Oblivion...

I played it for 1,000 hours without a patch.

THE FREEZING! MAKE IT STOP!

I'd walk up to a person...and it'd freeze before the greeting dialogue such as "Well Met!" or "How do you do?".

I had to dodge people to keep it from freezing.
It froze for me whenever I killed a wolf. I don't know why, because I could kill anything else without problems, but if I raised my sword to a wolf the game died. I suspect PETA had some involvement there...

Spiderman 2 on the gamecube. I hadn't saved for 4 hours (it's a damn good game) and then it froze after some dialogue. Although I got back to where I was the same day. My Xbox 360 has never frozen, so that's cool and stuff.

Title made me loose The Game.

I can't remember a game freezing on me when I just won it. They usually freeze long before that.

my worst experience of this happening to me recently happened with fifa 10, playing as lowly Hereford of League 2. I had battled my way painstakingly through to the 4th round of the FA cup, beating Cardiff and Wigan in the previous 2 rounds. I drew Arsenal in the 4th round, a team 4 stars better off than me. After 84 minutes of last ditch tackles and complete misses from the AI, i managed to score and won 1-0. I rejoiced at my triumph, shouting at the screen in pleasure and started wondering if i could actually win the tournament.....2 seconds later, the game decides that this result isn't feasible. Hereford can't beat Arsenal?!? the game froze on the match facts screen, forever immortalising my victory on my tv screen, however not on my hard drive.....i lost the replayed match 4-0.

Freeze?

What is this freezing you speak of? PC-games do not freeze, at least not when the install is done properly and you have not managed to infest it with viruses and trojans.

Then again, I tend to refuse to play games known to be buggy. KOTOR II was the only exception and even that one has no freezing/lockup/crashing problems without the variety of mods I install to restore content.
Liar, may I remind you of drivers and pesky background applications. Many a time have I been thrown to the desktop to click an ok box on WinPatrol, (not a crash but still), at the exact worse moment.
Then you have simply not managed to configure your OS properly.

Look, I'm not saying that crashes on PC are unheard of, I'm saying that personally, the last crash I had was over a year ago with a game that I had modded to hell and back.

The last time any program crashed on me was back in 2005, and the program in question was the Internet Exploder (I was downloading firefox with it.) I get no pop-up windows on the background while playing, because I've set up my computer so that it doesn't give me those when a fullscreen app is running.

And with the win7, microsoft has honestly reached almost Linux-level stability while retaining its 'install and ready to go' approach. If background programs are bothering you, its a simple matter to close them or reconfigure them to stop bothering you. On a PC, more often than not, PEBCAK: Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard. I my experience, these days it's extremely rare for a piece of standard hardware or your average game/program to cause problems, unless it was somehow caused by the user doing something idiotic by accident or by intention.

Naturally, exceptions exist, but I personally refuse to install games known to be buggy as heck due to rushed schedule and that have not yet gotten a patch out. I can wait for those usual 2-3 days/a week for that first critical patch to appear. And even when a game is buggy, it rarely simply crashes on me: usually there are simple in-game problems such as failed ragdoll physics or the graph engine going wild for a second.

In terms of a bad run getting ruined, playing majora's mask a few years ago, where you often go for long periods without saving because it resets time. I set off and got back the horse, went to great see and saved the dude, got the bottle, found all eggs and I noticed my video connection was getting a bit fuzzy. Messing with the wires I accidently brush the cartridge and the game freezes. That was about 2-3 hours work. I nearly flung my n64 out the window...

Worst ever though, was when My Wii mysteriously deleted ALL my data on it. No smash bros with nearly every trophy, no mario galaxy with 242 stars:

That game was made for pissing people off with lost data it seems! It ironically freezes a lot less when I emulate it...

I was within moments of completing a particularly difficult L4D campaign (the AI Director had been sending all sorts of special infected care packages my way) when my computer simply turned itself off. I was not very happy.

I lost... I hate "the game". I was doing so well too.

Anyway, EA's NHL series love to freeze on me during huge hits and the Madden series freezes during big catches. But the worst example was my copy of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 7 freezing during the final video each and every time! To this day I still haven't seen the clip!

Ninja Gaiden 2. I started to play on Warrior (Normal) rather than easy.

The game froze a lot on my 360 for some reason. And it froze on the last boss when from what I can tell, he was about to go down. I have yet to finish the game, too frustrated.

I wanna be the Guy froze on me right before I beat the final boss. Fallout 3 has froze on me in the middle of several quests. KOTOR has frozen on me a number of times. And Mass Effect has frozen on me several times as well.

Pokemon Pearl

Since I had no Wi-Fi and lived in Lebanon, I couldn't get any event Pokemon. I used the tweaking glitch to get Darkrai, and it worked. However, when I did it to get Shaymin, the save file became corrupt. My reaction:

...pretty much that.

I heard that they had some sort of place in Japan where they fixed corrupted save files, so I sent it there.

That was a 2 months ago.

EDIT: Wait a sec is that really relavent to the topic? Oh well.

Wait, you actually made it to the last boss!? I gave up the game after a gazillion attempts at beating the first levels...

Well, that must suck, but it reminds me of Pokemon Red:
I'd played long enough to get and trade almost all the pokemons in the game, I had 149 pokemons, then I should get the last one before Mew, Marowak (I don't know why, but that was the one I didn't have.). I turned on the game, and the menu showed:
New Game
Options

Many FFFFFFUUUUU's were made.
I was only 6 goddammit, I cried a long time because of that.

i got the shitbox 360 version of oblivion and it froze in jail, every time, and so now i have a quest i need to do inside a town where i will get arrested and the game will freeze, so long story short i havent played the game again.

my computer never freezes on me, but my shitbox 360 is almost itching to fall apart.
