I'm afraid I've only heard one of their songs.

Three guesses as to which one it is.
Either Welcome Home or Ten Speed of Gods Blood and Burial, both for Rock Band which I'm geussing where most of their fans come from. I looked up some of their videos after playing it and I love em', they're like Rush with their epic sci-fi stories and vocal styles.
It's Welcome Home, and I did not learn it from Rock Band. I sniffed it out after seeing the trailer for 9.

I like a few of their songs. The thing is that everything that I want from them I can get from At the Drive-In who I consider vastly better.
Coheed = A few songs I like < AtDI = I love every song they've written.

I personally don't like them at all. I went to see them, Trivium and Slipknot in the All Hope is Gone Tour, and even the fine folks at the Golden Hammer agreed with me. Trivium got the crowd to mosh and got them ready, and that was with a half hour performance. And then Coheed and Cambria came up, during Welcome Home some people bobbed their heads for a little bit. Before the song was even over, people just watched and stood. I actually watched half the crowd leave to gp get drinks and stuff, and then they came back and chatted. It was just like a bar with music in the background, but there were no tables. Claudio Sanchez even did that solo behind his head and no one even really cared.
They sound good, albeit really repetitive, but they're not good enough to travel with real bands like Trivium and Slipknot.
Seriously, it's sad that the OPENING band got the crowd more pumped than one of the headlining bands.

I agree, they should do more shows with fake bands like Russian Circles, so that I could see them again without subjecting myself to Slipknot.

Lol.
Slipknots not that bad, but I can't stand the fucking slipknot fans. Any one who's happy to be called a maggot really shouldn't be allowed outside.

Never was a huge fan, but they're... OK?

At the very least, "Good Eye Sniper" was entertaining, but that's about it.

To be blunt: I don't like their music, and I've had bad experiences with their fans

To elaborate: Their music grates on me on me to begin with. Then, one summer I worked with some guys who were obsessed. They listened to In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth (I believe that's the name of the album) over and over all summer long. If I complained, I had to endure a torrent of verbal abuse about how I "couldn't appreciate good music" and such.

I don't care for them, but I do have a slightly funny story regarding how I came to first hear their music.

I spent more than a year deployed to Iraq, and during that time I ended up with a lot of down time where I was just waiting for something to happen. In my entire life up until that point, I had never owned more than a dozen music albums, but something about the combination of lack of anything to do, a large amount of income that was difficult to expend and the fact that Amazon will ship to a war zone meant that my music collection quickly skyrocketed.

During the waning days of my deployment, my job complete and passed on to the next poor sap, I was sitting in a tent playing Dawn of War on my laptop while listening to the Dropkick Murphys album "Blackout". One fellow in the tent struck up a conversation regarding my taste in music, and he seemed to appreciate the particular sounds of that Boston punk band. He suggested that I would probably also like Coheed and Cambria, because it was quite similar. He also noted that their latest album was on sale at the post exchange (the PX carried a handful of the most popular albums in the states).

Since I had been on something of a journey of musical discovery, and the guy at least seemed to share my tastes in music, I decided I would investigate his offer and picked up the album a few hours later.

As I listened to the opening tracks I grew increasingly distresssed. Not only did I not like the band, it shared no connection with the music style of the Dropkick Murphys. Unfortunately, I was never able to determine if it was some sort of cruel prank or just stupidity that lead to the suggestion, as the guy had already departed the tent for good by the time I found out just how badly I had been misdirected.

coheed are great, Their first tour of Australia was great (just after good apollo came out)
The girlfriend of the time and i waited at the venue a few hours early so we could get to the front and it payed off, the venue only had one entry and when the band rocked up for sound check, they invited us down to hang out :D

They were tolerable until Claudio became an arrogant douche who thinks the rest of the band has to revolve around him.

Oh, and their music's quality started dwindling with each album release.

I can't really stand their music but I do have a little fun fact. Apparently the lead singer came from a town right by mine and one of my friends used to see him around...apparently he's a bit of a douche but hey I never met him.
