On his way back to the inn Lev had noticed a number of happenings, they were not necessarily odd ones but he took notice of their contrast to the townspeople's apparently normal routines. First there were two guards sprinting past him from the direction of the gate he just been at, followed by one of the same guards and a man, who he assumed to be a doctor judging by his supplies, running back. This had almost been enough to make him turn around and follow the two men to see what they were in such a hurry for, but he ultimately decided against it, continuing towards the Four Courts Inn where he was supposed to meet Zestia, and hopefully also where Kadence and Prudence were resting.

Walking over towards the door of the inn, Lev noticed a small bunch of children pointing over at something near the building, and upon a little closer inspection he saw that it was in fact Garret sitting there, apparently enjoying the shade. Not sure if the wolf disliked dealing with children or not, and also due to the fact that children were noisy and annoying as a general rule, Lev turned to them and gestured for them to leave, though not too forcefully, the last thing he needed right now was a group of crying children to deal with.

"Shoo, the wolf's resting, so leave him be, alright?" He also told them before he turned and walked back inside the inn, spotting Prudence and Kadence moments later and heading over to them. "Still here I see, good. Viktorya and Ursa have left town due to their own reasons, so we might not be seeing any more of them for a while, if at all." He pulled out a chair next to Prudence without thinking and sat down, "Have either of you seen anything of Zestia yet? Or Tatiana for that matter?"

-----

Seeing the boy walk to a darker part of the den Tatiana followed him, getting the feeling that they weren't completely at their destination yet, and sure enough, moments later it sat down on some more wood in the darkest part of this place. Not entirely sure what happened now, Tatiana walked next to Jayce's chair and turned around, laying herself down on the floor there, with her gaze on the other patrons and the exit. Oddly enough, some of the humans in here seemed to actually notice her, having their eyes fixated on her with just a little hint of fear shining through. Not particularly enjoying this, Tatiana scowled back at them and bared her teeth just a little, growling in a low tone at them which seemed to carry through the wooden floorboards.

It didn't take too long before the majority of them seemed to get the message and started to keep their eyes to themselves, which calmed her down slightly, at the very least none of them dared challenge her and she could wait here in peace to see what happened next.

After ordering food for Jayce and Tatiana, Badelin went to sit down at the table with the young boy.

"The food will arrive shortly. Until then, would you care to tell me your name and what exactly you were doing eating that nasty loaf of bread in such a dangerous place as a back alley....."

The assassin paused and then smirked, mimicking an ironic laugh.

"Where are my manners? Allow me to introduce myself. I am Badelin and this feline here is called Tatiana. Now would you be so kind as to tell me yours?" said Badelin on a friendly tone.

Woo! I finally make a post here again!
Sorry about the long gap between my current and last post. I just seriously had no idea what to write.
Zestia was walking around town, heading back to the inn with Shade on her shoulders. She had occasionally stopped to play with some of the children there for a moment and show them Shade, since none of them had seen a snake, much less a King Cobra, up close. She allowed the ones that dared to pet him, even though he wasn't a pet. He didn't really mind it, or at least he didn't bite or hiss at anyone.

After a while, the inn was in sight and Zestia walked to it, opened the door and walked in. She saw Kadence, Prudence and Lev sitting at one table and walked over to them. "Hello again. I've finished talking to Sai and Avi and they seem to be pretty settled here. They might catch up to us later should they want to join us, but from how they said it, we shouldn't wait for them." She pulled out a chair and sat down at the table with them. Shade uncoiled off her shoulders and got down on the floor under her chair, coiling himself under there.

"I see, I have a similar message from Viktorya, she has travelled on ahead for her own reasons, we might meet her further down the road, but I doubt it." Lev told Zestia after she had told them about Sai and Avi, meaning that their potential party had grown to be considerably smaller. And as far as he had been lead to believe, Sai was the only one with direct combat experience, so that was a loss to their overall capabilities. Not that he was implying that Zestia didn't know her way around a weapon, just that her skills had lead him to believe her better at a... More subtle approach to fighting. Which would leave members like Prudence and Kadence exposed, having to depend on their own abilities against a more experienced foe.

"So it looks like the party is assembled then, four people and an equal amount of companions. At least we have a pretty broad spectre of skills available, but we still need a place to start..." Lev turned his gaze on Zestia again, seeing as she seemed like the only other one to actually exit the inn. "Have you heard anything interesting around town, Zestia? Perhaps there might be some clue in among the daily gossip about other travellers like us, or an old tale about ages past might give us an idea..."

He looked over at Prudence, "You check up on that, you said you were a scholar, right? See if there's anything worth noting here in town. Either start at the mayors, the guard captain, or somewhere else for old books and records. And if anybody else has any other ideas, feel free to speak up."

"...Now would be so kind as to tell me yours?"

Jayce's gaze slid to the tiger and then back to the man in front of him.

"Jayce." He replied. "My name is Jayce." The boy then realized that the man had called his loaf of bread 'nasty' and he scowled. The loaf hadn't been bad. And it was his normal fare. The only reason he'd abandoned that particular loaf in the alley was because this stranger seemed rather set on buying him food. And...Jayce didn't want people to think he'd stolen the loaf by bringing it into the tavern. That had happened a few times before.

"The bread was my lunch." he continued, still feeling a bit annoyed at the man. Jayce frowned and fell silent. He reminded himself that this man was paying for another meal and it hadn't arrived yet. He couldn't afford to be dismissed right now. Not when he needed both the food and to find out when this stranger was leaving.

While he was thinking Jayce looked at the man's clothing. Or rather at the massive grey cloak that seemed to cover him entirely. The young man recalled the glimpse of metal he'd when the man, 'Badelin', jumped down in front of him. 'He's got armor. And he's not from around here...'

Jayce fidgeted in his chair. His own shirt and pants were hand-me-downs from his brother. Thread-bare and worn. A lot of the holes were inexpertly mended by the clumsy fingers of apprentices. "What are you?" Jayce asked Badelin abruptly. Could he be a traveling guard of some type? Or maybe even a knight in disguise? Jayce had never seen a real knight before but...he knew they wore armor.

Before Kadence could answer Lev the woman in question arrived with news of her own. Kadence fell silent to listen while Lev and Zestia explained that they had lost group members. It was disappointing to hear but she was grateful that at least there were some people left.

As Lev instructed Prudence to find out information Kadence glanced at the young noble. She hoped that Pru wouldn't take offense at the direction.

'What should I do then...' Kadence wondered. If the goal was gossip...'Well the guards may know something.' Kadence started to mentally run through the guards she knew to see if any of them ever mentioned relatives in this particular town. She looked away from Pru and towards the door in time to see Garret padding into the inn. He nudged passed the patron who was leaving and walked straight toward the table. He seemed more at ease. 'The time outside must have helped.' Kadence noted. Garret approached the table and seated himself next to Kadence' chair. Kadence put her hand out and laid it lightly on the wolf's back.

Zestia went over in her head what she might have picked up while walking around town. Well, there was the conversation she had with Sai, about the missing person. There had also been one other thing...

"When I talked with Sai, she told me she had been handed a "Missing" poster. Apparently, someone has gone missing in town. I also heard that there have been killings in the forest. Those two might be connected. I'm not entirely sure, but there is a chance that they are."

Shade placed his head on Zestia's lap and she petted him on it. He liked it, showing his appreciation by sticking his tongue out.

Hmm... People disappearing and winding up dead in the wilderness isn't that odd an occurrence, but I think I remember there being quite a few posters detailing missing people at the guardhouse earlier... The sheer amount, along with the apparent new laws this town has, leads me to believe that something else might be at work then just wild animals or a few brigands... If it's connected to the ruins or not is anyone's guess...

Lev looked over at Zestia and nodded, "It does sound like they are connected, and this might be a long shot, but say that someone found something valuable and wanted to keep others away, and this object or whatever is apparently valuable enough to murder people over, there's a small chance it might be connected to our ruins. Either that or someone's picking off competitors, or it might just be a gang of particularly reckless criminals... Either way, I think it's worth looking into, it's more or less our only current lead after all."

After talking for a bit, Lev walked over to the counter and retrieved four mugs of drink, the same the different people had enjoyed for their dinner, and returned with them to the table after dropping down a few coins on the counter. Sitting down and taking a good gulp from his ale, Lev then looked over the others. "... If nothing else we are getting to be kinda low on cash, so even if they are only crimes committed by criminals it will keep us on our feet economically, letting us continue on our way. We'll be left behind for sure if we have to stop up and earn more money the usual way."

Lev looked questioningly at Prudence when she finally spoke, it was almost like he had forgotten that she was there for a moment, but he did hear what she said.

"So you have money?" He asked as he looked at her, then back down at his ale as he thought for a second or two, moving the mug so that the ale swiveled around inside it. "No offense, but even if you've saved up on a scholars salary it won't be enough for food and lodging for all four of us for long. So you might want to hold on to it for a while yet and only use it if we find the cash running even thinner. But even so, these disappearances sound worth looking into. Unless you've suddenly remembered your profession and a few local stories along with your speech." Lev looked over at the counter again, aware that what he had just said might have seemed unnecessary, or maybe even cruel, even though that hadn't been his intention.

"Alright," Pru retreated. Lev obviously didn't know the kind of money she had - how could he - and Prudence didn't know how she could tell him in a way that wouldn't either seem like she stole it or reveal her lineage. "And, well, I don't really know about any villages or towns, mostly just history and fiction."

"Then I rest my case, It's still the best option to take a look at whatever is happening in the woods. I'm not saying it won't be dangerous, though. But danger is something we should all have come to terms with after we signed up for this." Lev said to Prudence, obviously letting the whole money issue slide away into obscurity.

"By the way, have any of you seen Tatiana about? She and I got separated after the ruckus here earlier, and despite the fact that it shouldn't be difficult to find her in this town she's been hard to spot so far."

"Jayce." said the boy. "My name is Jayce."

"Delighted to meet you Jayce" said Badelin on a friendly tone.

"What are you?" Jayce asked Badelin abruptly.

"What am I? Well... I am what can be described as a proud and noble warrior. I fight for the people and oppose all evil that may try to hurt them." said the assassin with careful words. While it might have been an idealization of Badelin's profession, it was not a lie. Badelin has always accepted tasks that were against the unjust, even if the payment was smaller. Sometimes he would accomplish the task free of charge, helping needy folk oppose tyranny and oppression. Even so, he has managed to acquire a considerable sum, enough to retire and life an opulent life. Yet he carries on, remaining in a state of unrest until he finds his parents or their fate...

"Now, Jayce" said the assassin on a soft tone" would you be so kind as to tell me what is going on with this town? I am not allowed to ride my horse in town and all the guards seem to be uptight about their duty"

"No, I haven't." Zestia said to Lev. "I do hope she's alright. Though, that shouldn't be hard for her, because of her size and such." She chuckled a little. "Should we go out and look for her? Wouldn't be hard to do so with the four of us."

Shade still had his head in Zestia's lap and she was still petting his head. Then he went under her chair and coiled under it, waiting for if Zestia would leave the chair and take him with her.
