Don't worry, I found the picture. We should really make a pony version of it.

This is the best I could do in short notice xD

EDIT: Whoops, double post
Good one, but that one's happy and should be used for pony threads. I made another one.

I tried "unhappy Pinkie Pie" and "bored Pinkie Pie" in Google and that image I used was the best I got!
Just tells you everything you need to know about Pinke Pie really. ;)
Yeah, I think Rarity is probably best for it.

We the members of the herd do not condone the abundance of pony threads. We do however find them hilarious.

And apparently that's a crime nowadays. To enjoy what is fun with other like minded ponies people.
And no, we aren't forcing it on you either. How is having Pony avatars different from ZP avatars? Or Xbox Mii-thingy avatar[footnote]I don't know their actual name. But whatever Xbox's avatar system is called[/footnote], or anything else that's popular enough for people to put as their avatars?
So the image macros can sometimes be a bit overwhelming in threads. I admit, some people need to learn how to use spoiler tags, but how is posting a Pony image different from any meme image?
Maybe some people eyes just can't take the overload of friendship, rainbows and love!

It's a fad. The entire pony craze is a fad. All the "ponies taking the internet by storm" shit is merely the boasting of zealots of the fad in celebration of newfound pseudo-kinship. These zealots (the herd/ "bronies") have found some superficial subject matter to worship, in this case My Little Pony, and now prance around the internet with unwarranted smugness. Think of a group of sheltered posh toddlers prancing around the sandbox because they got new toys.

I despise these manchild "bronies" with unyielding passion, but I also see them as what they are.

They are simply semi-conscious devotees of a fad. They'll have their fun, they'll move on to their next superficial abomination, and the cycle will continue. However, they will still be the same people. The same easily swayed, marketable people who somehow think they have control over their unhealthy addiction to "popular" culture.

...Please pardon the somewhat incoherent rant. Those people just frustrate me so.
Maybe we like the show because it's a good show? And don't spout that crap about how it's a show for little kids, it's called an opinion.

As I see it, your avatar is an extension of yourself; it's what we substitute for a face when we read your post. Even just the act of making that an image of My Little Pony - or any direct culture reference, really - is something that strikes me as odd. It's like saying, "The most important element of my personality is my appreciation of this show/character/game/etc." This seems unreasonable to me.
Often however the only way to show a part of your personality is to have an avatar of something well-known that represents it, otherwise it will be meaningless to anyone-else. I'd guess that a MLP avatar would represent someone's fun loving nature and that they aren't embarrased to be into girly things.

Well, guess what.
People have different opinions then you.
For instance, I fucking hate Firefly, but I love Battlestar!
I hate Portal, but I'm a motherfucking maniac when it comes to Duke nukem!
You see, I've seen the most incredibly stupid things been pushed into cult status and think about it again what is in current cult status.
Pokemon....
Mario...
All the old stuff of Cartoon network...
Lady gaga....
Ke$ha....
Slipknot....
System of the down...
and so on.
Trust me, there are online communities about all of them.
Also, about my little pony, is that it's fresh, it's refreshing to see something not just built up in such a stupid manner such as "oh now it's time for cracking a time machine and cooking a dinosaur blablabla".
Plus, it's fucking epic.
Also making me into a better person with each episode.
And I am, a proud Brony.

First off, serious question here. Have you watched the show?

Now, since I seem to be the perfect response to this whole post, I'll use personal examples against your points. Please don't think that this means I'm the exception to the rule, though, since my examples apply to almost all of the other real fans of the show, too.

"Unwarranted smugness"? No. Just no. I'll post responses to threads like these, and maybe join in on posting a few pony pictures here and there. That =/= being smug.

"Semi-conscious devotees of a fad." You imply in this paragraph that all the fans of this show are saying they're fans and acting the part, because it's a fad? Again, no. I've never joined in on internet-fads before. Name a recent internet-fad, and I'll answer you honestly if I joined in or not, but I can tell you now that I'll almost certainly answer with "I didn't join in".
So, why am I joining in now, then? Because I like the show. Plain and simple.
(I must also point out that if you think "My Little Pony" is part of pop culture, then you are grievously mistaken. On the internet, that may be the case. But admit that you like the show in real life and see if the response you get is similar to saying you enjoy any other not-online pop culture piece.)

As for the time to come, don't worry. The final episode for first season recently aired, so some of the posting may calm down. But the second season is confirmed to start airing at the end of this year, so it'll be back. Let's assume you're right, and it is a fad? Then it's not leaving for good any time soon. ^_^

As a more general note, there are always people who post in threads like these about how they get annoyed at all the MLP threads. I would like to point out here that, as far as I can remember, there have been only around 5 threads started by actual fans. That's in total. Out of the rest, a few have been started by people who are genuinely interested about what's with the hype about this show, the rest (that is, the vast majority) have been started by people who don't like the show.
So if you're sick of seeing a ridiculous amount of MLP threads, blame the haters, not the fans. We have a user-group here with almost 350 members, and for the most part, are perfectly content with posting and chatting within that group.

Frist thing The show is like any other fandom when it first aired like example there are a huge fandom for Avatar: The Last Airbender. Just like fandom, they are hype about the upcoming new series Avatar: Legend of Korra comming soon just like we are hype up of season 2 of the show to be aired this winter.

Second your view on the avatar on this forum doesn't mean we all share your view. We choose a avatar to display ourself for many reason.

You pronounce yourself the perfect response to my post, claim you will use your own personal example against my points because they apply to the majority of your fellow fans, and then claim not to be smug. Okay, I guess.

So, then you aren't one of the "devotees" I mentioned? You're just someone who likes the show. Okay. Well then, what is your problem with me?

So, your problem with me is that I have a problem with people you do not directly affiliate yourself with, in fact you are in way superior, but are connected by cartoon ponies that somehow aren't really part of pop culture because it is a television show with a large internet fanbase filled with fans, such as yourself. Umm... okay?

Ugh, I loathe when someone says "haters,' but that's just me. Also, it's good that your group can chat amongst each other, make your own threads, and do whatever. However, it's also good for a counter-culture to have the same right and to use it how it pleases. I'm glad we agree.

My theory of why it's going so well is that it's developed/directed by Lauren Faust. She's the one who create PPG and Foster's Home for Imaginary friends, both of which I, like many others, loved when I was a child. The new My Little Pony must has the same feel as those shows and it drags us in with the thought of the other shows subconsiously.

I find myself loving the new MLP and I find it extremely hard to say why.

That was my bad, articulation has never been one of my strong points. By "perfect response", I merely meant that as far as I could see at the time, nothing of what you said applied to me. I am not pleased with myself, or have any sense of self-satisfaction from this (as the word "smug" implies), I simply found myself to be the best counter-point/response I could think of, since I don't know anyone else personally, who is also a good response to what you posted, that you would also know.
I also realise that you would have to take my word for it that everything I say about myself is true, but that's something I hope anyone would do if they wanted to have a serious discussion over an internet forum.

JoJo Bizzaro 7 said:

I'm sorry if it came across this way, but I don't have a problem with you personally. Just what you posted. ^_^
My problem is this. It's not that you were just addressing the "semi-conscious devotees of a fad" (which anyone, myself included, would agree are a part of the MLP:FiM fandom just as much as they are a part of any fandom). It's that you implied that anyone who would call themself a brony is one of these devotees, i.e. they are only a brony because it's yet another internet fad. From there, you then called them all "The same easily swayed, marketable people who somehow think they have control over their unhealthy addiction to "popular" culture."

If I've read that wrong, then I apologise. But it really did look like you were calling everypony one of the aforementioned semi-conscious devotees, and then belittling the whole group.

JoJo Bizzaro 7 said:

You may have misunderstood what I was saying, possibly accidentally or once again on my behalf with bad articulation. But I was not implying that I am superior, nor was I implying that I wouldn't affiliate with the group. On the contrary, I am no better or worse than anyone on The Escapist, and I'm more than happy to state that I like the show, and am a proud member of the group on these forums.

About Pop Culture, your definition is correct. I was simply referring to the fact that if I were to include something as part of "pop culture", there would usually be a lot of people in real life who are also a fan of whatever they're talking about at that point in time, or at the very least, a fair portion of the population who knew about it (in this case, people know about My Little Pony, for sure. But in my experience, there are very few people who know about the latest reboot of the series). Of course there is a large following on the internet, but you can find followers for almost anything on here, too.
Personally, I find that discovering a lot of people who collectively enjoy something on the internet is not enough for it to be defined as part of pop culture.

JoJo Bizzaro 7 said:

I was merely using "haters" because it's a short, succinct term which (I'd imagine) everyone on here is familiar with.
And, yea. It's good to agree on certain points, isn't it? ^_^

It's lucky for me that my final paragraph wasn't intended to be an argument either way, just an interesting point (as was implied by "As a more general note here...")
It was meant for anyone currently watching this thread who are thinking of complaining about the sometimes ridiculous amounts of MLP threads that can be active here on The Escapist. It's been stated before, but just for the record, they generally can annoy the fans just as much as they annoy anyone else.
(Personally, I've never really been annoyed at repeat-threads since I know that repeat-threads usually are a recurring fad for different topics. There have only been a few instances where I've been annoyed by them, and they were all because we had some people making heaps of Goatse-style threads before the mods could stop him/her, a couple years ago.)

I think my main problem is that it's sort of like Half-Life 2. People hyped this show up so much about being the second coming of christ and getting all these memes about it, and when I finally experienced it, it just fell short.

Plus, that Pink one and the Texan have the most fucking annoying voices ever, I swear to god.

The "smug" I refer to is that thing the ponies do when they claim to have "taken over the internet," or that "they are to spread rainbows and magic" and then act like they've actually done such things. Then they hide behind the cliche of "haters gonna hate" even when no one is hating, but they are complaining- GAH RAEG GAAAAAH!! *cold water splash* I'm okay. Also, immature. Some are kind of cute with it, but then it just grates every last... *silence* Umm... moving on now.

The fault was in my context. I thought that when I described the "problem people" as zealots, the assumption of extremist brony would be reached. Obviously, more clarification was needed. However, the statement of easily swayed, marketable, and addicted still stand, but in the broader sense of a consumer community as a whole.

You like warhammer 40k? Good for you! I do too. Flooding the forums with threads and references, though, gets obnoxious pretty quickly. Sorry if that sounds rude but can you see my point? Besides it's fairly clear from the thread titles and the OPs that it is not us making the threads. If you have a problem take it up with the posters making the threads not the people that appear to answer direct questions directed at them.
