Has Fred Basset mean mentioned? Does anyone know Fred Basset?

The premise is that its an ultra good taste comic about a basset hound (a dog) who gets into the kind of shenanigans that would make a 70 year old grandmother smile in appreciation but would, at best leave a normal person confused about what the hell the joke is.

I happen to have a paper from last week sitting here (cos my room is filthy. shh.) and I'll try and explain the strip.

Panel 1: Fred is looking at a bowl of dog food that belongs to his friend Jock (a black scottish terrier). Fred asks "You're not going to eat that, Jock?!"
Panel 2: Jock begins to eat the food. Fred says "There's no accounting for taste!"

This is not a joke. PROVE ME WRONG.

I loved that comic until I got a virus from their shitty website.

Also I think some people are getting worked up because they think the OP is getting worked up, when he was most likely just using hyperbole for the sake of humor.

But serious, Family Circus needs to die. Fuck their fucking happy family.

Wow...you weren't kidding. I found the one you were talking about:

...along with this "hilarious" gem:

...wtf? Is this supposed to appeal to elementary school kids? The author isn't even TRYING.

I'm a pretty far cry from a left-wing liberal (honestly, I think people like Michael Moore take themselves way too seriously) but I really quite like Doonesbury. Unlike most comics out there, it acknowledges the real world. Granted to appreciate its dry humor is akin to trying to get an acquired taste for very sharp white wine.

I think Doonesbury in recent years has become a little bit more balanced (Garry Trudeau sometimes bashes on Democrats and hipster culture). And if we're being completely honest, the Tea Partyers, Sarah Palin, and Glen Beck do make conservativism an easy target for satire (I'd bet you any money that they're easy game for South Park).

Beetle Bailey has outlived it's time. I stumbled upon an old book of them at a grandparent's house and they hadn't changed that much.

Only that they were against women in the military and against hippies. It has survived the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf wars and so far the Iraq. Lets treat it like a real veteran. Give the strip a medal and tell it that it has done its duty.

Red and Rover, there has never been a joke in that comic. Ever. I have been saying they should pull For Better or Worse for years. It's simply not ever funny, formula = Woman makes insightful observation, man or child makes simple minded or ignorant response, woman sits in last frame with bewildered look on face. I'm not even exaggerating go read one right now and tell me I'm wrong, I'll give you a sec...

See?

Chainsaw suit, Penny Arcade, and the Boondocks should appear in every newspaper in this fine nation.

Beetle Bailey remains relevant in my eyes only because every now and then Mort Walker can still print one like this:

I think it was very well done, not so heavy handed and still a little funny.

Doonesbury is awkward because it's often so mean spirited and it picks the hot topics of months
(or years) ago.

Tank McNamara. Mostly just because I don't like football.

Mary Worth. It's a soap opera comic strip. TV soap operas are dying, so should this.

Marmaduke. I'm a dog-lover, but this strip is just painfully unfunny.

The ones I enjoy: Dilbert, Beetle Bailey, Peanuts, Garfield, Blondie, Calvin and Hobbes, Hagar the Horrible

I'm with you all the way on Garfield. It's actually funnier without Garfield in it.

That what you meant?
That's good, making john even insaner than he already is.
Although I do kinda like Garfield.

I guess if you thought it was always bad, it's just not your thing. *shrugs* Very sad though...QC is probably my favorite webcomic of all time. I look forward to it every day!
It's your favorite comic? Very sad indeed. Who knows though; maybe it became tolerable after the first 600 comics. (I had insomnia and a friend said it was good, don't judge me!)
It is now no longer your favorite webcomic: http://www.smbc-comics.com/

Cyanide and Happiness. I used to love the series when the jokes were simple and innocent (relatively). Now the jokes either don't make sense or are extremely vulgar.

Most of them...

The only ones I still read are Dilbert and Foxtrot and even then I don't read regularly.

Occasionally they have some good comics, but for the most part they can't compare to the massive amount of web comics I read.

Mallard Fillmore.
It's an affront to anyone who value their intelligence.

The "comics" are consistently misogynist, anti-semitic...the list goes on.

Someone obviously likes the comics or they wouldn't be syndicated anymore.

Your have your opinion other people have theirs. I don't like a lot of the music that is popular these days, but I still understand that being popular means a lot of people do like them.

Besides the comics have to as inoffensive as possible. I also really doubt you are part of the news papers target audience.
It seems like a lot of comics are still around because their fan base is so large, not because they're 'good' or anything. Peanuts, Marmaduke, Dennis the Menace, etc.
Isn't Peanuts technically dead? I thought since the author died they are not making any more new ones. That's why there called "Classic Peanuts" now.

Also they are making a Marmaduke movie. Just saw the commercial.
