But people forget that EA published Left 4 Dead. That only came out for the Xbox 360 and PC. So there is precidence for EA shunning the PS3 if the developer whishes to.

Even if they do port it over to the PS3, I'll still be getting it for the PC.
Usually the ps3 version of a 360 game is an afterthought and it shows (Obox, Fallout3...) but the PC version of the first Mass Effect was vastly superior; for being essentially the same game.
My expectations:
PS3 version- Intolerable Mess
360 version- Tolerable Mess
PC version- Great Game

Hell yeah, the more people get to play this game the better...

Just finished my third playthrough with my hot blonde, Cockfest Shephard, and the story just keeps being awesome...

I think it is safe to bet that "multiple platforms" only means "360 and PC." Microsoft still owns part of the rights to Mass Effect I believe, since they published the original. And really, it wouldn't make sense to release the sequel on the PS3 when the PS3 gamers never got to play the original.

Oh, rriiiiiight. Because the 360 and the PC versions were all ready a forgone conclusion. So multiplatform MUST mean that Mass Effect is coming to the DS or maybe the Phantom. So what else is left. Oh, rriiigght, the PS3. Stupid me.
Well I would call you stupid for typing (in capital letters) CONFIRMED at the helm of your title. Mainly because not only has it NOT been confirmed; but this news is really, really old - there have already been threads on it, months ago.

This is great news. Is possible it might not go on the PS3 but they could say multi-platform and do something foolish like simply input it on the PC and 360. I would love to see a Mass Effect game on the PS3 but I will wait to get my hopes up.

Sort of. I do remember that ME was developed somewhat on MS' dime (with them as publisher) and with an exclusivity arrangement. For EA to do anything otherwise would involve questionably legal backstabbery.

To be expected all around. I knew it was a pipe-dream that it would be an exclusive on the 360 AND release in 09. In any case, I'm happy all around and looking forward to the game.

Good find!

Even if it does come to PS3, I still won't get it. I played the first Mass Effect and couldn't be bothered to finish the first level. KotOR is still the best game BioWare made to me.

Well, uh, "multiple" platforms just means greater than 1 platform. Mass Effect will probably come out on the Xbox and PC and relatively the same time.

Well, I do hope it comes out on the PS3, because it's a great game and I think PS3 owners should get the chance to play it.

First off, What?!
I don't know why I was under this impression, but I thought that the distinct endings I've witnessed in the original Mass Effect would have repercussions in the sequel. Hell, I even thought I read about that(Although, I'll admit, I'm unable to find a suitable link at the moment to back my claim).

Now, I'm not saying I don't want this to come to out on the PS3, opposite in fact. I loved the original Mass Effect, and would only like to see it reach a wider audience. I just wonder, considering we can only assume PS3 owners have never played the original Mass Effect, how Bioware will(or won't) compensate the 360/PC user base for their 20+ hour commitment to the original game. And it comes down to who gets the short end of the stick. Will it be the PS3 community, by being thrust into a story they're not familiar with, one thats already well into the plot? Or will they make an exception, and cater to the new comers? Mass Effect is a good 10 hours of reading, and almost everything you experience adds to the whole lore and mystique of the universe. I don't want to see the same idea's and stories rehearsed, and I don't want the PS3 owners to miss out on all the good stuff I experienced in the first game. How Bioware expects to deliver both a solid sequel, and intriguing introduction is beyond me.

I think they've set themselves up for a fall.

EDIT - I said "first off". There was no "second off". Sorry about that.

Here's a test, if you were in any way annoyed by this news: You are a fanboy for the 360. Maybe not a crazy one but the point still stands.

Me I was a little annoyed, but the more cross console games the better I say.

I was annoyed at the first thought, but more because I built up this awesome character and if I can't play as her in the sequel I'm going to have to find some CEO of Bioware and shove my Converse up his ass. I understand that since KOTOR 2 was made by Obsidian it couldn't go into what happened all that much in the first game, but I want my Shepard.

wow that would be pretty lame, because it would probably be really badly optimised for the PS3 like Fallout 3

EA doesn't own Bioware, they're distributor/saleswhatsit. They advertise and distribute, Bioware makes.

Multiple platform could just reference PC, as there was a PC version of Mass Effect as well. I hope, however, it means a release for PS3 because exsclusives are ghey.

PS: I own an Xbox.

The reality is that if game developers want to make more money, they have to multi-platform. That's an upside of today's gaming economy.

The downside is that since the PS3 architecture is harder to develop on, the game is most likely going to be completely created for the XBox 360 and PC, then ported over to the PS3.
