I still love my F:NV collector's edition. Those cards were pretty nifty and the platinum chip replica (made of plastic, sadly) is a nice good luck charm.

Got the CE of ME3, art book, soundtrack, and From Ashes were well worth the extra $20. And it looks nicer.

I have only gotten one CE ever, and thats only because it was Lord of the Rings.

"i don't always buy collectors editions, but when I do, I prefer lord of the rings."

I normally don't buy them, but the items I find worthwhile are maps, posters, and soundtracks, definitely soundtracks.
The only one I really got was a used Bioshock CE for $10, and though I didn't get a figurine, I got the game, the behind the scenes DVD, and a soundtrack!
So basically, I will get them when they become way cheaper than their original price.

I can get at least 10 games for the price of one collectors edition, so no way I'd ever get one. The only one I ever bought I ended up not doing much with the extras, so that was kind of dumb.

I never opened the cards or the chips but I did read the crap out of the little book that offered some backstory which I thought was a very nice touch.

There is a good reason I have a statue of noble team on top of my TV and a Master Chief helmet on top of the stereo. Also there is a Halsey Journal wrapped in the plastic it came with in the case next to the stereo for when loading times suck ass.

I only have the collectors edition of Killzone 3, which my boss wanted out of the store, so he put it on sale for 20$. With my staff discount I got it for 15$.

I usually wouldn't buy a collectors edition however, as I see them as huge wastes of money.

Halo: Reach is the favourite CE I own, was a great buy with what it came with. Gears of War 3 I spent £100 on and was excellent too. Wish they were all as good, I'd buy them every time.

I have to hand it to Halo: Reach, it was the best damn Legendary edition anything I have ever seen.

1) Do you like collector's editions or do you find them to be a waste of money?
I like Limited/Collector/Special/Whatthefuckever Editions because you usually get a nice smattering of goodies for the extra $10/$20/$30 compared to the original game. Not all are like this of course, but generally speaking they're usually worth the extra dosh, in my experience at least.

2) What is the best/worst CE you know about and/or own.
Best? I'd say it's a tie between Skyrim, Mortal Kombat, and Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. I think the statue of Alduin was very well done and detailed (be careful when you grab it though, you'll cut yourself), not to mention the huge artbook that came with it and the "Making of" DVD that was packaged along with the game itself. Well worth the $100(US) I'd say.

Mortal Kombat was quite nice. For $100, you got the core game, an art book, vouchers for 2 throwback outfits for the "ninja" (Ermac and Reptile in that particular case if memory serves), a voucher for a "Scorpion suit" for your avatar (as I copped the 360 version), and 2 very lovingly-crafted and detailed bookends featuring Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

The core game stands alone quite nicely, and, fuck everyone else, MK was a finely crafted game from the characters to the story (mostly... at least it made sense for once) to the gameplay itself, even if it was "rebalanced" to hell and back. The game was bursting with content and, I think, was well-deserving of the high marks and awards it received. The artbook, while small in dimensions, also offered lovely artwork as well a glimpse at the creative process as to how the team remade such iconic characters and venues like the Dead Pool, Shang Tsung's courtyard and everyone's favorite, the Pit. All in all, it was a nice bit a swag for a decent price.

For Blazblue: Calamity Trigger, it came with the core game, plus a DVD with a nice load of extras: match videos between top players, and a tutorial DVD that carefully explained the ins and outs of each character so you could use them effectively to increase sodium levels. The LE here also dropped a 2-disc soundtrack featuring character themes, rivalry themes (special songs that played when certain characters fought), and a small collection of remixes made by underground hip-hop producer Oh No [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oh_No_%28musician%29]. The best part? It was all of $50 at launch.

The worst is gonna be Saints Row the Third, definitely. For $100, you got the core game and a pair of SE headphones that let you talk in auto-tune like the resident pimp Zimos. Thing was, the headphones are dick on a hot dog bun, and didn't work unless you did some extra fine-tuning that you had to look for on the website itself since the SE didn't come with the proper instructions. Long and short, I could've gotten just the core game itself and not missed anything.

So there you have it. Hopefully you've learned a little bit about my favorite (and not-so) CEs and maybe even a little bit about yourself.

And am a sucker for art books. Soul Calibur V, Dark Souls, you name it, if it's got an art book, I want it.
Agreed. I shelled out $35(US) for the SE ME Strategy Guide that came with a rather sizable artbook. The strategy guide was okay (especially since it was made by Prima), but the artbook was fantastic. Hell, the artbook alone might've been worth the $35 I dropped on it.

Yeah it seemed Bungie learned from Halo 3's helmet mess and went all out.

The only three I have any ownership of are Mass Effect 3, Fable 3 and Perfect Dark Zero. But, for all of them, I'm missing big chunks of them. For ME3, it's the DLC (boyfriend decided to take those), Fable 3 it's the game & game case (younger brother decided I didn't need it anymore, so he stole it and sold it) and for PDZ it's the bonus disk.

I for one don't care too much about collectors editions, but I did get Halo: Reach limited edition by an interesting turn of events. It's actually quite a story. When I went to get an xbox over the summer, I got codblops and Madden NFL 11 with it. However, my brother and I wanted another game. We wanted LA Noire but the guy working at the gamestop told our mom about "incredibly graphic scenes". After that we decided on MW2 and the guy used the same excuse. It finally ended when we settled on Halo:Reach which he couldn't understand the M rating for either. Anyway, as an added bonus, because we couldn't get the two games, the employee was actually incredibly nice and gave us a new copy of the limited edition even for the price of a used regular, which is what we were originally going to get.

I feel most collectors editions are a total waste of cash. However I do give props to the Dead Space 2 Collectors Edition which comes with Dead Space 2, Dead Space Extraction, Dead Space Ignition, Rivet Gun Voucher, Unitology Armor Voucher, The Soundtrack, Lithograph, and a miniature replica of the Plasma Cutter. So for 80 bucks you get three games, DLC, and memorabilia.

Oh, and like many others I'm a huge sucker for art books. REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY want the P4 visual art book.

I like Collector's Editions and if a game I want has a CE available I will usually pre-order/buy it. The best CE I have is The Witcher 2 CE. The worst CE I have is the Skyrim CE because it lacked a soundtrack. Not the game, the CE.
