Since I was pretty young I was pretty fond of reading stuff.
I would sit in the corner of the playground and read whatever caught my fancy from the schools library
and be happy with that. (I would always get picked last for whatever the sport d´jour was so fuck them, right?)
I liked comics even then but the local shop only sold things like Conan, The Phantom and the likes and those followed a pretty specific formula so I grew kinda bored after a while.

Then one time i traveled to Oslo (about 3 hrs from where I lived) to visit my grandparents and discovered this shop called Avalon, and as it turned out, they had a huge variety of comics on sale.

I picked up "Preacher: Gone to Texas".

I don´t even know how to describe the feeling I got from reading that... Blew my mind it did!

Any one else had an experience like that? What´s your favorite comics?

Mine are (in no particular order):

Preacher (obviously)
Transmetropolitan
Hellblazer (and fuck hollywood for that abortion starring Keanu Reeves!)
Fables
Sandman (to an extent.)
The Punisher (I prefer the Ennis/Dillon ones)
Bone

V for Vendetta
Preacher
Rifle Brigade
Devlin Waugh (old 2000ad character) Was disqualified from the Olympics for steroid abuse in the flower arranging event and now works as a trouble shooter for the vatican in the Judge Dread Universe!

Sinister Dexter, again 2000ad Two wise cracking hitmen!

Charlie's war one of the bleakest violent and relentlessly realistic depictions of Trench Warfare ever published

Nextwave Hilarious superhero parody!

Only things that other people haven't mentioned:

-I'm quite fond of Lucifer. It's a spin-off of Sandman, and I rather prefer it in many ways -- it's less sprawling and has a more cohesive plot.
-Tales From the Bully Pulpit - Teddy Roosevelt and Edison travel through time and rescue green alien honeys from space Nazis.
-Marvel 1602 wasn't the greatest thing ever, but I quite enjoyed it.
-Hellboy - the art and aesthetic are fantastic.

Much of the Dread is a long meandering series of stories, I would see if I could get my hands on some trade paperbacks as you don't have my attic of 2000ad's dating back to when I was about ten and finishing about three years ago I think! I am 33 now by the way! Dread as a character is not the most interesting protagonist in that universe I much prefer the psi Judges and the Brit cit judge who wears a suit and mac as opposed to the usual body armour and law giver. May have to clamber up the loft ladded tomorrow to find out his name. No I don't it's Armitage! Just came to me!

The series where Dread is exiled into the radioactive wastelands is a great series.

Dread is the central character and the most iconic of the 2000ad pantheon but there are alot of more interesting characters in there. Like nemesis the Warlock, Tharg and his furture shocks, the original Rogue Trooper, The dark judges, Devlin Waugh, Strontium dog, Durham Red the list is endless.

If you can get any old Judge dread annuals from Ebay they usually have a good mix of one shot stories and hints to further reading!

Hope this is in some way helpful. I'm knocking on a bit so my memories are not as they used to be!

Watchmen... it's the only graphic novel I've read and it was incredible. It also helps the movie make sense!

That honor goes to the All-Star Batman comic. Before reading about "The Goddamn Batman", I was used to Batman talking without saying any obscenities. So, as soon as I saw that first word bubble, you could almost hear a window shatter in my mind.

Nioe to see there's another 2000Ad fan out there.

I'd like to add Nikolai Dante to that list.

As for great comics? Man don't get me started.

We3.
Ex Machina.
Y the last man.
Black Summer.
The leauge of extraordinary gentlemen (first two books anyway)
The Maxx.
The list goes on and on.

It DOES help the movie make sense doesn't it? Although its funny when I read it I never noticed all the political underlinings and whatever that was suppose to be in it

I'd have to say Green Lantern: Willworld just because it opened my mind to so many things, for example what if we're all just a dream? And whose dreaming us?

Also Promethea because that made me go "WWWHHHHHHOOOOOAAAAA!"

Well, Watchmen was extremely great though it was a bit spoilered for me since I saw the film first. And I have to say for some reason I tend to prefer the film version of Veidt's "bomb". A telekinetic monster? Strange... but an energy weapon resembling Dr. Manhattan seems great. For the rest of the story I pretty much prefer the comic.

And I liked Flash: Rebirth for the complete twist, nevertheless I was disappointed Barry Alan never actually came back like the title said. Fucking lying title!

The Death of Superman is simply brilliant.

Even if your not a Superman fan, you will enjoy it.

and if you are one, like me, you will love it.

The Walking Dead is my favourite, been reading that for about a year now and it's gotta be my favourite. Not really into superhero stuff.
