some of my favorite 4 player co-op games are the xmen legends games. I believe there are 2 of them out there, and they are a blast with 4 people (xmen legends 2 was the best). I do agree with you though, I always go looking for co op games for me and the old lady, and there is nothing these days that doesn't involve either online multi only, or you have to system link a console for 2 people. Happy hunting sir!!
In that spirit, Marvel Ultimate Alliance isn't too terrible.

I am getting dissapointed by the lack of new releases without local MP. I mean, if Bad Company had local MP I would've bought it.

My friends played a 7 person diablo 2 co op game. It broke down to six nights one night per act 1-4 and two nights for act 5. Diablo 2 is fairly cheap these days and can run on older computers. All you realy need to buy is the expansion disk if you have one copy of the original.

R6:Vegas quite good. Play through main game, or just go on a terrorist hunt. Havent played the sequel yet...
Its pretty much the same experience, If you have the original there's no reason to get the sequel. But Yeah Rainbox Six Vegas (and Vegas 2) are both lots of fun co-op. I would say army of two (having played the demo) but no, just no. Diablo 1 and 2 over LAN is pretty fun too. Though going on battle.net and seeing all the high level guys with armour that makes them glow a bright white light out in all directions makes you feel a little bad about your guy wearing just particularly thick cloth.

Doom 3 with the co op mod was alot of fun, could actually use the flashlight and have the other person shoot in the much darker areas.

If you play it for the story, Kane and Lynch is actually kinda fun. It has absolutely no replay value but for the once through it isn't bad. Just stick it out through the rough part in the middle because the start and the end of the game are awesome.

Much as some folks hate it, I've always liked playing Dynasty Warriors. In the later games a 2nd player is practically required to accomplish some of the loftier secondary goals.

I was gonna suggest Sven Coop as, well, it's a frickin' classic, but someone already did. So, um, runner ups that haven't been mentioned:

Brain Bread - half decent Half-Life mod. Can at least hold you over until Left 4 Dead comes out.
Doom 1-3
Garry's Mod
Crackdown - only 2 player, so not sure how that'll work out for ya
Obsidian Conflict - kind of a Sven Coop for Half-Life 2

Can't wait for Sven Coop 2 though. Man I wish those guys would finish with 4.0 and get to makin' the Source version.

You could always get a copy of Serious Sam. It's online server numbers may be rather small, ubt it's still good for a romp through the gibs.

You HAVE to crank the difficulty to max, though. It'll make it oh so much more fun.

EDIT: Looks like someone else already got the boot to the head. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFldBVWFgWo]

At my house, we quite liked TimeSplitters Future Perfect, The Red Star (great old school action) and the Lego Star Wars and Indiana Jones games. All PS2.
