I'll be blunt about this, I hated the Wii since it came out. I was the type to call it a kiddie system and the games for it had the habit of sucking (aiming on COD3= fail). Well on Saturday me and my mother got invited to my aunt and uncle's house for the evening. Turns out my aunt bought the Wii despite me always saying how bad it was. Well not long after showing up I realize my xbox 360 elite wouldn't work on one of their TVs. This left me with a choice. I could either sit around and talk or I could try out the Wii. I went with the latter option on the grounds that while I hated the Wii perhaps I merely had bad first impressions.

Me and my uncle ended up playing on the Wii for 3 hours (Wii Bowling and Wii Golf) and I have to say I actually enjoyed myself. Aside from one incident where I knocked a can of pepsi over and spilled a small amount on the white walls it was accident free. I had a blast playing the games and I've never seen my uncle so happy. He always hated technology and here he was playing video games. I'd always hated the Wii and here I was having a great time on it.

My arms still hurt today but it was totally worth it. By being willing to try something new I ended up having a good time. It managed to change my opinion of the Wii to something that me and my uncle can play while I'm over there during the winter. I no longer hate the Wii.

edit: Oh yes discussion topic. Ever hate something only to try it and realize you like it?

Erm.. Congratulations?

Everyone's entittled to their opinions, and all you're telling us is that you hated the Wii before even trying it, and now that you tried it you like it...

Yeah OK, that makes tons of sense XD

*No hate over here, just making funnies!*

Now do that for another week or so you wont like it again.

The Wii can be fun but it's more like a party game that is best played a couple of times with family and friends

Meh, it's normal, I'm sorta the same case as you, except I become like this the hard way when I sold my 360 and all my 360/Xbox games for a Wii (please don't ask why I did it) and later realized how the Wii was an epic fail as a gaming console. I still admit the Wii can be fun, I never stop playing Resident Evil 4 on it, so it's just a case of "I did have fun with it once".

The Wii still sucks as a whole. Sure, you had fun, but you'd still never buy it.

I've disliked the concept of something without playing it (never saw the big deal about Halo) but I didn't make falls claims saying it sucked when I hadn't played it.

Might wanna edit that in your OP.

uhh.. when I was 6, I thought video games were stupid, all you did was sit down and hit buttons.

Now look at me. I'm sitting down and hitting buttons! :D

The reason it was fun was because I was with people while I was playing it. That to me is the whole point of the system. The xbox 360 on the other hand I play singleplayer. As I'm alone most of the day and my mother proved on Saturday that she has zero hand/eye coordination I wouldn't get the Wii.

The wii is a different way to play and it the novelty will work for a couple of months. The graphcs are low end and the games are short. It is good if you want a break from your other consoles but not a winner in the long term. I like to play Gamecube games on it.

Like all consoles it has its classics - but those are few and far between.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I thought it was a complete gimmick. Who could ever enjoy just pressing buttons in a certain order?

Then I played it in a store. Now I have Guitar Hero: World Tour and the full band set :p

I had a Wii from release, kept it for 18months then reakiesed my arse was sore, not from piles but from Nintendo trying to RAPE me. So sold it and all its crap.

Seriously, its great for family do's etc etc, but as a gamer, it blows.

Halo.

The ultimate lesson to myself that a person should never, ever let their opinions of something be formed by other people or by mere presumptions. At least not before you have a chance to form your OWN opinion by actually trying it and keeping an open mind about it.

Here's hoping you'll keep this event in mind for the future.

As for the Wii itself, I got it after it was released (That thing sold the fuck out at light-speed on the release day...). Admittedly the hardcore games are few and far between, but I recently got Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (It was only released here recently... it's a bit of a 'love it or hate it' game too) and I'm getting some use out of it again. The Virtual Console it a nice little added bonus.

I've never liked Nintendo, the games they release have always felt unnatural to me and left me feeling like I was playing with a childs toy rather than a proper video game. My wife (ex) got the vibe that I wanted a wii on release. I have no idea why and I'm fairly sure I never hinted at it, but she spent a lot of time getting me one. I tried to enjoy it Christmas day with the family, but everyone was remarkably bad at it.

The problem is I never played it. It sat next to my T.V. and next to my very active 360 and gathered dust. I went out and actively sought the "best rated" games for it and even brought a wii fit - but to no avail.

Recently I ventured around to my mates house one evening and he pops on Tiger Woods and I found that it swinging my arms around "like I was a golfer" just felt wrong. Without any control or substance and very little that made it feel relative to actually playing golf I couldn't see much more point than just using buttons like I would on a 360.

I've tried to like it. I've tried to enjoy it for its party value and I just can't get over how much I continue to hate it.
