Yeah yeah yeah, harp on me for waiting so long to watch this show. After that thread about whether or not people on the Escapist disliked anime, I decided to go out on a limb and watch a show I'd never heard of before. So I picked Code Geass, and colour me surprised.

Decent enough animation for an anime series, above average English voice acting (Cornelia's VA is incredible), not too much fanservice, and a very intriguing plot. Its the Giant Mecha genre mixed with intrigue and American-British evil dudes. Next to no annoying facefaults or flash backgrounds. And Loyd the mad scientist is hilarious.

So far so good.

And then I watch a scene of a teenage humping the side of a table while a blind girl is coming into the room. Just out of nowhere. Sure it is hinted at that Nina wants to meet Euphemia, but it did not imply that. The strange editing of the scene into an otherwise interesting episode was just.... weird.

But anyways, positive thinking. I like the Mech designs, and there way of justifying them outstripping tanks on the battlefield with their mega roller skates. I also like how well it flows, there is no padding at all, and it doesn't stop the show from having a ton of robot fights.

So, be happy anime fans of The Escapist. You got somebody to think outside the box and try something new. Apart from the dry humping though, you can keep that.

Yeah, Nina's just silly like that.

I wish I had more to say, but Code Geass is like 3 years old by now, and alot has happened since then.

Like, we have a black president, man.

Of COURSE the english voice acting is above average. It has Johnny Yong Bosch as Lelouche! And he is awesome!

Glad that you're enjoying it though. Just finished rewatching it myself.

Yeeeaaaaaah. I was late to the game on Code Geass, as well, and was also weirded out by that scene. Apparently it became a bit of a meme while the show was coming out. They named the unfortunate piece of furniture "Table-kun."

It does get implied. Probably not properly, but it is implied, especially in the second season.

I'm still working through the first season. I just finished watching "Shirley at Gunpoint", and I want to finish up in the next few days.

I'm a little worried when I get to R2. According to opinions, it either goes off the deepend, or is as good as the first season.

Loved the show. I have no idea what scene you're talking about. I can't remember anything even remotely like that. Are you sure you're watching it from a good site? It's still possible that I just missed it, but it seems like a scene I would have remembered.

Also Geass is a very good series, I just that one day I can watch a mecha series where one of the major plot point isn't 'War is bad'.

People do not appreciate R2 as they appreciate R1.

I found it just as enjoyable, but my opinion means fuck all compared to the vast majority.

Well, it was very, very dark.

This little scene.

Just.... out of nowhere, right in the middle of the episode. I want to see what Lelouche is doing, not watching the psychotic lesbian stalker have sex with furniture.

I followed the link to Code MENT, and a few hops later, I found this, which has me laughing my ass off.

Chess does not work that way!

A lot of ridiculous stuff happens, but the feel of the second season isn't all that different, if I recall. This show is not as good as some people make it out to be, but it probably was the best anime of its kind on American TV when it came out. I recommend enjoying the ride and don't hang your hopes on it turning out how you want. But if you need something to hold on to...

this isn't the worst spoiler, but it does reveal information about conditions after the very end of the show. So don't say I didn't warn you!
Kallen doesn't die. There's no particular reason that she would, except that this show is a bastard, but yes, she survives.

Code Geass is decent enough. Personally I thought it was a bit on the flashy side. I used to think it had too much fanservice, but then I watched Highschool of the Dead.

Nice to hear that you expanded your horizons though.

TEAM DEATHMATCH!

Also, Gurren Laggan isn't really a "war is bad" show.

Anyway, I liked it, I guess things get a little crazy in R2 but I came to expect. Honestly the series is filled with a sort of melodramatic flair that prepares you for anything, so I never really got the apparent drop in quality that R2 supposedly brings. Also, the ending is brilliant. I need to get the rest of the DVD's, only have the first 9 episodes...

I hate shows with the 'smart hero' and then give them a superhero tool that they have to never really have to think things through because they have the arbitrary ace in the hole.
