This article should have been a long time coming, but as I personally have yet to see anything remotely similar, I will write it myself. For as long as I can remember the only thing that stops PS3 owners and XBOX 360 owners from bickering amongst themselves, is to bring up the topic of PC gamers. The same can be said about PC gamers toward console gamers and I've had enough. The truth as hard as it may be to accept, is that, NEITHER PC NOR CONSOLE GAMING IS SUPERIOR TO THE OTHER! Both sides have strengths and both sides have weaknesses but all in all there is and never will be a better platform. I will not bother writing a list of strengths and weaknesses because each will know the strengths and weaknesses of their own, and certainly the weaknesses of their opposition so it would be redundant to say anything on the subject.
What should be said however is that both facets are important to gaming and gamers as a whole, and only through a conceited effort from both sides will we finally accomplish something that should be the goal of all gamers, to make video games an acknowledged and legitimate form of art. As we stand now, we are never going to gain acceptance from the greater community at large, because we are stuck in this stalemated civil war, with the glorious PC gamers on one side and the scrappy working class console owners standing in as the opposition. Our cause will never be legitimate and our goal never realized until we finally but aside our differences and make a single universal effort to work together and show the rest of the world what we are, what we stand for and what we have that no field has ever had before.
The main reason I hope all of you realize about this conflict, it that it makes all gamers look like fools in the eyes of outsiders. What man in their right mind would form a group behind Warner Brothers studios and attack universal, accusing them of providing poorer movies and that they'd skull fuck them if they said that Hell Boy II was better than the Dark Knight. They would be seen as idiots by the general public and constant ridicule would be thrown at them. This is precisely what is happening between Console and PC gamers and the results are exactly the same as the hypothetical situation. How would movies have been considered a serious art form if they had this structure? It would never have happened and the general public would be alienated as a result. While the results may not have been full alienation it is true that it would never have been recognized as an art form, if it cannot even agree amongst its own field.
So in closing gamers and gaming aficionados, put aside your petty differences and embrace your fellow gamers, no matter their preferred choice of play. The results of this will shock you and I believe, that great leaps and bounds will be made within our field and we will see a form of gaming grand enough to rival that of movies, television and music and finally see our field up were it belongs.
