I'd say Halo, but it isn't as bad as Call of Duty.
I've encountered many more 8 year old kids who scream "fag" at me in Call of Duty.

I'd also like to nominate many of the hardcore Valve fanboys.
sorry your point holds no water. you state in no way how valve fan boys ruined their games, and I assume were talking about multiplayer, other wise your just pulling stuff out of your ass because you feel like it.
The ones that I have such distaste for treat every game associated with Valve as the second coming. When the games they worship so much get criticism, the critic is clearly just an immature 14 year old with no sense of artistic value. I mean, he disagrees with them, so he's clearly an imbecile. They are also incredibly obnoxious and snobby towards non Valve games.
Granted, this isn't everyone, but attitudes like these still are incredibly annoying.
again, how does that ruin the game?

Having everyone and their dog telling me how god-like a game is doesn't really paint a good picture when I play it and find it underrated. When playing Half Life, I was incredibly disappointed compared to what everyone told me.

WOW, dear god, that game is the top of this list.

Cod is bearable, nobody takes it seriously and people who do can be muted.

But my 3-4 (I forget) year experience with wow had people go around killing everything so I couldn't get exp. Kicking me out of raids when I roll need on hunter loot (no, you don't need it, you're a mage, roll a need on the STAFF), elitist pricks and childish assholes, all in one game.

I was fine before Burning Crusade, then it wasn't too bad until a year later. I hated at that point. Everyone was a dick.

Can anyone really read through this thread and afterwards think that any ONE of these answers is really correct? If you can name a game, there's someone who thinks it has a terrible community.

"I hear the Peggle Community are a bunch of Assholes. And don't get me started on Minetards."

This is what drives me nuts. Comments like "I hate blah Fanboys" generally just means there a Fanboy of a different title or that is what their opposition would claim.

This is how people act. If you don't realize you are part of the problem and try to fix it, you just make it worse.

Gears of War 2 is real screwed up. Admittedly a lot of that is Epic's fault: they've failed miserably in the area of post-launch support of that game. But the fact that every freaking player takes advantage of all the exploits just makes the game miserable now. It's an awesome game, but the people are stupid.

Let me make something clear though: a crappy community does not make a game bad. No matter how overused cake jokes may get, Portal was amazing. No matter how many 13-year old fanboys swear constantly into the mic, Halo is still a great shooter. No matter how many people may get stuffy or pretentious about games like Braid, that does not in any way affect the quality of the game. I'm sick and tired of people saying a game sucks because of the online community, or it's terrible because the fans have made too big a deal of it. A good game is a good game, regardless of the stupidity of people.

Agreed. But, TBH, I don't really see much of a problem in the PC communities. On the vast majority of servers I've played on you see the good points all the time. Other players constantly complimenting each other on skillful maneuvers, jokingly egging each other (none of that childish crap you see elsewher), matches end with numerous plays stating good game, etc.

IDK, man . . . I took a break from MW for about 8 months, and just this last weekend decided to hop back on my usual haunt. It's a pretty bad-ass feeling that after 8 months you can jump into a 42 player match, recognize 1/3 of the players, and have them welcome you back as well. Your skills might get a little rusty after such a hiatus, but the comraderie doesn't.
In Modern Warfare 2 there are no servers so you have to deal with random players. As I said I run with a clan, really nice guys, part of the reason I still play. The banter is one of the best things about being a regular on a server

there we go, we have a winner! I really shouldn't have to goad you to get an opinion that is actually based on something in a thread that you would think require that automatically

Red Dead Redemption matchmaking. I got on, "oh this is kinda cool i might get some friends on wit-" *bang* Dead.
Then the same guy followed me to each spawn and continued to kill me again and again for no reason. Logged out and in, same guy, same situation. Tried again, different guy, same situation. Tried AGAIN, yup, killed by a different random on entering the game.
This reminded me of something.
Me and two friends were doing one of the online challenges and a random guy decided to kill me.
Now we decided not to stand for that so we hunted him down until he rage quit.

OT:In Halo Reach there is always one of those people who gets all bitchy if he doesn't get [insert power weapon/vehicle hear] he will take your shields down to nothing and take the weapon when you are inevitably killed.
The solution I have come across however is to just waste all the ammo in front of him. It usually upsets them a little.

You also shouldn't have to nag me to expand on each point when making rational inferences is clearly a viable option.
I mean honestly, after I explained to you why I found them annoying, it was pretty obvious how they ruined games unless you have the inference making abilities of a 4 year old.

L4D possibly..

Does the community not being able to afford mics count as a problem? Like seriously, it's a tenner, it'd be okay if it was a rare occurrence but I'd say the current ratio would be about 1:4

Which is just not good.
We dont get mics because of 4 year old squeeky voiced loud mouthed little bastards. If we have a mic, that means that we need to talk with them, and its just not worth the migraine those conversations give me.

EDIT: Just noticed that this post made me the devil...
Wonder if that means anything?
Yes, it means that only evil people hate children to the extent that most gamers do.

I kid, but what is it with all the hate for little kids who play online? Most PC gamers over a certain age started playing online before their voices changed, the only difference between then and now is that we didn't have mics back then. I know it's largely about screaming 9-year olds, but I've honestly run into more screaming adults than screaming children, and it's the adults that really bother me. I'm not afraid of a kid with anger issues, especially since it's not too late to get him help with them. A grown man, on the other hand? That's a problem.
what annoys me is that the 9 year old has a much higher pitch and squeaky voice. However, i agree that adults should know better than to shout "HAXXXXXXXXXX" every time someone out shoots them. These two problems are what have made me mute EVERYBODY, just so I dont have to listen to the obligatory 4 year old and angry guy who talks like he's either from the ghetto or way down south.
