And WOMEN. Black leggings alone are not acceptable clothing. It just tells me that you are a slut but your actual legs look like shit.
Wtf? Wearing black leggins has nothing to do with being "a slut".
Not according to what the black leggings are telling me and I trust them over you.
Calling somebody a slut just because you disagree with their fashion sense is a pretty douchy move. I don't see how the actor Jennifer Love Hewitt is in any way relevant to this discussion. I doubt you know anything about her sex life.
Well, you're correct. I had no idea who it was when I picked the image and I know nothing about her sex life. However the relevance to the discussion is blatant. We're talking about clothing items we don't understand and I used a picture of one such item of clothing being worn, coincidentally by said person. I'm rather surprised you didn't spot that relevance at the outset.

As for whether it's a douchey move to call her a slut for wearing clothes that I consider an unofficial slut uniform, I can live with being a douche.
Yeah, the point was that just like you know nothing about Jennifer Love Hewitt's sex life, you know nothing about any other stranger's sex life. But I guess it's pretty clear that you are all fine and dandy with using slurs so it's pretty pointless to continue this discussion.

Pant chains, just...why? It really doesn't look that cool.

Fingerless gloves on the other hand (see what I did there?) are good for doing tasks that require careful fingerwork such as typing and they keep your hands nice and toasty.
Chains prevent pick pocketing. They're supposed to attach to your wallet.

I judge people by the way they look. Everyone does it subconsciously, and even consciously in a lot of cases. I'm just being honest about it. My reasoning for judging them is this:

- As far as I'm aware these people choose their clothes and are aware of what thy look like in them.
- You can quite clearly see just about every feature of a persons bum in leggings.
THEREFORE
- They want every feature of their bum to be visible to everyone if they wear them in public.
I ASSUME
- Most people who want to show their bum to the world aren't exactly prudish when it comes to the bedroom department.
THEREFORE
- I use a derogatory term for a sexually promiscuous woman to describe women dressed in said item of clothing in the stated manner.
- I use a derogatory term specifically because I'm not in favour of the practice and I want to insult them.

So I said slut... At least half jovially but I'll stick to my guns on it regardless. I know slut is insulting, that's why I used it. In fact it should have been clear at the outset that I am "fine and dandy with using slurs" as I had just used one. So by your own logic it would be pointless to even START the discussion, but I would disagree. I for one have enjoyed it, so thank you. I've certainly learned something... that that's Jennifer Love Hewitt's bum at the very least.

I will continue to judge people by the way they look though. I mean how else am I supposed to identify hipsters at long range otherwise?

Any female shoe that isn't flat....i if you look at a women wearing heals while she is walking you can see her ankle twist. Its like walking around with a giant neon mug me sign pointed down at you because you can't move faster then a sleeping slug. So inpractical

I generally don't mind what other people wear unless it just seems ridiculous to me, or they complain about what they wear despite saying how 'they like it so much.' But there are some things that just make me think, "Why?"

-Jeans hanging around the knees. How can you move?
-Jeans that look tight enough to cut off your leg's circulation. Once again, how can you move in those?
-High heels that are excessively high.
-Ridiculously short shorts on both men and women. Just...no
-Ludicrously low cut shirts on women, especially when it looks like their bra is two sizes too small. It seems uncomfortable on so many levels...
-Boots outside of during Winter or for work. I just don't get it.
-Huge-ass jewelry.
-Thong/Speedo. It just seems so...uncomfortable. For both parties.
-Shutter shades. What's their purpose!? Seriously!
-Big-framed glasses. I get that they improve your peripherals, rather than just your direct vision, but they just look too big for a person's face.

Bandanas. Unless your last name is Shakur please stay away from them; actually while I'm the subject of hats. Trilbies, and Fedoras do not make you in a suave charmer. Nine out of Ten times you end up looking like a complete knob.

Fake Edit: I guess you can also wear Bandanas if you're Dr. Evil
Now that's hot.

Hoodies that are so thin they don't keep in any heat and block no air. I don't get why people pay as much for them as they do for ones that actually do what a hooded sweatshirt is supposed to do.

My ex-girlfriend had this one piece short-suit thing. It was like called a romper or some shit and all I could think about was that sounds like something a baby would wear why is grown woman wearing something like that. It makes you look your pregnant even though your skinny, it has a similar type of pattern as several couches I've seen, you have to be completely naked in order to take a piss, and there is nothing fashionable about them.
Maybe her jumper just didn't fit her.

My girlfriend is smoking in her's.

Not so much a clothing I don't understand, but guys, why do you call your undershirts 'wifebeaters'? Don't you realise how awful that sounds?
It's only a wifebeater if you wear it alone, and it's only the sleeveless ones. It comes from the fact that redneck wife beaters were these undershirts.

I'm aware of how they got the name, but why in the world would you keep calling them that? What is wrong with "tank top"? I just can't imagine why you'd want to refer to your clothing that way. If a group of women became infamous for choking their children while wearing a certain style of jacket, I wouldn't refer to my own jacket as a "baby strangler". It just seems completely odd to me that guys are like "yes, this seems like a perfectly valid name for a thing".

Hoodies and All baseball caps in existence. New Era or whatever, they all look incredibly stupid in any form and must all be burned. I wear fedoras. I don't wear Hoodies, I don't have a neckbeard, and I choose clothing items that specifically go with them. I don't understand all the hate for them. I didn't even know there was a hat trend for MLP fans until two minutes ago.

Suits. Specifically business clothes. I don't own any, and I'll never wear them to an interview or anything. Just no chance.

You might be the best person in the world at your job. Or the worst. Sharp clothes do nothing to convince me either way. They don't inspire my confidence, that's for sure. Are you hiding something? Did your mother dress you? Who knows. I'm not crediting you a damned thing.

No amount of expert ironing of unpleasant clothes will erase the possibility from my mind that you're an inept sod who doesn't know shit about shit. So why not wear whatever makes you comfortable instead?

Doesn't matter I suppose. As long as I don't have to tag along. But with the above in mind, what's the point of them...
Hi Candidus, among others,

The use of suits to convey professionalism and ability is a Rational Astrology, and their value comes only because society believes that perception to be true and accurate. There is nothing about wearing a suit that intrinsically indicates someone's superiority or skills relative to any other piece of clothing, and considering the relative costs of clothing, it is irrational to wear them except to appease those who are irrational.

I do not personally wear suits, except to the extent forced upon me by my family at my Grandfather's funeral. I wore a shirt and dress slacks to my job interview and was still hired, though I may have been luckier than most. I would suggest to people here that if you have no driving need to appease an irrational society, you should probably avoid doing so, because you are just helping perpetuate lines of thought that do not make sense.

Nothing more irrational than what you just posted. A lot of people like the look of suits; that is an esthetic thing, not a societal thing.
Vanity is not a positive attribute to have. It does not accomplish anything of merit, so spending an inordinate amount of time or money on it does not really make sense.

I do hope that you find happiness and will be your friend always.

Caring about your appearance is not a sin, nor is it inherently vain.

With all love and respect.

valium
Hi Valium,

I disagree with your assessment of the term vanity, but I will agree that it is not a sin in wanting to look pretty. I do not believe in any sins, it is just irrational because of the time wasted on such things.

That same time dedicated to your own education would be more valuable and would add up to quite a bit of saved hours, over the years. If you would like to start today, I will recommend to you the book Cable Cowboy: John Malone and the Rise of the Modern Cable Business.

It is available on Kindle through the Amazon store, and you will learn quite a bit from it not only regarding the cable industry, but capital allocation and financial engineering as well. It is my second favorite book that I have read this year, but I suspect my #1 favorite book targets too small of an audience to be of interest to most people.

Thank you for your kind wishes, and the same goes for you as well.

A friend of mine once did an experiment: he went to the mall wearing a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops. The guards all gave him an extra once-over with the metal detectors, and were very stern in dealing with him. He then went home, dressed up in his finest business attire, and went back to the mall after an hour. The very same people who treated him like dirt suddenly started kowtowing to him.

So I guess that's the reason for wearing suits: it's visual shorthand for "I'm important."

On the flip side of things, my old boss claimed that he could command a room while in a T-shirt and ratty jeans, all through the power of projecting his inner douchebag.

Seems to me though that you've already codified in your mind that suits = stupid idiots. I'm basing that entirely on your comment above.

Underware.

I'm not claiming to be particuarily ignorant here, but have a serious think as to the point of underware.

That's aside from having someone else take them off for you.
At then end of an average day, your underwear is soiled with ~1/4 gram of fecal material, and thats even if you are properly wiped.

Clean underwear, every day.
