so I dont know if this non american's will understand this due to our grading system here, but anyways...

I am a Junior in high school (year 11) and for the most part I am in all normal classes except for my history, where I am in Advanced Placement (A.P) United States History, Junior year is THE year for schooling where colleges look at you and determine where you go, and where your GPA is acceptable etc etc. well currently I hold a GPA of 3.14 and that deeply frightens me for my future, the current Major's I am looking at are Game Design, Culinary, Film and I do NOT want to go to a community college, and state colleges are really iffy for me, suggestions?

EDIT: I live in SoCal, and even to get into the lowest UC school, UC Merced, I need a 3.5 GPA >.>

I Qualify for all state schools except for Cal Poly San Lois Opisbpo, San Diego, and Possibly long beach, those are counted as "maybe" schools depending on other scores >.<

Chemistry:B
AP U S: B( counts as an A in GPA)
Algebra II: C
English: B
History Thu Film: B+
Film Production/script: A

Not much to say here. Do something about that math score, and you're gonna need good test-taking skills to counteract the GPA if it keeps going in that direction. For the careers you want, you'll need a college degree, so "go live as a hermit on top of the mountains in Tibet" may not work either.

I guess the best thing to do is try to pick up that Algebra grade, work on getting at least a C+. Your other courses seem ok, and improving your grades in ANY of them will pick your GPA up a bit, but if your Algebra mark is higher it'll improve your GPA substantially.

http://abstrusegoose.com/206 stupid image wouldn't work

Anyway I'm not sure what you want the community as a whole to say except try bring your grades up a bit if you're worried about it that much, also you could tr get in on second placement some colleges lower the GPA necessary if the class doesn't fill up, or at least they do here.

Good job getting a good mark in AP, by the way, being able to skip a year of collage/university is a HUGE advantage (I was able to bypass a whole year of psychology, myself, thanks to AP)

So keep an eye on your US History, too, you won't regret it.

Any other questions? :)

So, you want to pay more money than you have to for the first two years of college just because it doesn't say community on it? Community college is one of the best ways to save a LOT of money getting the mandatory equivalent of the first two years of college out of the way, in case you don't have enough to cover 4+ years. Bachelors is the new high school diploma.

GPA is an alien concept to me here in Quebec...
Really? Because we've got GPA here in BC. Maybe it's under a different acronym, it's the Grade Point Average.

Don't stress, and study more.

Also, if you really ass it up find out about mature age entry. In many countries even if you've got crap school results you can get into Uni anyway if you're over a certain age (varies usually between 21-25) if you agree to sit an entrance exam.

So long as you get a good score on your SAT's you shouldn't have much trouble... Also, try a community college first, get the hang of going to college before applying to a big University.

That's what I'm doing.

I reccomend really boosting the math score, and work on your ACT scores. As for schools....I hear ASU takes most anyone...

jk, but you shouldn't have such a low outlook. Many schools take a lot of things into consideration, not just ACT or school scores. Also, work on your extra cirriculars, like- alot. They are mui importante, schools take that deeply into consideration when looking at your transcripts.

yeah Im planning to take both the ACT and SAT.

and the reason I say no to CC is for example, some schools go at different paces for game design, so if I do game design at CC then go to a big UNI I could be far behind.

but then again if I did Culinary I wouldnt stress about any of this :p

I am going to get a shite ton of community service by Umpiring for Baseball games also :)

ugh its amazingly stupid on how things you do as a 16 year old can affect you for the next 10 years or so >.<
