Before you guys ask "IS THIS FOR REAL?" and "WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?", let me remind you that this is just an idea I thought of.

Now hear me on this: I'm a fan of both franchises and their characters and I enjoy their games thoroughly. And ever since Sega began making games for Nintendo consoles, and especially after seeing Sonic and Mario in both Mario/Sonic Olympics(pretty lousy game) and Super Smash Brothers Brawl (I be rocking the Dedede in it), I was wondering what'd it be like to see these two characters in a Co Op Adventure Game.

I have two ideas that come to mind:

1. A side scrolling 2D game for hand helds, preferrably the DS, and switch between Mario and Sonic characters after achieving specific events, or switch between them by using a button. The second option would be a psuedo-Sonic Heroes kind of take, switching between the characters to perform specific tasks.

2. A 3D game with qualities similar to Super Mario 64; the game could be played by switching between Sonic and Mario by going to another room, or even split screen with another controller. Wii Exclusive of course.

I'm not sure how the specifics of the game are though, but I'm pretty sure being the fanboy that I am, I'd buy this reguardless of the quality of the game.

Any opinions or suggestions that would make this game better would be highly appreciated.

Question, other than fixing a pipe and swimming, what can Mario do that Sonic actually would need him for?

It's an idea with potential, but I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be of the best quality, unless it were put together by fans a la Super Street Fighter II HD Remix. This is Nintendo and Sega we're talking about here. They know their fanbase well enough to realize that if they put Sonic and Mario in an action game together, it'd sell like hotcakes regardless of quality.

Mario can use his "Suit Power": Fire Flowers(fire), Feather(flying), etc. Also I think that the plumber could wield a hammer like he did in his RPG, could be useful for clearing paths and such.

If you ask me, I don't think it's a matter of 'if' they make this game.

I firmly believe it's a matter of 'when'.

Though the reasons you put out are correct in a matter of 'why' they would make this game.

The suit powers make sense, but the hammer for path clearance, not so much. Sonic's always been able to bust through a wall with a good spin dash. Though it must hurt like hell....

Yea, okay, hammer works. xD

One thing I also got from the idea of Mario's "Suit Power"

Could we really be so harsh on Sonic for becoming a Werehog, Wolf Hog, or whatever they are calling him, when we've seen everyone's favorite moustached plumber clad in a Bee suit exploring the vast ocean of space?

Yeah, that's probably true. I think if they really put some effort into it, or better yet, put it in the hands of a proven development team like they did with Sonic and the Dark Brotherhood, it would really be enjoyable. Unfortunately, I just don't see that happening. More likely we're going to get something that's mediocre at best, yet tops the sales charts inside a week.

It's a good idea but I'm all for the 'annihilate Sonic' argument. I think Mario still has a tiny bit of juice in him though.

Sonic still has a lot of hidden potential in him. Mario only seems lucrative because he's been in almost every genre of game, showing he's capable of handleing himself in those situations.

Sonic could easily follow the same path as Mario, or atleast aspire to be in many other types of games. They do need to stop making Sonic characters though, that's a given.

Sonic himself, I don't want to see die.

@Space Spoons: That's what is to be expected, clearly. But if they keep making games for Sonic, I think atleast ONE of them will be good.

jumping. other than running really fast what does mario need sonic for ;]
Sonic has a variety of different uses, especially his ability to use Chaos Control. Also he has a natural fighting capabilites, which I think may even surpass Mario's skills.

Mario definetly has A LOT of different skills, but I see him as a jack of all trades but a master of none.

I actually hate Sonics best known games though, which is a little odd. I really enjoyed the very first ones on master-system but didn't see much in the Megadrive Sonic games. After that, I pretty much hated all of them except Sonic 3D :p So I started disliking his games pretty early on.

Mario and Sonic have both been in a ton of crappy games but I just think it ruins Sonics rep whereas it doesn't really seem to be affecting Mario.

I think the reason mario doesn't hasn't died yet is because most of his games are actually good or decent at anyrate.

Thats a great idea! You can switch to Sonic for avoiding traps and racing against time with his speed, and Mario can blow up shit with fire or do big jumps with his cape or something. Both of them will have strengths and weaknesses against different enemys and you can have power-ups that could effect them differently too.

What happens if you get one killed, will he be replaced by the other? When you think about it, it's kind of like Donkey Kong Country with Diddy and Donkey Kong and their different abilities.

Thats an interesting point about being killed actually, and it could also make for a good co-op game. Although saying that whoever is Mario would have a hard time keeping up with sonic...

As a game idea it has a lot of potential, but with the recent butcherings of every sonic game in 3D (Besides Sonic Adventure on dreamcast), you really can't let anyone who worked on either of those games get their hands on it. Ultimately it could be a really could game, or as baggyn said, it could be a pile of crap aimed at two crowds if the wrong people make it.

I hate Clone Sonic, I don't want any more games with the annoying fuckwit in... I want the 90s Sonic back...

If you're wondering, this is Clone Sonic:

And this is 90s Sonic:

If they made a side-scroller with no voices or gimmicks then that I would play.

Fly, breathe fire, survive in a vacuum, appear in games that aren't complete shit.
