I'm typing this from my computer's Safe Mode since I'm currently unable to reach my regular system. I think I might've picked up a Trojan trough a bugged program, but I can't tell yet. I've currently got Defender looking through all of my files for anything, and I've tried restoring my system to a recent checkpoint to no avail (it said something about a disk error while attempting it).
I feel your pain- my gaming rig went down today and I've been forced to use a backup computer which my parents kindly donated to me. Unfortuantely the sound doesn't work on the damn thing.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS:

...And now I've blue-screened. This is not good. My computer unexpectedly shutdown while I was still scanning for malware, so now I've got to do that again.

The best thing to do would be to go to another computer get the files for Malwarebytes anti-malware, burn it to a disk or copy it to a flash drive, then install it using safemode and run it. Saved my computer from a bad trojan before and Malwarebytes is pretty much the god of anti-virus programs.

If you can get into safe mode there is still hope. Do you have anything that can look for registry errors? Those can crash your computer. Virus scan the computer and see if you find anything.
Windows Defender has been scanning my hard drive for about 16 minutes now, but I don't know if it's found anything yet. Is there a better program I should look into?

Again, said earlier, Malware Bytes.

My computer got fucked in the ass by viruses and Malware came to the rescue wearing a cape and some tightie whities.

Thou I had to rebuild my computer because it had other problems...

But Malware Bytes is still pretty good.

Honestly all you can do, is run a registry scan, an error scan and a virus/trojan expert scan. If you still have errors back up the necessities and reformat/wipe the hard-drive.
I think this has become my only option, as my computer has blue-screened repeatedly now, even after attempting to run MalwareBytes several times. I think I'm basically fucked.

Has it run the scanner at least once? or are you BlueScreening during the scan?

I always restart after a quick scan, to make sure the changes take effect.

When my PC was infected I had no idea what to do. So I just got my friendly IT guy to help me out.

And nothing has gone wrong since.

This seems to be happening a lot lately. The main computer (not mine) got hit by a virus on Friday and had to be taken into the shop to be fixed, and our neighbour's computer has had one as well.

I wouldn't really know what to suggest. I did get a Trojan once, but the antivirus immediately identified it and asked if I wanted to get rid of it. Problem solved. In this case, I'm not sure what you should do; I don't have that much experience with getting rid of viruses.

EZ antivirus is a good program, how old is your hard drive? Try puting the hard drive in another computer as a slave and run a virus check on the disk from that one, that will find most any virus or trojan I have found.

If you dont have any encrypted files on your drive, then just pop in your windows CD and choose Repair Windows. It will write over your old windows but keep all your files. So you just have to get all your security updates again and reinstall your games (back up your saved game files first).

Simplest and most effective way.

Next time make sure you have auto updates turned on. Buy a good antivirus (Norton, F-Secure, or Nod32.. if you get norton make sure you get just the AV; their other system software sucks) (or if you dont have any money use Avira, it's the best free one. AVG sucks). Use a firewall (like Zone Alarm), make sure your router has NAT (& SPI if you have it) turned on.

Put a strong (as in word(s) & number(s)). A normal word can be cracked w/ a dictionary attack in like 5 mins. On your limited account and admin. Dont use your admin account unless you absolutely have to. (yes, at least 2 accounts. Admin & Limited.) When installing games, switch your limited account to Admin just for installation & first run of the game. Then switch it back to limited.

When you browse the net use Firefox, and run it in http://www.sandboxie.com (after you have set it up first).

Do this & follow these rules and you will be fine.

NOD has been my protection for the last 3 years, nothing that I have detected since I went with them, excellent security advice Captain.
