Doctors piss me off with their atrocious handwriting, refusal to print in capital letters and general laziness. These are people who are paid in excess of £100,000 per annum and they can't be bothered to properly fill out a form.

Furthermore, all too often they show no interest in liaising with their patient's employer with a view to helping people get back to work. This ultimately has a detrimental effect on the patient but they don't give a fuck, all they care about is getting the person in front of them out the way as quickly as possible so they can go back to looking out the window.

I wouldn't be quite so bothered if they weren't so grossly overpaid.

Modern Architects. Just......urgh. Why the hell did we go from designing palaces and markets with awe inspiring detail to big, boring blocks of glass and steel. Oh yeah, because it's 'modern'. I swear the problem with anything is that once we can build anything, people just want to make nothing.

Maybe I'm just more rattled by it coming from England where the greatest morons in the world tore everything down for the sake of 'the future'. Apparently no-one seems to realize that their going to look as ugly and dated as the concrete monstrosities built in the 60's in a few years time.

Also speakers. Famous people seriously get away with charging ridiculous sums of money to speak at a dinner party. Of course you shouldn't do it for free but what they get away with is extortionate.

I really dislike how my English prof shoves her political views into almost all of her assignments. Yes, it should be allowed to have open discussions on politics but our essays shouldn't have to be written in order to strengthen her attitudes and arguments when we may not agree.

But... I need the credit so I keep my mouth shut. My mind however isn't going to fall for it.
This happened to me once. I had a teacher that shoved her views in our face repeatedly and then gave bad grades if you dared to write anything critical that wasn't strictly in line with what she thought she would give you a bad grade. She just chose to think you were an idiot or had not tried hard at all and thus read your paper in the most critical way possible and deliberately misunderstood things you wrote so she could mark you down.

About a third the way though the class I wrote a paper on nuclear safety and she was a big environmentalist. I spent more time and worked harder on this paper than I ever had or have since on any paper of a similar size. Because I didn't come down directly opposed to nuclear power in every way she was deliberately punishing in how she judged my paper.

For example, she said that the main problem with the paper was that many sentences were unclear and confusing. The thing is I knew I was working with technical information so I had a 12 year old read it for me and explain it back to me in his own words to ensure it was easy to understand. He understood it just fine, but apparently my professor was so confused she temporally forgot what a helicopter was. (One of the sentences she marked as confusing was "A helicopter was then used to take samples of the air above and around the reactor.")

Now, we could just chalk that up to me being bitter and actually a bad writer except I was so angry about the bad grade and the "You need to put effort into your writing" that I put off the next paper, the midterm paper, until three hours before it was due. At that point I simply word barfed and BSed onto the page and ran spell check. I never even actually read my own paper. I can't even remember the specific subject. I am pretty sure, however, that the most honest title would have been "Lies an environmentalist wants to hear."

A week later I got that paper back. Written at the top was "98%, Great improvement! It's good to see you making an effort." with a single mark on it for bad grammar.

With that said, I want to become a professional writer... who's actually a professional novalist... (Such confusing titles, I tell ya... I mean, which one actually proves you write professionally, anyway?)
So you need a job, and you want to be a...
paperback writer...
paperback writer?
Because being a hardcover writer is just too expensive to get into, based on the publishing-to-sales ratio... If you could pull it off, more power to ya! I'd rather start soft than just go straight to hard... unless I had the backing to pull it off myself...

Engineers.

Fucking engineers!

These people are utterly useless, overpaid, and don't know shit about their jobs half the time. Oh, so you've designed a control panel and drawn up a wiring diagram, shame it doesn't fucking WORK! Such a shame all the measurements are wrong and nothing fits, shame you've decided on the cheapest, fiddliest, smallest components available and then expect the rest of us to work with them. Oh course, we'll be lucky if we even get a set of drawings to work to any time during the first month that the job is sitting there in the workshop, because apparantly you can't coordinate shit. Also, when you come to number cables/components, could you perhaps spend more than 0 seconds actually checking that everything is numbered right so we don't have to go back and redo the entire fucking numbering system at a later day please? There are only 3 mcbs on the panel, why are 2 of them called mcb2 and one is mcb5?

Oh, and when we ask you what colour of wiring you want on a supposedly 24v control section, could you maybe give us an actual answer sometime this week. It really isn't a hard question guys, red or white, pick one.

It would also be really really nice if we had some layout diagrams for the components like, at all, ever, too. Also a parts list would help, so we could check off what equipment has come in, what we're missing, etc. Cos, ya know, when you guys priced up the job and initially ordered all the gear, you ALWAYS leave off about 40% of the shit we need for the job! Thanks for that guys.

Kinda reminds me of an ole engineer joke.

If God was an engineer, what kind would he be? A Civil Engineer, because only a Civil Engineer would put a toxic waste line through a recreational area.
Took me a couple of minutes thinking to work that one out.

I then laughed.

As for the topic, the Lawyers have already got it through the neck so far, so aside from them I'll go for British Firefighters. Who are currently on strike - again.

Firefighters striking is a concept I find reprehensible, and much as the police and military are not allowed to strike, I believe that Firefighters should face a similar ban. So, yeah, I'm pretty disgusted with them at the moment (even if I do have a certain level of sympathy for WHY they're striking).
