I'm typing this from my computer's Safe Mode since I'm currently unable to reach my regular system. I think I might've picked up a Trojan trough a bugged program, but I can't tell yet. I've currently got Defender looking through all of my files for anything, and I've tried restoring my system to a recent checkpoint to no avail (it said something about a disk error while attempting it). Does anyone know what I can do to not lose my entire computer to this?

EDIT: Shit, how did this end up in Gaming Discussion?

If you can get into safe mode there is still hope. Do you have anything that can look for registry errors? Those can crash your computer. Virus scan the computer and see if you find anything.

Windows Defender has been scanning my hard drive for about 16 minutes now, but I don't know if it's found anything yet. Is there a better program I should look into?

Do you have a program that can look for and automatically fix errors?
I have one called errorfix and I haven't had a crash in months...
not advertising, just saying.

Errorfix, huh? I'm going to look into that as soon as I can.

I had that once where I had a sort of trojan but I couldn't find it automatically or manually because it kept dodging out of the way. I just had my entire hard drive wiped and re-installed the important programs. You can always just back up the folders you want to keep to an external hard drive.
I wish I had an external hard drive at a time like this, I really can't afford to wipe my computer since I don't have a backup for a lot of stuff on here...

I use Glary Registry Repair to check for registry errors. It's freeware. I also use the spyware doctor program to look for spyware (it's freeware in the google pack). Then I have McAfee security to sweep for viruses. It's tough to know what do do if you don't know what's wrong, but sweeping for viruses registry errors and spyware might find the problem.

Make sure all your internal are plugged in all the way. My computer wouldn't start a while back, and it would start in safe mode. I couldn't figure anything out. No viruses or anything. Then I realized that my dial-up modem came loose. I made sure that all the pins were connected, and it was good to go. If there is no virus, you might give that a try.
I haven't moved my computer from its spot in almost a year now, so I don't think anything's out of place. If I don't come across anything, though, I'll try it.

My computer is only 60GB so I just backed up my files onto my iPod. It's an 80GB and if it has enough space, it doubles as a flash drive.
Oh, I know that much. MY computer, however, is 224GB - about 100GB of which is currently being used - and my iPod only holds 4GB. So that's not an option for me, unfortunately.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware cleaner

Spybot S&D

CCleaner for temp files and registry

The free versions will all do you well, don't pay for the premiums.

Also.. this is why I keep a second hard drive (a friend of mine has 1tb in 2 backup external drives).. back up the important crap.

If I weren't completely broke right now, I would be looking into a backup hard drive with utmost urgency.

If you're using Windows Defender as an anti-virus program I would sincerely advise getting another anti-virus program to work along side it. AVG Free is a fairly decent one (If you aren't spending money, that is).

No advice for how to fix it tho I'm afraid, your info is too scarce to diagnose.

What version of windows you using?
You update it regularly?
What Internet browser do you use?
How often do you scan for viruses?
Do you keep Windows Defender up to date?

^- Answer that and you may get some more meaningful advice, or at least more questions to pinpoint problems for meaningful advice...

What version of windows you using? Windows Vista
You update it regularly? I update every time a new one comes out.
What Internet browser do you use? I recently switched to Firefox and Safari a few months back.
How often do you scan for viruses? Not often enough, it seems...
Do you keep Windows Defender up to date? I would think so, but knowing me, probably not.
