This one is for the collectors out there...

Let's say you are a figure collector and you've just come across something you wish to add to your collection. You purchase it and it arrives a week later...

Do you remove the figure from the package to pose on a shelf or in a case or do you display the figure without removing it from it's original package?

It depends, if the figure comes in the same plastic wrapping, that your common action figure would come in. Then I would take it out and place it on the shelf.

Or some collectable figures come in those cool glass cases, so if it comes like that, then I'll leave it in.

Bah. The only reason toys are worth more when they are in the packaging is that consumers loved the toys so much they are now willing to pay out the wazoo for the few that remain in their packaging. Items that are sold to remain in packaging forever; I just don't see the appeal.

I would open em, cause I never would sell them anyways. I like collecting things. (I do it in games more though, like Morrowind)

o_O I need my eyes checking. I thought the title said 'Coming: in our bed?'

Anyway, I got a Vincent Valentine doll and took it out it's case, but it looks a bit... stoned? so it's not a genuine one.
I tried sitting him down and he snapped in two ): I was so sad.

IDK I don't really collect figures although I do have a set of Star Trek Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles I found on Ebay and I could resist buying them. They're still in the original packaging and I've been debating whether I should take them out to display them or leave them as is.

Surely the only reason anyone ever collects anything is so that they can sell the collection for thousands more than the collection should be rightfully worth in the eyes of anyone else?

If not, what's the point?

In which case, surely an unopened box is of more value and better?

I have an Aeris figure (Crisis Core version, I'd kill for the original FF7 one though) that I bought at an anime convention in June. I haven't removed it from its packaging (thinking I'd re-sell it one day if it were ever worth anything), but after reading this thread I'm thinking of doing it. I would just hate to accidently damage or dirty it somehow once I've opened it.

I have a friend who has a real FF10 Tidus figure she's taken out of the packing, but she has 2 Inuyasha figures she's kept in their original packaging. Maybe those are worth more?

It depends how much I collected them. If it was for my own personal financial gain then no I wouldn't open the box, the item would lose its value.

If I collected it for my own enjoyment then I probably would open it, unless the packaging was part of the reason why I collected it.

I thought I was the only one that made sure I had at least one of every kind of armor, food, etc sitting around "in case"

I collect video games, and I have several that have never been opened and I never will open them. Mostly cause I also have a copy if the game opened.

Then again I just picked up about 500 new games today at the goodwill. They had a huge box full of NES, SEGA, SNES, N64, and PS1 games that where donated and they never bothered to sort or place on the shelves. I bought them all. So it is not like I a actually get them to play anymore.

Sorry, I don't collect figures and if I did, I see no point in keeping it in the box.

I tried it once and I couldn't last 3 days. It was maddening.

Remove the packaging and place it somewhere fitting, since I'll almost definitely never plan on selling it. Although the only thing I'd really collect would be historical relics, and I'm not sure how much packaging goes into those..

Depends on the value of the item. If it is a mint condition item that is worth a ton, then no. But if it is lower level of item, then probably.

I collect figurines. I'm...pathetically addicted. xD
But I always take them out of the package and display them. I have no intention of selling them anyways, but I still keep the boxes.

I would remove the package and find a nice place to set them up. Packaging is just not something nice to look at in my opinion, and I'm not the type of person who's going to keep it to resell at a later date.

If I want to keep them in the package, I better than keep it at the store. Makes no sense to buy something and not really 'use' it. It's like buying a nice suit but keeping it forever inside your wardrobe gathering dust.

RIP! RIP THAT BOX LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW!!! *can't wait for her Naked Snake and Boss figures to arrive so then she can feel all the soft and smooth curves of them with her fingers*
