Computer Troubles...Help?

I need some suggestions with my current computer. I'm a hopeful convert here, leaving behind the shelter of glitchy uncustomizable unmchangable dull consoles for the hopes of a computer that allows me to be more creative.

And I seem to have succeeded! I now have my hands on a monster machine with the power to run multiple games at once effectively, its great!

The only problem is...it overheats...bad....really bad. Leaving it unattended without a fan running directly into it usually heats up the room several degrees and presents me a warning message that my processor is far past its recommended temperature zone. I have some good cooling hardware but nothing that is by any means revolutionary and I don't really have much cash the throw around to get the thing top-of-the-line cooling.

I need to keep the machine cool so that I can use it! Any suggestions?

Edit: I'll have some accurate specs on the machine sometime tomorrow -- I just need to figure it all out. Sorry about how vague the details on the machine are now.

have you tried switching it off and on again?

and what's the point of a monster machine if you can't afford to keep it cool?

and why would you want to run more than one game at a time?

Yeah...Um...is your tower in an open place? Or is it enclosed?

Either way, how many fans do you have in your tower?

Yes. - This problem is reccuring and lasting.

The Machine is a monster but I did not have to buy it.

And I don't, I was simply illustrating how powerful it was.

It is in a fairly open place, not too enclosed and without casing to keep it cooler. I believe (still have to check) that it has 2 fans and one large exterior fan.

Ok, then I look forwards to seeing what the hell you have in there.

Alright, I was meaning to save my 1000th post for something special but I can't help but come to the aid of a fellow PC user.

I don't know enough about this myself but I'd be more than happy to direct you to another website with lots of detailed information:

http://www.ocforums.com/

There's an entire section on cooling.

Hope this helps and good luck.
I looked around on this, and, OP, if you have a big graphics card, this could help

P.S.: Congrats fullmetalangel on becoming a Gonzo!

Have you overclocked it at all? If so what kind of heatsink do you have?
And I would say 2 fans isn't enough unless they're 220mm fans. I can recommend the ASUS Arctic Square heatsink.

I'm no expert, but I believe if you've got fans in there, you want the case on and close, so as to force airflow thru the case. I can only imagine perhaps the thermal greases has not been applied properly or the heatsink is not fitted correctly, if its been built and you have fans and you're still getting overheating.

Personally, I'd get it fixed soon, as overheating can be an expensive problem!

Thanks FullmetalAngel! And congratulations on going Gonzo! I'll take a look around there....

And I may try this, I just need to figure out what is going to be best for the machine..

There is very little anyone can reccomend without the specs.
Including the size of the case and the size of the fans inside the case.
From the sound of things, you either have dual graphics cards or you've overclocked the shit out of it. Either way, water cooling is probably your best option.

Nice to know you got a monster but really, shouldn't you consider cool FIRST before you set off to build it? Not much of a monster to me if it keeps choking in heat.

Ready to show us the specs to help you out??

This may sound controversial but have you considered underclocking? There exist programs --arcane, obscure limiters-- that could reduce your CPU usage while your computer is idle, thus reducing strain on your system and components.

You could also try reducing the number of programs, processes (and in Windows, Services) running in the background and using processing power for no reason.

Ah, if it's a monster CPU... look at this: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=574&name=CPU-Fans-Heatsinks

EDIT: The best reviewed one :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223
