Suppose tis a good list to support and help parents understand what they dont want the children to be playing.

Good on them! Something in our support for once!

The Dragon Age - Braid combo was the only confusing bit on there.
Emphasis on story, I guess?

But otherwise, what a smart list! A good idea, implemented well!
I hope a few parents actually take heed of this! It's a great idea.
Have you ever played Dragon Age? The game in which you can drive a Mace through someone's jaw? You're honestly surprised it made the list?
No, he's surprised at Braid being the alternative. And I share his confusion. Braid and Dragon Age have very different forms of gameplay. VERY DIFFERENT.

I notice these two next to each other, GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony (Batman: Arkham Asylum)

And above was MW2/Bad compnay.

Ok BC and MW2 are the same kinda game... Batman and GTA are not...

Did they just call Batman gay?

Wouldn't Final Fantasy XII (or even an older Bioware game)have been a better alternative to Dragon Age than Braid?
Other than that, these people are shockingly aptly named Common Sense Media! How is it even possible that they could be reasonable?!
If they keep this sensibility up, they might go and restore my faith in Humanity. Blast it all!

Hey, if Frederick Whertham, the Jack Thompson of Comicbooks, said it, it must have some basis in fact, right?

It does seem to be sensible, but two things are fucking stupid:

1.) If someone is getting "the ballad of gay tony" they already have GTA 4, way to close the barn door after the criminals got out.
2.) If someone bought a kid Mirror's Edge instead of assassins creed 2, the parent would most likely be assassinated in the most horrific way possible by the kid (regardless of how young he/she is) for exposing them to Mirror's Edge.

Um.. L4D2 and Overlord 2? Uh.... no... Just um... no.
what are you saying...?

they obviously both have 2 in their name.
I don't know if that's true, we better take them into the labs for testing

For everyone who is bitching about "OMG THIS GAME ISN'T ANYTHING LIKE THAT GAME" can you shut up? I can't hear myself over you needless stupidity. The reason why common sense media put these games as substitutes is because some of those substitutes don't get as much advertising as say "Left 4 Dead 2" and "Assassins Creed 2" and they give parents a game that their kids can play that might resemble the original game.

If you don't like the substitutes, don't buy them you idiots. *sigh*

I'm very, very sorry, but...

[HEADING=2]Where the hell is latest Ratchet & Clank game on that list?![/HEADING]

It sure is more kid-friendly than Uncharted 2 or Arkham Asylum (Scarecrow sections, wink wink).

What did you expect? He walks around in a mask with his underpants over his trousers and beats up other sweaty muscular men, you know.

Back in my day the only thing that stopped us from going to movies at the cinema were tits, the showing of tits was the only mortal sin a movie could do to have children banned from the cinema. I still don`t comprehend what great evil is awakened in children at the sight of tits but hey I`m not the smartest guy around.

Back on topic, I think that these type of list severely sucks because it it spawned by the idiotic fear that bad shit is going to happen if u let little Joe see a fairly pretty reconstruction of the Renaissance period WITH BLOOD.

what parent would need a list of games to buy for their child instead of what their child asks for.
it should play out:
Little Jimmy: mum i want GTA for christmas
Mum: No, try again.
Little Jimmy: Um... Batman?

Jimmy is still happy, and probably not going to shoot some of his classmates.

I see no situation where this method doesn't solve the problem, making said list useless.

I don't think I've ever been as thankful that my gaming isn't restricted to what's 'recommended' by Common Sense Media until now. But it's a pretty nice effort, though.

There was one that I was wondering about. Surely, Demons Souls would give children nightmares...but replacing that with Uncharted 2. It's not scary, but it definitely doesn't seem like it's suitable for a younger audience.

"This, kids, is what we call sexual tension."

Yeah, but the violence in Infamous is incredibly cartoony. Even though Borderlands has a cartoony look, the type of violence they use makes more sense than shooting electricity out of your hands.

As for the L4D2 - Overlord 2. yeah, I don't see the connection there.
It's not the violence alone, it's the sentiment behind it. As far as I know (I haven't completed it yet, admittedly) any violence acts in Borderlands are commited for a good cause. I know there's the vault, but it seems like the characters do go out of their way to do good most of the time, whereas the violence evil Cole commits is entirely for self gratification, and on a wider scale.

I agree with the Demons Souls - Uncharted 2 thing as well. Drake is a fucking psychopath, I wouldn't want my kids using him as a role model.

It just seems kind of hypocritical that they're worried about violence corrupting the youth, but exposing them to the twisted morals of these protagonists is just dandy.

When will people learn that playing violent games doesn't automatically turn you into some sort of serial rapist and murderer Hitler clone? The first game I played was Doom fucking 2 when I was six and I loved it, but I also have yet to go out and kill somebody.
