Co-op ruining games.

I think split screen is what ruins a game during co-op (even on a giant TV), but if you are playing in the same screen with someone it restricts your movement because you can't move outside the sight lines of the other player.

Kind of a lose/lose situation I guess. Someone needs to perfect this.

I wou;dn't say it ruins a game. Like Gears Of War 2. Either playing by yourself, or with others, the game is both still the same while doing something different, like someone has to hit a switch while the other defends. What I don't like about co-op in games is that it seems like a necessity. Every review site rags on a game because the developers had no intention of putting a multiplayer concept in. Then we get games that seem to have more focus on the multiplayer aspect than the actual game *cough* Halo 2 onwards *Cough*.

It depends on the game and the person you're playing it with.

I'm making an effort to stay far away from co-op in Borderlands.
If people join my game and see that i'm finding the game the tiniest bit challenging they log back out and join with a character that's 30 levels higher than me - i don't need people playing my game for me thanks ¬¬

There's always the annoying people out there too that strive to ruin your game in any way possible. And it's best to play with someone at a similar skill level so they don't take away the challenge or start patronising you :/

As long as they're not terrible partners then I don't have a problem with it.

Like today I was on Dark Carnival on Left 4 Dead 2 and we had gotten past a witch barely and we were all low on health so we healed up before the climax event. Then someone on our team out of nowhere just killed us all for no reason. We hadn't done anything to provoke this... he just killed us. That is not cool.

Its Christmas morning, and I'm the first one awake. My medicene's giving me a bad stomach ache, so I figure I should eat so it doesn't give me ulcers. So, to wait 'til the others wake up, I decide to play a little TF2.
This one guy's yelling at everyone, making such a big deal, calling people, gay (and more derrogetory versions of such a label) and saying that he doesn't care about the game, but just wants to win. (if that makes any sense...?)
So, at one point, I pop on the chat, and tell him that he needs to stop using homosexuality as an insult. Considering that just the day before, someone close to me who was gay was talking about how hurtful she finds it, I can't help but be bothered by it myself.

What really killed TF2 for me was how not only that jerk, but half the people in 2fort dusty jumped on me, saying that I need to stop taking the game so seriously.
Then they proceeded to make personal attacks on me.
On Christmas.

But then we made Christmas fudge, and I was happy agian. :)

Co-op only ruins games when I'm stuck with an AI partner. The AI in RE5? My word, it was terrible. The AI in Left 4 Dead 2 is pretty terrible, too. The Infected are all top notch. The specials make it their mission to screw you over and the AID works in their favor all the time.

Ask for some competence in your AI partners, though? They're going to dance on your dying corpse while a Hunter rips out your innards. :(

I've only ever had to deal with griefers every now and again.

Really, the only way to handle this situation is to call the offender out. He's clearly in the closet, and you need to help him get out of it!

The only way to win against a troll is to troll back. Hard.

co op isn't ruining games then is it?

People are.

Jeesh, co op USED to be standard. Now it's a gimmick. I'm tired of the landslide of SP only or MP competitive only games. U essentially cant play with 2 or 3 friends anymore. Instead u play alone or with a dozen friends.

Left 4 Dead co-op can be highly annoying if you're playing with idiots. Once I was kicked from a game because I sounded English, despite being Welsh.

One of my friends is the worst person on earth to play coop with. He'll kill you if he wants a weapon you picked up and refuses to stick together and work as part of a team.

I own left 4 dead 2 for the xbox 360 (Yeah yeah yeah, my computer wouldn't have been able to handle it but it's still a blast to play on the xbox) and for starters it's pretty hard to get into any match with human teammates. And so far my experiences with human teammates have either been an efficient example of teamwork with all of us playing responsibly, keeping good communication and just having lots of fun. Or they have been with a few arrogant, microphone-less (But maybe that's a good thing in this case) retards who do nothing but teamkill, purposely try to avoid doing the objectives and of course subscribe to all the don'ts of playing left 4 dead, such as startling the witch on purpose...on realism mode.

But even in other games where co-operative play isn't essential (A prominent example being zombie master...and yes I do love zombie games) other players can wreck the experience. In this game zombie master I've had to endure people throwing objects we need in order to win off cliffs, I've had to endure ultra religious, joyless ten year olds refusing to get out of the way or do something you ask them to do until they can prove how much history they know (I'm not kidding, this little moron once joined who just started arguments with everybody "Turn that rock music off because it goes against the teachings of Christ" or "Yeah well I know more history than you so you can shut up") or you apologize for calling them a Prodistan fuckwit (That probably reflects badly on my part...but oh well). Hell just today I had to endure a bunch of idiots who used abbreviations like lol and omg in every second sentence they typed on a server which I constantly visit where I know they'd never been on before, that kind of stuffs okay in my book but they just kept anooying me because when one of them typed something along the lines "Lulz how old r every1 Im 17" and I just typed "14" for the next 5 minutes I was in that match they just kept typing "Lolz not mature enuff yet :)))" which is ironic considering they possesed the mentality of a 9 year old on myspace with a bag of sugar and a spoon.

But hey, I actually have lots of fun joining a game and working together with a few complete strangers (Or friends) to complete one major objective. And if I have to endure a few bad servers with annoying players to experience that fun then so be it.

I mostly just play TF2 and L4D2 with random people online and don't know that I've ever had a bad experience. Maybe one in TF2 actually, but I just joined another server.

Maybe it's a PC thing. Or maybe I'm lucky.

yeah , i hated lbp for that too... finding someone who just wanted to get the game done and not be a jerk ... co-op is only fun if ya could play with either someone with the same goal or yourself with a second controller

games like Modern Warfare 2 suck when you go online and you get put in a team of unco-operative turds. I tend to play matches on Domination & Ground War so I like to get some kind of tactic going. I keep my eye on my mini-map & try defend where I can. When I tell my "team" to try defend somewhere, or take back a certain flag, I get ignored. There's never any tactic in Call of Duty anymore. I wish I had a clan for playing online games because it'd be nice to even just have one guy on my team listening to what I was saying.

I love splitscreen and co-op, whenever a teammate is being a dick, I just blast that fucker to hell. Probably wouldn't work in Little Big Planet, but in L4D on Expert, it sure does.

No this hasn't happened to me but me and my friend try to have competitions in Co-op to see who can kill the most people or each other the most so either way we have fun.

Depends on the game and who you are playing with. For example, playing LittleBigPlanet with my brother can be a pain in the ass because he always tries to run into puzzles first and dies straight away, always grabs onto me as I go to jump then we both die and stuff like that.

But playing Gears of War with him is pretty damn fun. We manage to get pretty far in Horde mode, and beat majority of the game on Insane with him.
