So you don't feel any compassion for the British and American (and countless other nations') soldiers who died to stop the holocaust?No_Remainders said:Not really. I don't feel compassion for people who go to war. They choose to. I can't feel sorry in any way for someone who signs up to try to fight against people, and it's their fault if they suffer as a result.Mandalore_15 said:Bit harsh mate. Not being American, I couldn't give a flying shit about your soldiers. I prefer to judge a band/artist on their music, rather than them singing for idiots who go to war.
I do, however, feel sympathy for the victims of the holocaust, because that's something different entirely. Soldiers choose to go to war. Jews didn't choose to be massacred.
Not to call you out on your opinion, it's your's. I'd like to know what about soldier's families? What if there was a draft? Or we did Starship Troopers military service = citizenship.No_Remainders said:Not really. I don't feel compassion for people who go to war. They choose to. Actually, I'll just quote this guy as he's absolutely right.ChadSexington said:A) The vast majority of the rap scene hate Soulja Boy. B) Generally when a metal band makes a war song it will almost certainly be anti-war, this is a very rare exception.
I'm a metalhead, I have been for a very long time. That said I like some rap. You have picked some of the worst artists from both genres. Drowning Pool are a terrible, terrible band. A lot of people will say music is subject to opinion but Drowning Pool take some guitars with distortion, play some infuriatingly simple riffs and sound kind of angry in a bid to capitalize on a fourteen year olds inability to distinguish heavy from good. Soulja Boy has had a number of famous rappers come out and say that he is absolutely terrible because they felt his music insulted what they do.
So in essence if you form an opinion make sure you have a very good idea of what you are talking about because I can name a number of rap artists (not using the term loosely here) who are far more talented then Drowning Pool. If you think rapping takes no talent you need to open your mind. That is EXACTLY the same thing as people saying the guttural screams in metal take no talent.
"Hit" in the loosest sense, but GOD do I wish he just stopped there.jbchillin said:soulja boy still exsists?!??! i thought he dropped off the face of the earth after his one hit wonder
Thanks man! (Hopefully this quote thing works, I've never done it before.)Julianking93 said:Actually, I'll just quote this guy as he's absolutely right.
... you know, Iraqis are human beings too. Didn't seem much compassion in that "Shock and Awe" campaign all those years ago. At least it turned out ok, and was done for all the right reasons and now everything's better than it was before. Go soldiers!Mandalore_15 said:Bit harsh mate. I have to agree with this. And since I have one of my mates music on my computer as well as some of my library, he apparently has Soulja Boy in his library and I, having my itunes on random, was listening to music the other day and his crap came on and I skipped it and deleted it off my computer. Basically though, with every genre you're going to get good artists and crap artists just depends on your taste. There is *some* good rap but I find it few and far between so I don't really listen to it. I do listen to more metal but that's cause it is good exercise musicWuggy said:Generalization much?
Look, I like metal more than I like hip hop, but I seriously fail to see what you're trying to say there. Soulja Boy is an asshole ergo rap is crap? Soulja Boy says something bad about the troops and some random metal band shows their support for them ergo metal is good and rap is bad?
Besides, I fail to see what supporting the troops has to do with the actual musical merit anyway.

Doesn't hurt that the first five minutes is him mentioning where you can get the song.Sparcrypt said:Dear god I tried to listen to that song to see what the fuss was and putting aside the lyrics, which I agree were a really idiotic thing to put in there, how the HELL is that music??
I am not a rap fan, I'll admit - but I've heard plenty of rap and even if it's not exactly my kind of music you can tell when someone has talent.. there was none in that 'song'. Hell it wasn't even a song - it was an idiot rambling with some music playing.
Please, if there are any rap fans out there who can tell me just what part of that utter crap actually counted as music I would be most appreciative. Because frankly, if that was rap, then I'm a rapper. A tone deaf rapper. Who can't sing. Or Rhyme.
Yeah, but you know what? Soldiers aren't the people who decide whether or not to go to war. This is a frequently recurring viewpoint that annoys me to no end. You can't blame a soldier for the war he fights in. He makes a pledge to serve his country, and it's his country that decides what he does. If you want someone to blame, look at your commander-in-chief, or perhaps even yourself if you were old enough to vote.Wicky_42 said:... you know, Iraqis are human beings too. You do know that combat and war and only part of a soldier's duty, right? How about the protection and security they provide to communities in the middle east that are opposed to terrorist regimes? How about the work they do trying to rebuild people's homes and lives in war-torn areas, and provide families with food and medicines and their children with education. Hell, even playing a game of football with the kids there does a great deal for people's lives. Soldiers do these things every day.No_Remainders said:Captain Ponyholder said:While I do agree with the generalization, please do not go and insult those who risk their lives for their countries. They risk their lives for their country, yeah, but it's stupid. Honestly, I think anyone who makes the conscious decision to go to war is stupid. Conscription is a different matter, because it's forced. But deciding to go fight? That's disgraceful, and it's why I don't trust humanity.
