In case you didn't hear, someone from CNN did a story worthy of something that might appear in a magazine that tells about appearances of Elvis and aliens. It claims that manga is child porn.. seriously?.. ok they sought out one manga in particular, a series called Doll FAll 2..(here's the link to the story on Otaku USA magazine website)

http://www.otakuusamagazine.com/LatestNews/News1/CNN-Vilifies-Manga-as-Child-Porn-5747.aspx

i've never heard of it before but I did check out the first chapter of the horror manga series.. and there's virtually no nudity (except one scene that shows a 16 year old girl girl bathing, but you only see her bare back, nothing else),some blood and gore at the end of the chapter and one scene of a girl getting burned by cigarettes in a flash back.. but I didn't see no evidence of any child pornography anywhere..

The reason CNN said it was child porn is because of the cover, which as you can see is kind of explicit, but not as bad as they make it seem in their story where they blurred the image in order to make it seem worse then it actually is.

Here's the original image

and here's the image CNN used

This story comes after Japan recently outlawed child pornography adn it's clearly the same as reporters jumping on any mention of videogames in a murder that happens involving young people.

Obviously child pornography should be illegal and their certainly are some pervert manga and anime in japan...no one's questioning that..

This is about CNN bending the truth to suit their needs. they based their information on this manga being supposed child pornography based on a cover that's not even that explicated compared to some I've seen.. they didn't read the comic, they only looked at the cover and then blurred the image to make it appear sexual.

What does everyone think about this?

First things first; Japan only recently outlawed kiddie porn? Holy crap, did not know it was even legal there. I mean, they produce some messed up things, and they really need to stop trying to sex up 14-16 year olds (but then, so does everyone else), but just...wow.

Anyway, onto the main point; that cover is really off-putting to me. They both look about 8 or 10, except the pink one has cleavage (why?), and the skirts are showing asscheek. From what you described, this is, aside from being NO 10 YEAR OLDS DO NOT HAVE BOOBS AND SHOULD NOT BE WEARING ASSCHEEK SKIRTS WTF JAPAN!..ahem, sorry, meant to say in poor taste, just not a very accurate cover, since it really is not conveying horror. Maybe the blood drops, but they are very small compared to the... bad-implications central artwork.

Having said all that; look, CNN, I know the modern age has been tough on you. Ratings are down, profits are down, you're kind of a joke with all your pointless overdone screens and trying to look all high techy and coming across dumb and pretentious. I feel for you, I do. And I'm sure budget cuts had to be made so Wolf Blitzer could have a second touchscreen table to draw circles on, but, guys, Google is free. I mean, y'all do have interns, right? Or reporters who know how to sorta work an internet? Somebody who can type the anime title into Google (or, for the advanced, Wikipedia), and see if it really was a kiddie porn cartoon. I mean, can't entirely blame you for first impressions. No way in hell am I buying anything with that cover on it, but if you folks are going to report something, just take five or ten seconds and make sure you aren't making yourselves look dumber. For your sake.

Can we get a link? Googling Doll Fall 2 CNN comes back with this thread.

CNN has a tendency to exaggerate cause and blame 'new media' (Video games, non-traditional media [manga] and so on). Even so, I'd like to read the article before continuing.

Also, your images are broken.

EDIT:

Found It.

EDIT EDIT: Just watched the video.

Jesus Christ, CNN. I know you haven't had integrity for years, but shit. This is ridiculous. Could you spend more then 5 minutes researching before you proclaim entire cultures are evil pedophile growing pricks, eager to spread the mental sickness?

Intellectually disgusting.

First things first... many 10 year olds do have boobs. I did. I bought my first bra at 8, as do many other girls these days. This is especially problematic on small frames because it is so noticeable. Some parents these days tend to freak out on it:
http://www.circleofmoms.com/moms-with-school-age-kids/help-my-10-year-old-is-growing-breasts-where-do-we-start-664170
This may be helpful:
http://kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/changing_body/start_developing.html

ALSO having more girls these days with breasts developing at 7-10 should make it even more important not to sexualize young girls or give sexualized characters child like features as is often popular in anime. Giving sexualized women " child like faces and appearance" should be condemned due to the impact this can have on young girls AND on how they are viewed by others.

Women are not "little dolls" and should not be portrayed as such.

Looks like cartoon sexualized young girls to me. I can see how this should be restricted, and as a woman I find this offensive.

I honestly find that MORE offensive than Hustler because it isn't just sexualizing women, it is sexualizing girls with child like features. As a woman, I am not offended by the portrayal of women in Hustler and enjoy a good bit of porn myself, however I am offended by the portrayal of women in anime as " little dolls" and see that as more degrading. Making women into " feisty little dolls" (which I have actually been called by a man) places women in a light to not be taken seriously, and treats us as helpless as children. Even worse, it is sexualizing young girls, especially in anime with their child like features and high pitched voices, which should be considered off limits sexually and in extremely poor taste.

Huh, it's up to many now? I figured a few here and there, maybe. Damn, that's changed. Now I feel old and out of it. Then again, not like I have a reason to be checking 10 year old chest sizes lol.

Ha! I mentioned I'd probably see this pop up in a usergroup, guess I was right.

I get what their getting at, but I have to ask. How common is this kind of thing made. The site I read from has one rule, no children under 12, so I really do not know. In the end, this whole issue boils down to if fantasy can effect reality. Could someone who reads this hentai end up raping and murdering a young child in the real world? Though CNN did do some very ignorant reporting on the subject.

I suppose maybe what they're getting at is that if that picture involved two real girls of the same age, it would most definitely be considered child pornography. Then it boils down to whether you think illustrations can be considered child porn, I'm still not sure where I stand with this one.

I do think the of abundance of illustrations of children with massive tits and a revealing school uniform is problematic. The sexualisation of these child-like figures makes me feel uncomfortable, personally. Especially when it's explained away with "don't worry, she's actually a 5000 year old demon, not really a child".

I wouldn't go so far as to point fingers and accuse the consumers of this material of being pedophiles and CNN's reaction is definitely sensationalised but I do think there's a problem there.

Well, it's not like this sort of stuff was ever not vilified. It's tolerated because it's drawn, and drawn in a way to not represent reality at all, but this has always been creepy fetish territory.

The idea behind it might be reprehensible, but this is not an act of child pornography.

This is not just a girls thing though. Anything that's small and cute tends to have its own little subgenre in Japanese comics, whether it's girls, boys, or animals. Japan has kind of a thing for cuteness to a point where a certain percentage is sexually attracted to it.

That makes this even worse. If people are actually becoming sexually attracted to cute little animals and kids cartoon or otherwise, they should work even harder to correct the problem and encourage a healthier sexual appetite instead. Reducing exposure to sexualized cuteness would be a start. It is unhealthy and could be damaging to their relationships and actual adult human social interactions. For example, if someone is more sexually attracted to a furby than an adult male/female they should consider seeking a Psychiatrist to assist them with their problem rather than buying more furbys.

Does "sexual regression therapy" actually work?
I know that you can change sexual preferences over time but most of the time it's a natural progression that you cannot force.
In my personal experience overexposure reduced ones reaction to something and doesn't make you more likely to act on it.
I don't buy into developing sexual appetites from exposure to it, mine didn't even exist when I was a child and there is absolutely no reason to develop one for it as I was never exposed to it in any sexual context.

How people get their kicks is up to them. As long as they don't hurt or watch others being hurt I really don't see too much of a problem with it.

Fetishes are fetishes because they're weird and controversial. There's people who like to wear diapers, or who are attracted to clowns or balloons, and others who have love dolls. It's freaky, but eh...

This "lolicon" stuff however falls into an odd place, where on the one hand it's just a drawning, but on the other it's sexualizing something that in real life is such a horrid and devastating thing. Though you could also say the same thing about torture porn.

I am not a fan of "regression therapy" of any kind tbh. However, CBT has been shown to be effective:

As I read it, it is in some cases, some of the time, to a certain degree and needs constant vigilance by everyone involved for it to barely work.
I can see it's the only thing that you can do but it doesn't seem THAT helpful.

Look, if this kind of material makes people want to rape kids, then violent video games will turn people into murderers. sounds pretty logical to me. Fantasy does not equal reality. No matter how tasteless the work may be. Soon we might as well ban ANY kind of fantasy that we deem to be inappropriate. You should be able to watch whatever you want so long as your not breaking the law, or hurting no one. I

How people get their kicks can be and often is harmless however, it can also be devastating to the person and affect their life in a very negative way. These " kicks" can destroy their relationships, lead to isolation, anxiety, and often leads to depression and suicide if not properly addressed. Often people do not seek help because they are embarrassed or they do not even realize they have a problem until it has effected their life in a negative way.
