I'm not trying to start some kind of flame war here

obviously this is coming from that "BUY AMERICAN" article...

reason is (as Ive probably said multiple times) Ive just started getting more or less into comics..unlike games however I dont really know/have a good Idea of the industry/what its like/how its doing and that kind of stuff,

manga..I have never read before and to be completly honest theres somthing about that stuff I find off putting...however Im curious because peopel mentioned it has more variety than american comics (is that true?)

and related to that I once found this cool looking manga book in a used bookstore which I "think" was a seaquel to a manga called "ghost in the shell"..I think of heard of "ghost in the shell" if ayone knows is it worth reading? and...is it one book? several books? this stuff gets confusing

I tend to like manga and anime more than western comics and superhero shows. I feel like it's much more...diverse, and definitely more aesthetically appealing. I've never liked the way people are drawn in most western comics. They're all so blocky and lumpy, and the faces tend to look awkward to me. The look of anime and manga feels more unified and planned to me.

Comic Easily, as to why? Well Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrisson, Warren Ellis, Mark Millar and Garth Ennis. They're possibly the most creative people I've come across working today in any medium. And that's without going into the Artist and the lesser series.

Seriously Mange may be more popular and it's industry isn argueable healthier but if anyone tries to tell you it's definitively better or more original, then they're just plain wrong.

Im currently reading transmetropolitan..and I picked up "Ocean" (except I have 5/6 issues..which was silly of me because now buying the tradepaperback would be exssesive)

Ever since I was a kid I had very little interest in comic books or anything superhero related, and seeing how I'm an anime/ manga fan, well, my answer's pretty obvious.

I used to prefer manga but I haven't read any in ages so I probably prefer comic books right now. I guess one of the main advantages of manga is that it has one line of continuity that you can start whenever you want, whereas comic book continuity is all over the damn place.

To quote Moviebob: 'COMICS. ARE. WEIRD!'

I have zero interest in superheros and dark and gritty things and I like to have a coherent story. Guess what I prefer. Then again I never read that many American comics because all I find is those kinds. If you know any that aren't that and have one timeline I'll give it a try.

Yes he is. I kind of have a bias, but yes I love Spawn. The reason I love Spawn is because I used to love love love(seriously) Batman, and Spawn is like Batman, but Spawn has always been much more dark and serious. So imagine Batman, but much more mature/depressing/dark/serious/violent/anti-hero. If Batman is a hero, then Spawn is a anti-hero.

umm...the batman I liked as a kid wasn't the comics, it was this.... While I haven't read it, I wasn't referring to Batman comics like the Killing Joke (I really wish Alan Moore would write some Spawn comics) nor was I comparing the Batman in comics that we have now. To give you a better idea, Spawn didn't start off with a Adam West period, it was always like kind of heavy. This [http://spawn.wikia.com/wiki/Spawn] can better describe Spawn than I can.

A couple things I forgot to mention, if you want something more light in its theme....
The Adventures of Spawn is a comic series, so here [http://www.spawn.com/features/series30/comic/] is the link to the series if your interested, it looks much more upbeat, :D .
lol I just looked and to my surprise there actually is a Japanese comic version of Spawn. >_<
It is called Shadows of Spawn

Honestly while I think American comics have there merits at times with full colour panels and nice books you can get. I think manga is better because there is just so much more variety in genre as well as design most American comics are superhero and have a similar look and feel while manga looks and feels however will best suits the story.

I find American comics have become less about a good story and more about what will sell hence the lack of new characters and continuity. With manga there is a clear start and end there is no guessing hoping in randomly you just pick up number one simple as that, with american comics they just keep reusing the same old characters and writting short stories that end the same way never quite going anywhere nobody ever really changing and if they do it all inevitably goes back to how it was.

In other words Manga is better written because it is about the story while American comics while have enjoyable stories there is a lack of variety as well as change make the timelines retarded and literally make no sense with writers taking what sell into higher priority than whats well written.

Also just so people know I am not just hating I do read both and in all honesty been into american comics more than manga as of late even.

I like both, can't I just like both! Why can't I like Naoki Urasawa and Alan Moore equally? The same goes for Goku and Batman.

I tend to like both, though I don't tend to like superhero based comics. I dunno, something about them has never appealed to me too strongly. Personal taste I believe. But I am a fan of Bryan Lee O Malley(Scott Pilgrim and Lost at Sea), Marjane Satrapi(Persepolis), the duo Alessandro Barbucci and Barbara Canepa(W.I.T.C.H. and SkyDoll), and the duo of Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegner(Atomic Robo). All of which are comic books, or at least graphic novels.

I admit I haven't been too big on manga lately, mostly due to me becoming picky about what series I will pick up. Since starting college I have to be choosier with how I spend my free time so I want to make sure I don't waste it on something I don't like. But I do enjoy a good manga when I find one. I've enjoyed Yu Yu Hakusho, Shaman King, Letter Bee/Tegami Bachi, and XXXHolic.

Oh and I like web comics too if that counts for anything. Again: I'm picky about which ones I read.

Edit: I almost forgot! Jeff Smith's series 'Bone' is another favorite.

theres somthing about "spawn" and "kid freindly" that sound hilariously out of place in the same sentence :p, but anyway thanks for the suggestion, though reading comics personally feels much better when its a physical copy

unrelated but today I picked up "Bite club" lesbian Vampires and graphic violence FTW! (Im assume it has graphic violence)

Comic Easily, as to why? Well Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrisson, Warren Ellis, Mark Millar and Garth Ennis. They're possibly the most creative people I've come across working today in any medium. And that's without going into the Artist and the lesser series.
This pretty much. Plus Brian K. Vaughan, Ed Brubaker, Brian Azzarello and so many more. To be honest though I think Mark Millar peaked on Ultimates 1 and 2.

Really? I thought that Wanted and Kick-Ass were two of the best comics of the past decade and he's also got a fucking ton of original projects coming up some of which ought to be good.
