This computer will eat CS:S alive. The hardware is fine, though I'd have opted for an Intel processor rather than AMD, but that's a personal preference. I don't know anything particularly wrong with AMD.
i personally think amd is better for gaming
Yeah sure, 2 years ago. Go have a look at some benchmarks and come back and discuss it...

To be honest Boozer you could probably get by for CounterStrike: Source with an old Radeon 9800.

On a similar note, does anyone have suggestions for motherboards/graphics cards for Unreal 3 engine? I probably won't be arsed with Crysis, but Bioshock (and tonnes of lower-spec stuff) calls to me. I won't need to run anything above 1280x1024 and quite frankly I'll drop to 800x600 if need be - I'm really not looking to break the bank if I don't have to.

I never quite understood these brand arguments. Supposedly I picked the wrong brands for my CPU and GPU, but UT3 runs like butter with maxed settings. On Vista.

But if everybody else says my system is weak... I just must not be in the know~

Well frankly if you posted your spec we had more of an idea.

One brand is not inherently better than other. However FOR THE MONEY you get more bang for you buck in nVidia and Intel at the moment. However thats not to say that AMD and ATi are bad they just aren't as good value.

Since most people don't have limitless funds best value equates to best. Best is not most powerful, its best value and best upgrade path.

At the moment the top end AMD CPUs are not anywhere near as good as the Intel ones so Intel is the sensible choice, since firstly todays topend is next years budget and secondly usually unless something very unusual happens it will be months before AMD can get something out to buy that will beat Intels CURRENT lineup.

At the moment the same can broadly be said for nVidia vs ATi.

My only point of advice is to never ever buy ATI (Now owned by AMD) videocards. I have an older X600 and while it is more than capable of running HL2 without a problem the official tools for the card just suck ass. You will want to kill yourself if you ever decide to try out Linux with an ATI card the drivers etc are just worthless and the utilities even more so.

I would probably go with Intel at this point but what you have posted seems perfectly fine to me.

Really? I went on the site, and it said, basically "Intels for work and photos, AMDs for hardcore gaming".
Just as future advice: almost any computer with a gaming label on it means it's overpriced or it's overkill. What you're doing is a good idea because you're getting good opinions. The best thing to do for getting a computer as careful customization after sound research. Get the most for your money.

For a computer with the specs above, I'd opt for an Intel Quad, even though it's more expensive.
