You're doing it wrong.

People with dark complexions can get away with heavily saturated colors that tend to drown out paler people. The lack of contrast is about as visually exciting as plain oatmeal.

Let me elaborate a little. I have dark features, but a fair complexion. So I have a natural contrast already in that regard, which I call further attention to by wearing dark colors.

All else aside, my girlfriend really likes me in darker colors. So I'll take that as I'm doing something right.

i generally wear white or khaki shorts in the summer, and jeans in the other months. i usually wear blue shirts (mostly polos), and i very rarely wear bright colours.

The only casual trousers I have are jeans, and 50+% of my T-shirts are blue. Guess what colour I usually wear? I have quite a few white tops as well, and a few other random ones like green or red (even a yellow!) but blue is by far my most common colour. It's a calming non-offensive colour so you can wear it anytime. I think I always look good in blue, white or black, other colours depend on my mood.
