission_beyond_overlord as well as the Commandos series are somewhat similar, but I've got no idea where you can get Close Combat. Maybe that'll pop up on GoG one day.
Company of Heroes is one of the best damn games ever made. It has its flaws though, there can be a pretty big element of randomness compared to other RTS's (units can have a tendency to repeatedly miss for instance) and Relic isn't exactly known for having the best game balance, but its awesome to watch, fun to play and doesn't force you to spend every second managing resource collection. The vanilla game features the American Army and German Wehrmacht and the Opposing Fronts expansion adds the British Army and German Panzer Elite. Vanilla has only an American campaign, Opposing Fronts adds two new campaigns (my favourites) for the Brits and PE, and the second expansion adds three new campaigns, but it's generally considered these are sub-par to the others. All of the armies are quite different and you can choose from a particular doctrine which gets you certain bonuses, for instance the Brits can choose from an upgrade tree which focuses on commandos, which ends up giving you access to glider drops, a tree which focuses on artillery, upgrading your artillery and ultimately giving you access to self propelled guns, and the last which focuses on defensive upgrades and lets you call in some serious heavy tanks.
If the CoH series pops up on a Steam sale its definitely worth grabbing, otherwise if you want this game you should definitely at least get vanillia CoH and Opposing Fronts so you have all the armies. All the second expansion, Tales of Valor really adds are a few half assed campaigns, modes and alternate units for MP. There's some pretty annoying connection issues with the game but finding a match isn't typically too hard since there's still a fairly active community and some really cool mods.
CoH 2 is set in the Eastern Front. There's gonna be a Soviet campaign, multiplayer and also a new mode which is basically made up of a bunch of different solo or co-op missions for both Germans and Ruskies which the devs apparently plan to add a lot of new stuff to. I haven't played the beta but from what I've heard it's pretty damn cool. The CoH gameplay is still pretty much intact but the Soviets in particular seem to be a vastly different army to everything else so far. IGN also did a video of the early campaign recently http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIhapxiPflo . Only real downside seems to be the graphics. While the destruction and physics effects are insane the actual at a glance quality of the game just doesn't look that great compared to most games today, though definitely not a dealbreaker.
