Oh and Crossed yo, fucking crossed :) i am not linking ANY crossed pictures or comics here...

Probably the most sick nasty comics you will ever read rife with gore, violence and nudity, it doesn't pull it's punches but my god if it isn't good.
although I REALLY like Ennis's work (well granted Ive only read preacher and the Boys)

I'm not sure I could stomach crossed...it sounds to dark for me
Yeah it's pitch black dark, really nasty stuff but i dunno i find it good to read, to have a comic turn your stomach i think is something amazing and tell a decent story to boot! The bit that i find the most intriguing is more often than not the non crossed humans are more nasty than the crossed themselves.

Fables. Fables basically chronicles the struggles of a group of fairy-tale characters trying to survive in the real world. While it sounds like your atypical fractured fairy-tale story, it is not. It is so much more. Really, it kicks ass.
Until it hits the big Fables Crossover. Yeesh, Theres jumping the shark and then theres... whatever the hell this was meant to be.

Let's get some Top Shelf comics up in this *****!

Clumsy [http://www.comixology.com/Clumsy/comics-series/7224], Unlikely [http://www.comixology.com/Unlikely/comics-series/7483] and Any Easy Intimacy [http://www.comixology.com/AEIOU-or-Any-Easy-Intimacy/comics-series/7803] - All by Jeff Brown, chronicling his experiences with past girlfriends.

Far Arden [http://www.comixology.com/Far-Arden/comics-series/7807] - by Kevin Cannon. A seafaring adventure tale about a crusty old sea dog searching for a legendary mythical island.

Double Barrel [http://www.comixology.com/Double-Barrel/comics-series/8336] - by Kevin Cannon/Zander Cannon. A monthly anthology book containing two stories; Crater XV, the sequel to Far Arden and Heck, a story about a washed up high-school football star who starts his own business descending into Hell to contact the dead relatives of clients.

Essex County [http://www.comixology.com/Essex-County/comics-series/7037] - by Jeff Lemire. A collection of tales surrounding the people who live in a rural Canadian farmland area.

Underwater Welder [http://www.comixology.com/Underwater-Welder/comics-series/8362] - by Jeff Lemire. This is a hard one to describe (even vaguely) without spoilers, whilst still having it sound interesting. Suffice to say it's a great book though. Lemire is great at tugging on peoples heartstrings.

Wizzywig [http://www.comixology.com/Wizzywig/comics-series/8219] - by Ed Piskor. A story set in the times of the early internet and the early advances of electronic hacking.

Yeah, the series hasn't been the same since. Really, ever since the beginning of the Mr. Dark ark, the series has had bit of a dip in quality. And the ending to that ark was anticlimactic as all hell. :\

What about Lucifer? - Yahweh abdicates his throne, leaving Michael and Lucifer in charge of
creation. Heady Stuff

I'd also like to vote for Hellboy, The Boys, Preacher (blew me away), Hellblazer, 100 Bullets was ok, and the Allan Moore Swamp Thing.

The Walking Dead (first 3 compendiums; covers most of the biggest moments in the series)

Sin City (any of the first four volumes)

Runaways (a Marvel comic, but it's still fairly indie, and had some incredible plot twists)

I have no idea what happens after that, I found the crossover so offensively bad that I turned my back on it forever. Then again, I never really felt Fables was that good anyway.

Y: The Last Man is the best. Fables, Transmetropolitan, and Runaways all kick much much ass. Planetary and the Authority are good for superheroic stuff outside the Marvel/DC world. And correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone's said Scott Pilgrim yet, and I intend to correct that immediately. It's wonderful

Skullkickers, Chew, Hellblazer (technically DC but under the Vertigo imprint), Most of the things that have already been mentioned are worth looking into.
