really don't think that argument held much validity to it in the first place. I think steam is awesome, and is really one of the big reasons I play PC games. the chance of your account getting hacked is very slim, just don't click a link a total stranger sends you, and your all set. PC games are generally cheaper (except for MW2, but we won't get into THAT shit..) can be modded, are free to play online and usually have dedicated server support, which from someone who has played online on every console, really is the best way to go. Another bonus is that something becoming a trend, is that older games are getting "no cd" patches, so along with steam it's becoming more and more convenient. That sums up pretty well why I prefer PC to console, but I do still love my 360 and ps3.
The "having to get a new system" argument is just not that true, as just downloading updates for your drivers is often enough to let you play the game, and you really wouldn't need to upgrade your system except every 3-5 years, which is practically the same for consoles.
