Concerns over Prototype 2

I know the Prototype 2 announcement was a while ago, but this is the first time I've thought about it. By the way, this will probably have SPOILERS.

I really enjoyed Prototype, I thought it was a fairly unique game, but I'm worried about where it's heading. From the info we have, we're going to be pitted against the protagonist from the previous game. I know Alex Mercer is as big as an anti-hero you can get without being a villain, but I spent a whole game playing as him. I don't want to have to kill him in this.

So I ask, what's everyones thoughts on this? Do they like this, or do they hope as I do that a nice plot twist will happen?

Honestly, I'm not looking forward to it for those reasons. Sure Mercer was tough near the end, but the devs could've expanded on his powers, and there's still PARIAH and Dana Mercer loose plot threads still hanging.

I'm pretty sure Deus Ex 2 pitted you against the protagonist of the first game, surprisingly enough.

But in this case, I don't think anyone really saw Alex as such a good guy. He was always devouring innocent people, and just so happened to save lives once or twice along the way.

My guess will be that it will follow the Marvel Method. You're infected with the virus and sent after Alex. After a lot of back and forth, you discover the person you're working for is ten times the villain Alex is and we get the team-up.

In fact, I hope he's a constant presence in the city, always in disguise. Imagine: you're attacking a Blackwatch convoy when out of nowhere an old lady throws a taxi at you and suddenly it's on.

I thought Alex Mercer was smashing his was towards Area 51 to absorb Pariah?
I was expecting to spend a whole game smashing through half of America to reach Pariah.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. I've never had more fun with an open world game than I did with Prototype. I loved the freeworld aspects of it. And I think that Alex would be an awesome boss to fight, even though I doubt he'll be the big bad guy. You'll be misguided and fight him. He'll explain, you'll go "Oh! Well lets go get "X" and kick his ass!"

And I'll love every goddamn second of it.

That sounds pretty awesome, but I wonder how a encounter like that would work. Like if you beat Mercer what would happen? Or if he just dominated you would it just leave so you could crawl away???

Ether way I'm looking forward to Prototype 2 because I had a lot of fun in the first one...

I dunno, any kind of story would just be an obstacle in that game. Something that gets in the way of more mass-murder.

But since your guy used to be a soldier I dont think he will commit mass murder any day soon since he is all good or used to be (they say this is because we want to have a deeper connection with the main character), also will their be a Karma meter?

Perhaps a more consistently likeable character? Sure would be nice. Makes the mass murdering more meaningful.

I'm still not really convinced that you won't play as Mercer. The trailer shows this new guy really warped, like an infected would be. And later in the trailer you see this guy in exactly the same armour mode as Mercer was, without the entire warped thing. I think that this Sgt. Man's going to be the next 'villain' where you still play as Mercer.

Thing is, Mercer was a juggernaut of shit-wrecking by the end of the first game. If they introduce a new player character, they can build his powers up from the bottom more like the first.

Nuclear bomb wiped out all his powers from the last game because he had to rebuild his own body from the start up; making him Mercer again.

There's plenty space for a cop out there.

Okay, Deus Ex 2 was an absolutely terrible game. I am going to leave trying to figure out how you managed to play far enough into the game to figure out who was actually the antagonist a mystery though. Must be an iron will or something.

I don't know anything about Prototype 2 or whatever, but I know if you want to justify any sort of plot tool, you'll probably want to use a game that isn't the equivalent of doing laundry and finding a pair of underwear with a thick brown racing stripe on it, still fresh.

My biggest concern is that it will be like the first game. Extremely fun for about 20 minutes, but then suddenly turning into a monotonous quasi-grind with bad writing and dodgy controls.

Also, Mercer was a dick. An uninteresing dick at that. I would be quite happy to kick him off this mortal coil. But I doubt Prototype 2 will include that.
