Is it just me... How far do you agree that the only good game in the Call of Duty franchise (gameplay wise) was the first. I mean during firefights you actually had to keep your head down, and the enemies targeted your AI team-mates rather than focusing their entire attention on you as if you had a bullseye painted on your helmet. Also the quake engine with WWII weapons paired with excellent map design made the multiplayer experience a thing of beauty, proper team advances, camping because you had too etc.
To me CoD4, although well executed and good in its own right opened a whole world of alienated solo singleplayer in which your team-mates seemed to just be wet characters in no real danger, and don't get me started on the multiplayer =P I'm not saying that the CoD pre modern warfare is Bad, I'm just saying that imho they threw the best parts out of the window.
Those are just my thoughts, how far do you agree/disagree? :)

You only have to replay a CoD level a few times to see how shallow and false the gameplay really is.

The Safehouse Mission is my favorite because it is slightly non-linear, but it also displays how contrived the game really is. Each of those little huts has hundreds of enemies inside it, who all see you through walls and fire entire magazines right into your clueless AI companions. Once you so much as set foot in the basement though, your teammates clear everything for you. And the air support is useless because anyone killed by the chopper will be replaced in a matter of moments. They don't even stop firing at you to take cover from the autocannon and rockets. Half a dozen AI will line a flimsy wooden fence, making the most suicidal position on the battlefield a fortress, so that the most logical tactics will be derailed by the suicidal bravery of respawning lemmings.

And this is my favorite mission.

1 - It is never just you.

2 - I never played the first Call of Duty. I joined the series at CoD4:MW, and have played every one from then on. I don't really have a favourite though, overall. I can say that I like Blops the least, though not because I actually dislike it, more that it didn't leave as much of an impression on me.

CoD 4 for me, is the best in the series story wise, it wasn't a Michael Bay movie in disguise like MW 2.

Plus, I'm a sucker for S.A.S. play time, considering that the vast majority of my gaming experience has had an American accent.

I have the first CoD on 360 Arcade. I fucking hate it. Fiendly AI is just as useless, and sometimes even more useless, than AI in CoD4/WaW/MW2/Blops. The missions are boring, linear shooters one step away from being a rail shooter and not even as fractionally fun. Some missions don't even depend on skill/strategy, but rather luck, i.e. the suicidal charges in the American campaign.

The only things I did like were the lean feature, select-fire for guns, and ability to only use weapon at a time.

I was literally just playing Modern Warfare 2, like, 5 minutes ago. Trust me, you have to keep your head down in combat and the enemies target your AI squad mates all the time.

It's called hyperbole, and it's a totally acceptable use of the english language. Get over it and stop being so literal.

I've played CoD 4,Modern Warfare,Modern Warfare 2,and Black Ops. They all felt the same, and it took a lot of dragging on to get me to play the campaign. CoD games bore me,I try them but always end up selling them. Maybe it's because I'm more of a Halo guy...

I know full well what hyperbole is, I was merely commenting on the likelihood that he will find, in this thread, someone who agrees with him.

i played COD finest hour and loved it, COD big red one and loved it, skipped number 3, played 4 and LIKED it, WAW had a fun campaign but not addicting, and the last 2 were just plain shit in both game play and story.

ive just given up on the series and switched to battlefield since they actually try and improve the gameplay and story instead of re skinning the whole thing and saying its brand new.

CoD2 is the best of the series, IMO. I really think they should stop making them now. Never gonna happen though.

I honestly hate the whole series except for the single player component of CoD 4. Which actually deconstructed FPS games in the ending. too bad no fans of the game noticed this since everyone I know who loves the game only plays online.
And cue the multitude of people calling you out for saying "Am I the only one"
word of advice: Some people here REALLY hate that.

CoD 4 was my favourite because the multiplayer was so addictive, campaign was good at times, but often so frustrating, especially on veteran. [sub]fucking grenade spam[/sub]
